Jeez that is a bit rich. He is doing bloody well at the Crows...

Yep, he's a great second chance story. He needed a consistent run at AFL level in the roles performed by Neale and Lyons in our team. Never going to happen with us, glad it did elsewhere. Full credit to him for latching on to that opportunity and becoming the player he is today.

Sometimes I compare his evolution to Josh Kennedy (Hawks/Swans). Josh was excess to Hawthorn's inside needs but moved to Swans and became a 200+ gamer and captain of the club.

Imagine if they end up with pick 1 or 2. Could be a top 5 draft pick + Daicos.. Always carries that risk trading future firsts unfortunately.
Daicos looking more and more like the outright top kid this year, and it’s not close.

North should genuinely bid pick 1, especially after Adelaide did it last year.

It would be deliciously ironic if the Giants end up with pick 1 this year and bid on Daicos.

Am I seeing things or do the Port cheer squad have a flag with trans colours on it? If so, that is so freaking cool, being trans myself (more to the point, non-binary).

Footy clubs can be so awesome (although they can also be the worst...).

Sydney getting Logan McDonald and Braeden Campbell in the first 5 picks this year looked ridiculous. To think Collingwood could have ended up with pick 1, got Jason Horne there and then match Daicos at Pick 2 would've outdone Sydney by miles. Glad that'll never happen and Pies are not getting a leg up for being sh1t in cap + player management.

If they held on to that pick, they would have had most teams in the bottom 5 or 6 offering their future 2022 first round pick for it.

I remember posting last year during the trade period that I didn't see why Collingwood had to trade it during the last trade period. It felt like they were trading it when the value was at it's least because they still had a decent year last year.

They needed some positive news from high draft picks after the trade period debacle.

I'll probably cop the kitchen sink but I reckon Melbourne's got just about the best list going.

Lots of good players entering their prime years.

And a few young'uns who are going to be good.

A champ in Petracca imo

Didn't they end up trading it during the draft for pick 24 and 30 or something? Which they then used pick 24 to bid on Coleman, before trading it away.
Something like that.

Traded 24 back twice, each time picking up a future second or third round pick, and ended up picking at 30 & 31.

If they'd retained it they could have traded it for a 2022 top 5 pick or in the case of having pick 1 drafted the #1 prospect + Daicos. The icing on the cake of a disastrous trade period

What have we doneeeeeeeeeeeeee. Ben Keays 7 coaches votes for his 3rd representation from 6 games. Go Ben...........

Collingwood appear to have painted themselves into a very unpleasant corner draft-wise. If they want to get the second coming (aka Daicos the younger) and he gets chosen at pick one (please North, do it!), I think they need up around 3000 points which they don’t have without going into deficit. In a list that needs young talent they might have to sell off more assets to get more picks if they burn too much on Daicos. And the assets of any value are ones they need to keep.

I wonder what sorts of deals they will throw at other clubs to strengthen their draft hand. Or what players might become available. There might be a few who would contemplate a move even if they are contracted. But take out the must-keeps, the nearly-retired and the future hopes, there really isn’t a whole lot there. I would imagine getting de Goey out would relieve cap pressure, get some more draft credits and reduce controversy by 30%, but he was supposed to be their next superstar.

And then there is the whole issue of putting so much hope on a single young player as their saviour.

Last year’s disaster of a trade/draft period might have repercussions for the next few.

I might have missed it if there’s been a change to the draft bid matching discount, but there is a 20% discount on the points needed to match a bid, so they only need 2400 points to match Daicos.

Going by the current ladder and the picks they currently hold, they have 1518 points.

They also have an NGA kid, Youseph Dib, who looks like a potential second round prospect.

Pies will bottom out for a few years but will be better in the long run. the current team peaked in 18 and wasn't going to win a flag
It's not all doom and gloom either (unfortunately). They took a stack of midfielders in recent drafts and still have a half dozen very good players in their early to mid twenties whom will be around for the next charge. I don't think they will be out of the eight for more than two or three years tbh. They have a history of success in recent times, maybe not so much ultimate success (love losing grand finals), but success nonetheless. Unlike their arch rivals in Carlton who have been on the rise since about 2009.
