Freo will change their name to Walyalup for this year's Indigenous round, like Melbourne did with Narrm last year. I wonder when we'll see the Meanjin Lions.

Would be all for this!

Was the the tribe around the 'Gabba area or the one around the Springfield area?
Yuggera/Jagera nation covers both areas. Turrbal nation also covers the area around the Gabba, but not Springfield. I don't know how accurate this map is, but I'll post it here anyway.

Meanjin is a Turrbal word meaning "place shaped like a spike", referring to the CBD and Gardens Point.

The difficulties might lie in the fact Brisbane is contested land between the Turrbal and Yuggera people.

I'm not sure how the Yuggera people feel about the use of the word Meanjin more widely (being a Turrbal word), but the division between the two groups has made First Nations representation/honouring in Brisbane significantly more complex than many other places in the country for a while now.

It is definitely not a universally accepted fact but I've read in a couple of places that Meanjin is an accepted word of members by both groups, and that their languages have a lot of commonalities, to the point than some Turrbul people say their language is Yuggera. Of course, other Turrbal people believe the that any Yuggera ancestral claim to the Brisbane area at all is completely false, and that Yuggera use of the word Meanjin is a modern ploy to add weight to that false claim.

FWIW in official documentation, Queensland government agencies recognise both groups as traditional owners of tjhe area, as well as the name Meanjin.

If we asked the official representatives of both tribes a) if they would be happy for us to identify as an aboriginal denominated team for the round and b) what word they collectively would like us to use ... do we know how they would feel and/or what they would prefer us to use?

I think part of the difficulty might be that there isn't a uniform view across both peoples on any of this stuff - so you might find some Turrbal people who are completely in favour of it, while others would be vehemently against it. Both perspectives would have entirely valid reasons too.

I suppose the question would ultimately be, as it has been for many others who have sought to understand and respect the history of this land, which response would bring about the most good in the eyes of the traditional owners.

Don't know if it's just a preseason thing, but Keays played the whole first half as a pressure forward for Adelaide. Maybe Adelaide are just giving their kids a run during the preseason. Still a very undersized midfield, with Rachelle tearing West Coast apart at times. Certainly been much more influential than Rankine.

Keays getting pushed out again.

Has a great attitude and work ethic but average skills will always let him down. Something that was perhaps less evident in a weak Crows side.

It was evident. This was always likely to happen.

Crows lack size in the midfield, but they have a lot of skillful players and have been hunting in packs, and running in waves, with their small defenders and forwards putting in a lot of work up and down the ground, supporting their midfield.

But they are playing a very poor West Coast, who don't have a competitive ruck and who's older players are looking past it.

I'll be honest I don't pay a lot of attention to the Bulldogs but watching the bullies v roos at the mo...
Have they always had that god awful white collar? The colour doesn't bother me as much as the width and shape. The neck hole is cut circular but the white goes in a V and seems really wide across the entire Guernsey.
It's just hideous.

I am more concerned about how do we stop Sam Darcy?

Dees looking fantastic. Tiggers looking very lack luster. Just don't seem to have the spark. Surely it will come in during the actual season.

How do we stop the Bulldogs period. I mean if you listen to the commentators they are world class
Beveridge may be trying to slip one past the comp again with his land of talls and a game plan around dominating the air.

JUH, Darcy, Naughton, Lobb as forwards and Jones, Keath, Bruce in defense. Thats a solid tall roster to call upon.

Will all fall apart without the x-factor of Josh Schache.

Massive change from their previous overload (and over possession) in the midfield. It could work but more likely you go that tall and once the ball is on the ground teams will run all over them
