I have been around and worked at venues that have hosted Mad Mondays in the past. In my experience its handled pretty well. Rooms well cut off from any potential public (including plastic sheets on any potential window). Staff were always very specifically chosen (usually managers or owners with a heap of experience and almost always male) for both their capability but also discretion

Generally its messy as they are young fit athletes but who havent been able to drink for months. They get super drunk and throw up a lot but also just keep going and going all night. They get up to some pretty outrageous stuff but also keep it very in house. From what I've heard they have always been amazing with the venue staff.

I know things have happened in the past (ahem St Kilda) and some pretty bad incidents have happened after players have gone off on their own after the "official" event.

In the end it means either someone really screwed up hosting the event with the wrong people (ie its possibly overblown) or something really really bad happened.
At the moment we don't know what actually happened. So before we rush to judge anyone we should at least wait for that to come out, if it ever does.

The Dan Houston trade deal just seems really odd to me. If I was an AFL player with the same agent as Houston, I'd have some concern that I was being used as a negotiation tool for other players trades, which brings into question if the agent unilaterally has my best interests at heart. E.g. perhaps as a result of some trade 0% related to me, I don't have the agent acting in my best interests because my agent has been put offside by the club I want to re-sign with or get to.

Tbh it's pretty rare to see a player agent interviewed and not think they are just slimy used car salesmen looking out for a way to maximise their commissions.

To Richmond's credit, good to get this spate of draft picks and even converting a couple into next year's draft and truly loading up before the Devils enter the comp.

Hmm, how's that working out for the expansion clubs? Lots of trading out, predicting the list is next year's success story.

But 13/14 years on they haven't got a premiership.

Note - a month ago I world have said gws are doing great, but now .... it's premiership or you mean nothing.

Pretty sure if you add up the points value of all of those picks.
Richmond would be nowhere near the other 2.

Your point was raised on Trade Radio yesterday that the power of the Player Agents has gotten out of hand and needs to be addressed by the AFL particularly in relation to leveraging a deal for one of their players with another.

Apparently, something like 90% of all players are managed by 3-4 Management companies FWIW so its certainly not uncommon.

I'd say maybe it's time for players to act less like weird knobs, even if it's only with other players but maybe that's just the 5G in my blood talking.

Toby Greene deserves retrospective punishment for a litany of onfield and off field incidents so good riddance I say.

I agree we can wait for details but to be honest if they AFL is bothering to suspend/punish when there is no footage etc it probably isn’t great!

One young player in particular, who is said to have made an ill-informed joke about P. Diddy, is set for the harshest suspension
You know, boys being boys stuff.

Not to mention the two expansion teams were still getting belted regularly early doors. I don't think it will be a fun few years coming up for the Tigers, that's a big clean out.

Still, better to get in before the Tassie concessions kick in.

The AFL cares about its image, or perceived image so will need to be seen doing something regardless of what actually took place. I'm sure there is some validity to the claims, but I kind of doubt they have done anything worse than any other teams.

Yet its ok players using illegal drugs, doing all sorts of kinky / group stuff with the fairer sex and no issue from anyone at AFL House.

Have no doubt if this was one of the big VIC clubs there''d be not a thing to see.

Seems about right.

If it’s consensual then that is no one’s business. If they had performed the skit in someone’s home then there is no complaint.

I agree that some players get away with stuff. De Goey, Toby good examples of it.

I've been in a long term private chat and a poster from the west who is usually pretty good with his info said that the issue was mostly inappropriate jokes.. also one of the players dressed up as Raygun.

Surely no one would get suspended for inappropriate jokes.... has to be more to it.

A certain former lions/pies player also got away with murder in retrospect.

But the way this gets reported means it becomes Kulcha war for clicks (see Mitch Cleary throwing in that Toby Greene came dressed as Raygun for no reason other than to promote outrage).

Funny to see a bunch of old players getting in on the act. Some of them could reflect on their behaviour too.

Really it all comes down to they committed the greatest crime of all in it somehow leaked. The message is and always been loud and clear: it doesnt matter what you do as long as it doesnt get out in the public

Putting aside my own thoughts about how entertaining Diddy jokes are or aren’t, if you take substantial salaries to participate in an entertainment business then you can’t really be indignant that your employer goes in hard protecting the brand. This isn’t a criminal prosecution and it’s hardly the death of private expression.

I think it’s a good outcome for the Tigers. Rip the bandaid off and go for it, get in the young guns.
It then comes down to the coaching staff to hold a young group together and sell them improvement.
Not every club is lucky enough to have a Chris Fagan at the top… but this is the model to follow!

OMG the snowflake police are out in full force.

As for Raygun, she was an international embarrassment and deserves to cop whatever. Even her selection as Australia's representative requires investigation b/c there is just no way she was anywhere close to being selection worthy other than her clealry knowing the right people and being influential in that space.

Honestly, this world .......

So Toby being fined is absurd and what an EASY target he is for the AFL .

Unrelated to all of that, a topic I should just steer clear b/c it makes my blood boil but listening to Trade Radio talk about Houston wanting out, what gets me is that it was alright for a player to sign a long term contract but then they want their cake and choose when they want out b/c they want to live in a different state.

I'm of the view that Port should have just held firm; it was ok for Houston to sign 5 years and if a club he wants to go to won't pony up what suits Port, Port should've just said bad luck Dan, you signed the contract and the club you want to go won't pay your worth. Dan couldn't have really argued and we saw with Ryan O'Keefe and Tom Papely that the player will perform when the trade doesn't go through.

If toby greenes only issue is simply dressing up as ray gun then I’m not sure why that’s an issue. Must be something else to it
