Weren't the Dogs the only team in that top right-hand corner of some chart.
The one that the last so many previous premiers were sitting at the end of the H & A season.
Lions, Dogs, and Hawks were the teams in the Premiership window. With Sydney just outside it.

It's just a chart of most points for vs least points against... yeah, the premiers will usually be in the top 6 points for, and the bottom 6 points against... but the bulldogs being in there never meant much. You look through their results - they aren't impressive. Big wins over weak teams, and not the hardest draw...

Hawks are almost everyone's 2nd favorite team this year but everyone's going to hate them from next year onwards for a decade. They look like having another dynasty in the next few years.

So if we and Hawthorn make it, taking away the fact they’ll destroy us on the MCG, they will have done it the hard way.

Melbourne - Adelaide - Sydney - Melbourne

We’ll go:

Brisbane - Sydney - Melbourne - Melbourne

I wouldn't bet on it.

It's too obvious.

Kenny will hatch a plan.

He’d need to hire a marksman in the stands to shoot at the knees of hawks players

Not mine

Hawks getting good again just in time for another expansion team to come in and ruin the draft/trading landscape? GROSS

Our last 5 games v Port:

Round 15 this year - we won clearances by 15, contested ball by 40
Qualifying final - lost clearances by 4, contested ball by 4
Round 1 last year - lost clearances by 9, contested ball by 34
Round 1 2022 - lost clearances by 1, we won contested ball by 1.
Round 7 2021 - we won clearances by 3, contested ball by 19.

If they don't smash you in the middle and you have some semblance of quality, then you have an advantage. Recruiting BZT and big Sav to fix the defence didn't work, Georgiades and Rioli are solid-good forwards but the rest are awful. We've lost once to them in 8 games and that was perhaps our worst midfield performance since we started playing finals.

The Shinboner had a great section in their finals dossier on Port Adelaide covering how their defence can be exposed using our round 15 game against them:https://theshinboner.com/2024/08/28...ton-farrell-hinkley-horne-francis-drew-wines/

Thanks for sharing. This bit caught my eye:
The way Port Adelaide defend would be a great way to stop … Port Adelaide (and Sydney!). It’s almost as if their defence is set up to stop teams (…and Sydney) playing the way they do.

This feels like the sort of outcome you get when you spend entire preseasons literally playing against yourselves. It creates what in science terms is a closed system, one in which entropy (chaos) increases over time and becomes increasingly divorced from the broader reality.

It would be interesting to learn/understand how various teams deal with this conundrum. I guess the simple go-to is to spend summer trying to figure out how to beat the reigning premier 🤷
