According to Daniel Gorringe The guy heading up the Geelong audit was formerly Geelong's chief financial officer for years.

If thats true then I'm not sure that this will lead anywhere to be honest.

What a ****ing joke
Confirmed.

Concerns have been aired about the audit into Geelong’s financial affairs after it was revealed their former chief operating officer is part of the AFL team checking the Cats’ books.

Simon Kelleher was an executive for more than six years at Geelong and after joining the AFL, he has been charged with the responsibility of investigating third-party payments at the club.

The perceived conflict of interest was raised on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle on Tuesday night with Kelleher, the AFL General Manager of Club, Finance, Performance and Growth in the spotlight over the issue.

Cats coach Chris Scott’s leadership consulting role with club sponsor Morris Finance has previously come under scrutiny and speculation over Geelong recruit Bailey Smith’s long-standing sponsorship deal with Cats backer Cotton On has also flared up in recent weeks.

I'm sure he'll make a great AFL CEO one day

Good piece here by Simmo. I must say I was blown away by Bailey Smiths combination of power and explosive running at the weekend. He was just running everywhere - we have no player remotely close to his blend of athleticism and running ability in our midfield. Andy can run but I’d say he gives away a good 8-10kg to Smith.
At one point smith turned around while in possession and literally tossed Sharp (I think it was), who is also a decent runner, out of his way like a ragdoll.

If he was a decent kick he’d be the best player in the comp in that form.
In the last quarter especially you could see heaps of our boys stretching out cramps off the ball while smith was still sprinting around everywhere like a bull just let loose in the paddock.

Its ****ed up Geelong got him for pick 17, and I could not understand even back then why every media w***er thought it was a fair price for a 24 year old ultra professional guy that could easily play for another 12 years at a high level.

Great insight but also how he was talking about drafting specific type of mids to suit what you need now.

Former coaches are always the best analysts as they have lived and breathed that part of footy.

Compared to the Jack Riewoldts and that who just hop into cushy media roles with no background on the coaches side.

Its how they present themselves on the TV is the big thing though but going off that Simmo will be a great addition to Fox Footy.

Can Geelong just be shit for once?

Also don’t understand how Saints & North don’t at least try and outbid Geelong for these type of players. Same thing will happen with Jamarra

They do try to but they are shit and Geelong are good. Not to mention Geelong seems to offer more lifestyle wise and it is easy to see why players choose Geelong.

A previous rule, introduced in 2017, limited top-four clubs to matching only one Academy bid inside the top 20 picks and prevented top-eight clubs from matching no more than two Academy bids inside the top 20 selections

However, that rule was removed by the AFL heading into the 2025 season, which opens the door for Sydney to gain access to the gun Academy trio regardless of its final ladder position if they hold enough picks under the points system.

DEE TIPPED TO STAY

MELBOURNE defender Judd McVee is waiting until returning from injury before getting into his contract talks, but is expected to remain at the Demons.

The rookie success story is another three weeks away from returning from his pre-season hamstring and is expected to pick up contract talks early in the season once he is back playing.

The East Fremantle product is out of contract but is settled at Melbourne and expected to stay at the club, likely on a shorter-term deal such as a two-year extension.

McVee, 21, has become a pivotal member of the Demons' defence, playing 48 games over the past two seasons since making his debut at the start of 2023.

West Coast and Fremantle are heavily in the trade and free agency market this year, with the likes of Chad Warner, Brandon Starcevich, Darcy Cameron and Kysaiah Pickett all weighing WA interest. However, McVee is not considered likely to be in that bracket. – Callum Twomey

Just watch them get 2 or 3 out of Rowell, JUH and Reid and get them cheap in draft capital.

They've moved on from their main grouping for the salary cap rorting for which their ex COO will find no case to answer (Selwood, Hawkins, Cameron/Danger nearing the end). So now it's over to a new bunch.

Surely the AFL come under pressure for this to replace him as the auditor.

AFL will give the impression they are being thorough & completely unreproachable, while sweeping everything under the carpet & giving the AFL community to the 2 thumbs up.
The Eagles & Essendon sagas were their 2 finest pieces of "investigation" yet.
The don't want to make the powerful teams look bad because it will make them look the same.

However if you are Adelaide, you better do your shoelaces up properly or the AFL will drop you on your ass.

heck there’s some shit that was right under the spotlight when we were playing last week that don’t apply here tonight.
It was lost in us playing shit but that first quarter of umpiring was nothing short of disgusting. Two different sets of rules

I really thought Cerra would hurt us. But he hasn’t popped in the way I thought he would. Injuries haven’t helped, but but he just isn’t the player he promised.
