I also think Leigh's book is great. In fact I seriously believe it should be compulsory reading for all players and employees of the Club - there is a lot everyone can get from it in terms of making our Club successful again.

Of course it is good for fans as well. Although be warned only about 1/3 of it is about his time at the Lions. The other parts are taken up with his playing days at Hawthorn and his coaching stint at Collingwood.

Still there are lessons to learn throughout and of course great insights as to how things really transpired.

Browny's is more of an eye-opener in terms of his injuries. Decent read but left me disturbed at how close he came to dying, let alone crippling himself. Some funny stories about him & the boys in there too though.

I found Lethal's more interesting overall but he had so many more years, roles and incidents to write about. Not a knock on Browny at all.

Did I hear that the Players Association knew about the Carlisle footage and advised Carlisle's manager to not tell the Saints. More and more I dislike and distrust the PA. I know its their job to look after the players but I really feel these days they are against the sport as a whole

Spot on - I would have thought that any trade had a duty of disclosure - the Saints have been shafted - the AFL silent (surprise, surprise) Saints should have the option of rescinding the deal - Carlisle can go into the ND or PSD - afl compensates - McConville banned

It's a buyer beware scenario though. When there is a system of the new club not knowing if the player is on strikes, I can't see how they could see a duty of disclosure.

Eddie had a massive slam at the AFLPA....he was spot on too. Really stuck up for the Saints.

Article on HUN website.

....god I hate it when Mr Ed is right.
I was actually surprised that there hasnt been more outrage over it. I guess I better thank Eddie for doing the right thing for once

The AFLPA represents the players, not the clubs. They have to comply with laws, rules and regulations but beyond that they would be acting against one their members if they hijacked his trade or career, especially on the basis of a Current Affair story. Carlisle hasn't been charged with anything and he hasn't even recorded a strike under the drugs policy as far as we know.

Have you read or heard what Eddie said? Made some very good points on that very aspect of the AFLPA.

Yes I read his comments. I don't agree with them at all. He was critical of the AFLPA. I'm not.

I remember a while back someone posted a list of the number of first round draft picks on each teams list, someone might have that handy actually? Anyway I don't know why it randomly occurred to me but the Tigers have a hell of a lot of top 20 draft picks on their list. I looked back to 2004 and they have recruited the following players in the top 20 since (I have only identified those still on their list):

2004: Brett Deledio Pick 1.
2006: Jack Riewoldt Pick 13.
2007: Trent Cotchin Pick 2.
2007: Alex Rance Pick 18.
2008: Tyrone Vickery Pick 8.
2009: Dustin Martin Pick 3.
2009: Ben Griffiths Pick 19.
2010: Reece Conca Pick 6.
2011: Brandon Ellis Pick 15.
2012: Nick Vlastuin Pick 9.
2013: Ben Lennon Pick 13.
2014: Corey Ellis Pick 12.

On top of this they have recruited the following players who were selected in the top 20: Troy Chaplain, Shaun Grigg and Chris Yarran. They could have drafted/recruited even more players in the top 20 as well as I may have missed some. Anyway for those that I have identified that is 15 players on their list selected in the top 20.

That number will increase to 16 after this years draft as well. That is crazy when you compare to us only having two players on our list selected in the top 20, Rich and Mayes. That will most likely increase to five after this years draft.

I guess a question I have is have the Tigers underachieved considering how many players they have on their list selected in the top 20? I know drafting isn't an exact science and you aren't guaranteed to draft gun players with early picks but with so many you should be able to land a fair few guns. I know most people have already said the Tigers have underachieved due to being knocked out in finals in the first week three years in a row but have they underachieved even further by failing to make top 4 the past couple of years? With so many players on their list selected in the top 20 they should have achieved way more imo.

I can only think of five players out of the 15 currently on their list who could have arguments made in their favour in regards to being A graders and they are Cotchin, Deledio, Riewoldt, Rance and Martin with Brandon Ellis potentially thrown in with that group as well depending on who you ask. If they had of landed another 3-4 players who could player at a similar level as those 5 they would probably have played in a grand final by now imo.

I don't want to agree but I have to. Buyer beware. I thought the Dogs pulled out of chasing him because they also knew. well one of the presidents said they pulled out because they had heard about it and that there was footage of other players getting around for sale as well but no other media outlets had picked it up yet. In any business you have to do your due diligence on any new purchase but it seems a dog act to hide it when it was so relevant to the contract. If all goes wrong for the Bombers in the WADA case they will loose him anyway I guess.

Its a good theory about top 20 draft picks. I also like the one about 14 players with 100 or more games between the ages of 22 and 28 years old. Brisbane's glory days were Lappin (pick 2) Power (pick 6) Black (pick 31) Voss and Ackermans (Zone Picks) and Brown (father son pick) so its a bit hard to exactly know if they all were top 20. I think is more about the right combination of players all play well as a group consistently over a long period of time. Great sides to me just seem to know where each other are. Hawthorne this year so often just seem to pick the ball up and boot it out of the pack to just clear it but time after time it lands in a team mates arms. It happen way too often to be a fluke after fluke so my theory is that great sides are just intuitive about where each other are.
