They aren't relevant enough to foster hatred ... atm they are kind of like the team that everyone has second or feels for because they are no threat and they have been down for awhile - in the case of the suns they were denied early sympathy because of their start up concessions which kind of made everyone feel like they had stolen players that should have been theirs (what our own history would have been like without GCS or GWS coming in we will never know).

For us a lot of their early growth was from folks that had been ours which was un-awesome especially since we were suffering (club and fans) anyway without their 'help' but at the same time many of us were aware that a stronger Aussie Rules base in Qld was ultimately going to be a better thing and so were kind of giving them a vague lukewarm support (eg not actually supporting but happy for them when they didn't lose another player back south and happily not being invested enough that their latest failure to deliver didn't damage too many of our television sets or remotes).

Could their be a legitimate rivalry in the future? Certainly the fixture would like to think so and if we were both contending for finals and more it would become more intense. The second time we meet in a GF would certainly have some agro in it (the first one having kicked Bulldogs '16 out of BigFooty conciousness as the poster child for a rorted GF result) and from there it might just keep going orgainically.

An AFL team representing the GC is more deserving, credible and palatable than one in western Sydney, but only just. 🚮

Come now, Mr Ripper.... It only took the A-League to wait 20 years to screw it over over a tradition and cause riots.....

The AFL did it in record time! :D

That would have been brutal especially for the younger players.
No mention of it but i hope they gave the poor buggers a lift back to the accommodation base.

Reading it was like running along with them, seemed like very oppressive conditions.

Think GCS will finally have their breakout year.

Will be on the scrapheap in a few years.
I sincerely hope not. The young man is a serious talent. Management of new draftees's like Ginivan needs to be reviewed in my opinion. Thrown in to a club like Collingwood (or any afl club for that matter) as a teenager and dealing with the attention he has received since going there, should demand councilling/assistance in how to deal with it. I know some will say he deserves what he cops because of his behaviour but, if he had someone to educate him on how to behave on & off the field, i believe he would be a much better person and role model for younger kids who hold him up as a hero.

...and you know this has not been provided to him by Collingwood/AFL?

Nowhere near enough for these kids. They need more when they first come into the system.
If you are able, have a read of Buckleys article on SEN earlier this morning. I dont agree with much that spews from his pie hole but I agree 100% with this.

WTF, access to welfare departments, Digital Literacy departments, Psychologists, medical practitioners, financial managers, AOD educators et al not enough?
Yeah I can see now with all these wrap around services around him when did Ginivan have time to take responsibility for his own decisions. FMD.

Disagree, playing for Collingwood (or many other club) and living that life he does isn't normal. I believe new draftee's are too young. The age of kids coming into the system should be a minimum of 20 years old. Teenagers are not ready for this kind of life.

Are you "in the know" of what assistance these young men get or are you just relying 100% on what's reported? How would you manage the same situation should your son or daughter have to deal with the same pressures? It's not black & white like you assume it is.

I am old and grumpy but my view is that any athlete or sportsman who wants to be considered a professional should eschew all drugs including alcohol for the duration of their careers. If this was the expectation, then there would be little need for support or education.

IIRC having too much interference into young players lives is what got Fagan and Clarkson into so much trouble, damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

excluding drugs (including alcohol) wont fix all the problems these young men face. It may fix some but definitely not all.

Really? So Fagan & Clarkson should not give a s**t about their players welfare so things will get better for everyone??? C'Mon MM....The right thing to do is offer assistance. The question is: What sort of assistance will help & what sort of assistance wont.

Jarrod Cameron returning to play for Swan Districts in the WAFL this season.

I think you may have misunderstood the tone of my post ML, I was attempting to be sarcastic, sometimes hard to convey in written form.... I should have included a rolling eyes emoji after the word interference in my post.

I really hope the Tassie bid is not approved by the Federal government funding wise.
The AFL must have lots of spare money to throw around with this latest addition to prop up the game in Tasmania.
Apart from other uses for the money mentioned, i thought they had a massive debt to repay after the covid years.

Unless the AFL have a long-term plan to force relocate an existing Melbourne based team this will be a huge mistake.
Even if a forced relocation is their plan, getting it done will be near impossible.

Why not prop up the Brisbane Lions an already established market during The Gabba rebuild with funds to increase BHA to 20K.
It will take a long time to rebuild the Lions if we have a big drop off in form along with no home ground for 4 seasons.
It is not like the AFL is putting anything towards The Gabba rebuild.
....................................
The AFL would fund some of the prospective Macquarie Point-based stadium – which has emerged as the major sticking point in the state’s bid for an AFL team – while $90 million would be put towards game development/community football and $30 million to talent development.
