Carlton relying on too few. Nick Haynes giving away goals, Curnow has brought back too soon, and Acres has reverted to non contract year form, among a few others who are contributing nothing.
Their defence is Weitering and then absolutely nobody

The level of cohesion and connection between the players is crazy good. I noticed that when they are rushing forward there's always a player that hangs a few meters behind the ball carrier in case they get put under pressure. They just know where there teammates are which is a sign of a well drilled team.
I'm not entirely sold yet. They have a good game plan, but are lacking a bit in midfield contest work. Will be interesting to see how they go deeper into the season.

I think GWS and Brisbane have impressed more so far. Hawks look top 6 for sure though.

I think there biggest enemy will be fatigue which will set in later in the season. Their pressure rating is insane but will be extremely hard to maintain for 24 games. Imo Richmond have proven that this game style alone can get you to a GF regardless of how strong your midfield is.

Man, Simpson's move to half-back needs to be expedited. We prioritise speed over skill with Wagner and Walker but I think today's game definitely favours skill, especially in high pressure games. This is why I really wanted Lindsay from last years draft.

Hawks have a lot more, superior kickers of the footy in their team than we do.

Makes it worse when probably 4 of the best 8 kicks on our list were injured in round 1.

Biggest issue for me is off half back and our outside mids and wingers (apart from Young).
All average at best by foot.

Chappy has great disposal, we just don’t use him that way anymore and he can take a bit longer to kick it.

I am really really trying to watch and understand the difference with Hawks and us. None of this is ground breaking stuff
1) Two elite kickers in Sicily and Amon is a massive difference out of the backline
2) There is basically no switching. If they cant go fast or a short 45 degree kick, they go long down the line to a contest and back themselves to win. It really doesnt matter how they do it either, just get it down to the next contest whether that's ground or aerial
3) The pressure and speed and running is just ridiculous. Just a constant swarm
4) I can only assume the positioning is some kind telekentic wizardry because somehow someone is always in the right spot for the quick kick.
5) The ability to contest just feels incredible. They have a crazy knack for being clean and feeding out hands to someone

It feels like such an easier way to play and is basically entirely effort based. They are losing on talent at the moment.
The big difference is that their handball game generally is much faster and most of the time goes forward to a person in a better position. Our handballs go too often backwards or to someone who is already in trouble.

Its what Reidy needs to do, use his frame to push the other ruck in the side and then either grab it or tap it clear but he doesn't seem to use his body.
Whenever our ruckman use their bodies to push we seem to give a free kick away. I don't know whether it's technique or bullshido umpiring.

Great insight but also how he was talking about drafting specific type of mids to suit what you need now.

Former coaches are always the best analysts as they have lived and breathed that part of footy.

Compared to the Jack Riewoldts and that who just hop into cushy media roles with no background on the coaches side.

Its how they present themselves on the TV is the big thing though but going off that Simmo will be a great addition to Fox Footy.
Seriously, "he didn't know how good he was".
Really. And he coached for how long!!!
