This has a long way to go before this is decided.

What we have is:

Whitlock & an unknown v an unknown.

We can fill this in - in 12 months - then in another 5-7 years pick a winner or possible a tie.
horrendous logic. that's like saying Pick 25 is equal to Pick 2 because both are unknown...

yes, the players are unknown but the Pick numbers are known. And on current lists and form, it's a horrendous trade for North.

Doesnt the new rules require them to match with picks in a similar round ?
or is it still just points
He's trying to troll Essendon. The nuance he's using to justify North's terrible trade doesn't apply to Essendon trading pick 9 to the Dees.

It's all rather hilarious.

Equally impressed, anxious and dumbstruck that North are so committed to backing themselves in next year. Can’t argue that Clarko lacks chutzpah.

So many emotions. None of which will be resolved until next years season will be over. (Perhaps even later, given its unlikely Whitlock is gonna get much senior game time next year.)

Its terrible if you want to spend 2 more years at the bottom of the ladder. Its clever if you want to rise up the ladder sooner rather than later.

If North were offering teams from pick 8 their F1.....Why didnt they trade the F1 for an established player in the trade period?
Surely there would have been a taker.
We offered it for Houston but we know how that ended.

Really what we needed was a KPF, but there simply weren’t any available that warranted a F1.

Before the draft I heard there was an offer of a trade of pick 2 and future 1st for Richmond's pick 10 and 11 (end up being 12 and 14 I think).

Which would have been the better trade for North? The one before the draft or the pick 27 and F2 for Norths F1?

Though it is probably worth noting that Tauru was reportedly Norths target and he was gone before pick 12 and 14).

It'll be an intriguing first round to see North's first rounder pushed back 6 spots due to academy bids but Richmond's 2nd rounder doesnt move.

dont know why people still pushing this angle. other clubs do not have access to father sons or academy picks, those players are essentially not part of the draft. regardless where pick 2 get push back to, it is still the second club in line to pick a player from the available draft.

the only picks that can affect that are the FA compo picks.

I still can't get my head around this.

With three tall forwards still there (Whitlock x 2 and Shanahan), why not wait until tonight, make a genuine offer of a F2 and an F3 for the first pick tonight. We still land one of those players.

We have overpaid enormously.
You don't know that we aren't going to use of our F2s tonight though.

what can't you get your head around? They rated Matt Whitlock very highly i.e. higher than the others you mentioned.

I does look like an overpay for Whitlock but it does remind me of when my club apparently overpaid for Weddle.

That trade was like 3x2nd rounds not a F1st slide. So a little different but I'm getting a similar uproar where people are going what the heck.

Clubs pay recruiters for this type of stuff, not the obvious shit. So now we will see the cards are on the table.

Yeah but they have rated him to a point that has significantly hurt our hand next year.

I like the aggressive nature of it, but the trade needed to be a F2 + F3 for 27.
I agree with that. I'm just saying, you can't say why take Whitlock when there was players B and C available because they clearly rated Whitlock higher.

It seems like they have no concept of where they are as a club or they rate Whitlock as a top 10 sort of player.

We still have two list spots free.

I'm not discounting the possibility that we have plans for our F2 this draft.

If the trade turns out to be the equivalent of F1 and flotsam for both Whitlocks, for example, the move to get Matt W is cast under a very different light.

Its a wait and see.

Tigers probably say no and someone else jumps and and gets him. It's bold from north absolutely but risk and reward, it seems like the clubs going all in on the next few years with clarko. Imo that's the right approach. Can't rebuild forever.

Most bookies have North finishing either 2nd or 3rd last in 2025, sounds about right I reckon.

Seems to me a horrendous trade for North and well in our favour.

They must really rate Whitlock - time will I suppose.
North rated Whitlock 15 in the draft and second best KPF. So in their minds we traded a F1 for pick 15.

Whether that ends up a good or bad deal I don’t know but I do know clubs only consider their own ratings of the draft not the actual pick number.
