I'd rather play the Giants than the Saints, in the event that we lose tonight.

Why? They're clearly the better team of the two, not to mention Cogs will be back in next week.

Disgracefully bias umpiring towards the Saints. I can’t believe in this day an age the constant bias Victorian teams get from the umps playing interstate teams and worst yet that it can’t be talked about or the umps can’t be criticised.

Carn the Giants.

Laughable that King wasn’t paid free against for blatantly dropping the ball yet moments earlier Kelly was tackled the moment he got the ball and it was.

Footy really is becoming more and more like WWE with how staged it is and where certain players are afforded preferential treatment.

Quite a concern around Membrey’s welfare after his late withdrawal from yesterday’s game. Mental health issues certainly don’t discriminate regardless of age, income, physical health or any other dimension. I would imagine that it didn’t help the headspace of his teammates on game day either.

Good that GWS didn’t hesitate to agree to the late change from outside the listed emergencies.

Sounds like Brayshaw is quite unwell. The medical report is going to be bad for Maynard if it gets that far.
The fear in his eyes when he saw what was going to happen and couldn’t avoid it .
Feel for him .

He recently has had his second child also. Horrible news to hear. Hope he is okay and get the help he needs

I don't believe there is anything in the MRO guidelines that says anything about "a football act"

That's something the media run with and so will the lawyers.
The lawyer needs to state a case so will go with whatever they can argue.

Yeah it's interesting isn't it. I mean you'd argue Sicily's tackle on McCluggage was a football act. Sure it was a tackle intended to hurt, but not much more than a decade ago that was still how we were all trained to tackle... to inflict pain where possible!

I first heard the phrase "a football act" in NFL circles, where the phrase is actually part of the rules I believe, to help officials determine whether a pass has been completed. Their rules surrounding that are a bit stricter than our marking rules. There you must have full control of the ball and then be in the progress of another "football act", where that might include things like turning downfield to gain territory, sidestepping a tackle, trying to fend off an opponent, clutching the ball into your body, etc.

Lol mark Robinson just argued on 360 that as soon as Maynard left the ground he ‘passed’ the duty of care off to Brayshaw.

Excuse Me Wow GIF by Mashable

Thanks for reminding me not to watch.

Amazed at how much the former players are defending the Maynard bump.

The smother was fine. Hell, I'd even accept the brace. But the turn and brace? No different to a dangerous tackle. Two weeks.

Yeah I've changed my mind on this one.

On first viewing I thought there wasn't much Maynard could do about it.

But reflecting on a few viewings there's no doubt he always intended to shirtfront Brayshaw and there was no inkling of trying to reduce the damage , he actually accelerated into it. Into a defenceless player.

Obviously he never intended for it to work out the way it did but he should get 3 weeks. With the conga line of lawyers lined up and considering it's Collingwood my feeling is they'll clear him to play in the GF.

These are the cases where when the concussion court cases come roaring through will point and say, sure it wasn't intentional, but the afl created an environment of allowing these acts by not stamping down on this. Acts like this in my opinion, where individuals remove from themselves the duty of care to look after other players in the guise of intentional 'football acts' are not a defense. It may be be a 'football act', but its also an action that (maybe) ended with some serious injuries. I think I'm still caught up on Cripps getting off... gah!

Maybe I'm naive, but the immediate and overwhelmingly defensive group think by the boys club in the media defending the act rubs me the wrong way.

When looking at it from behind, it looks as though his head never deviated from looking straight at Brayshaw.
It doesn’t look like he looked at the ball.
I haven’t seen a view from another angle.

Yeah , he targeted the man.

The talking heads have gone beserk tonight to defend Maynard. They know popularity is writ large in siding with Collingwood.

Maynard didn't have to turn & brace. Could have put his arms and hands out to push Brayshaw in the chest. It's not like Brayshaw was coming a rate of knots, he was decelerating after kicking the ball.

Maybe careless / accidental, maybe crafty & intentional. But should be weeks. Had other options.

Brayshaw won't play again this year.
