If the blowtorch does not come on nicks from AFL media, so called “experts “, they are embarrassing and should hand back their press cards

Id be amazed if he lasts the year

The start of the season had a comparison between JL and Nicks, both under pressure coaches. JL was extended and the media were a mixed bag with some saying it was smart to remove distraction and some suggesting it was a bit early for an extension.

Then a week later Nicks was extended for two years.

Nicks got extended to pats on the back having achieved sfa not even 1 finals appearance in 4 seasons.

JL got pillared at the same time.

Seems like the media got it wrong.
I asked this on the mainboard at the start of the season. Best any one could do was "it's the vibe" or the "trajectory is better".

A big part is apparently nobody that analyses footy for a job could see the issue with having your best player having a career best year at 33 yo. We'd have 100% played finals with Tex in our team last year. Who'd have thought he might slow down?...

I do love being proved right.

I don't even know if it's Nick's fault that much. Their drafting has been abysmal through the rebuild. Hawks have been almost as poor as them with high picks but managed to get stars with latter picks (Newcombe, Day, Moore).

You can't miss as much as they have and go anywhere

C’mon mate, it was clearly a suplex.

Harley’s so sick of The Worst’s incessant stories that he’s making an audition tape for the WWE #conspir#conspiracytheory

She probably is but aside from the valuation, those are exact type of midfielders they don't need

I wasn't thinking that, but it was because of that exact reason. They have the grunt. They need more polish.

Matt Crouch could have 900 possessions a year with no impact on a game.

Agree their drafting is terrible. They are like the reverse Freo (except for the Petty thing but I guess it didn't actually happen).

I’m not sure whether he should be under pressure or not but that Adelaide team is pretty average imo. You could even argue Nicks did very well out of the team that was relying on Tex having one of the best seasons in his career. I think that attacking style looked great last season but without at least some sort of defensive plan it ends up being a shootout and they at least lost as many of those that they won (if not more)

The shootout worked because:
A) all of their best talents are either Dawson or in the forwardline
B) Tex was unreal

I just can't believe a coach is stupid enough to roll out a gameplan that relies on Tex dominating at his age. I get TT got injured but even in their wildest dreams the best you could hope for might be 50 goals from him.

Adelaide spent their draft currency on filling their forward line with talent and neglected their midfield - and are now filling the gaps with those forwards.

Adelaides top 15 picks the last eight years:
2023 - pick #8 - Daniel Curtin (key def/mid)
2022 - pick #5 - traded for Rankine (fwd)
2021 - pick #6 - Rachele (fwd)
2020 - pick #2 - Thilthorpe (key fwd), pick #11 Pedlar (mid/fwd)
2019 - pick #6 - McAsey (key def)
2018 - pick #9 - Jones (mid)
2017 - pick #12 - Fogarty (key fwd)
2016 - pick #15 - Gallucci (mid)

I feel like he may not have had a choice. Look at their defence, even when they do well they still concede a lot of goals. You can have a plan to defend but if your cattle only goes one way it becomes futile. Most of their mids only run forward. It’s been pointed out before that their drafting and recruitment has been poor and I can’t even imagine what they would look like if they didn’t get Dawson via trade
