horrendous logic. that's like saying Pick 25 is equal to Pick 2 because both are unknown...

yes, the players are unknown but the Pick numbers are known. And on current lists and form, it's a horrendous trade for North.
I think mitigated by LDU. If they win 9 games, pick is perhaps 7 or so. If they win 4, he leaves and they get pick 3 or lower as free agency compo.

I still can't get my head around this.

With three tall forwards still there (Whitlock x 2 and Shanahan), why not wait until tonight, make a genuine offer of a F2 and an F3 for the first pick tonight. We still land one of those players.

We have overpaid enormously.
Yes you've overpaid, but an F2 and an F3 may not even be enough for to get the first pick tonight. Geelong or someone might be willing to trade a future first.

Not sure we need to get the first pick tonight if we want the other Whitlock or Shanahan?

To quote myself from the NM draft thread...

Pick 28 - Richmond - They've already picked Faull and Armstrong
Pick 29 - WB - They're absolutely stacked for KPFs
Pick 30 - WC - Could select [J Whitlock] here, but they've just drafted Barnett and Archer Reid... and they've got Allen, Waterman, and Williams x2. Even if they went a tall, maybe Shanahan would be the favourite?
Pick 31 - WB - Still absolutely stacked for KPFs
Pick 32 - Saints - If they're going for needs, surely this is a mid

So if MW was a top 10 player on our draft board what does it matter we get him at 27?

Calling a pick horrendous before it has all played out is chicken little stuff.

The sky isn’t falling.

North rated Whitlock 15 in the draft and second best KPF. So in their minds we traded a F1 for pick 15.

Whether that ends up a good or bad deal I don’t know but I do know clubs only consider their own ratings of the draft not the actual pick number.
Bahahaha… oh sweet then because I rated Murphy Reid the 3rd best player in the draft so I guess that means freo got the third best talent for p17!!!

Now off to find that “who won the 2024 draft thread” so I can I let everyone know!

The trade itself is awful. But what makes it worse is we started with a similar pick and traded it for Caleb Daniel. We basically spent our F1 on Daniel and an F2.

Maybe you do and maybe you don't, but that's the comment I was responding to. And just because Richmond won't draft another KPF now, it doesn't mean another club won't be making an offer to them to get ahead of the rest.

I rarely agree with anything that poster says, but they were calling the trade and the logic horrendous, not the pick. And I have to agree North have played this poorly, because if they'd just said "thanks but no thanks" to the Bulldogs' demands for Daniel, they'd have been able to keep their future first and still draft a good KPP prospect. Darling was a good move because the opportunity cost was relatively low, not so for Daniel.

Well said by an honorary tiger. Did you enjoy the night? 😁
Definitely, though mostly afterwards, as I was having to steal glances at the draft on my phone in the middle of pub trivia.

Richmond have played this offseason masterfully. By not taking the earlier trade with North for 2 and their F1 for 10 and 11, they got the KPF they wanted most and a midfield with massive upside, and still managed to get North's F1 anyway. You have to applaud that from any club (except maybe Collingwood. Screw Collingwood).

The bloke hasn't played a game, he could be anything, if he is a great swingman he's worth every cent. They still shouldn't have traded 25 for Daniel but in isolation this trade have no issues with. Great to see they are finally backing themselves rather than having a safety net of a high first rounder next year. Good on North.

We still have two list spots free.

I'm not discounting the possibility that we have plans for our F2 this draft.

If the trade turns out to be the equivalent of F1 and flotsam for both Whitlocks, for example, the move to get Matt W is cast under a very different light.

Its a wait and see.
So you're trading yours or Richmond's F2 for a early 2nd rounder this year after showing every team how you can be absolutely fleeced?

Thats fine if those teams you listed hold their picks, but there will surely be other teams that want those players, so they will be looking to trade up to those spots. I think we will almost certainly trade 28, and it will be to a team that want a tall.

Melbourne won 11 games this season and finished 14th. Surely North aint getting beyond 11 wins, that would be the ceiling. The floor would be a bad run with injuries and winning similar to this year.

That is actually how the big board for each team works.

If mock draft rankings actually mattered, then North lost big time!

Cats are surely coming for it, whether you'd accept a f1 from them who on earth knows but surely on face value Geelong who need to replace Hawkins, etc and need a tall forward come hard for the pick. There might be others like the Pies but surely you gamble on the Cats before the Pies?

Would hope Essendon put up theirs or Melbourne's which they own.

If Essendon put up theirs they are more 'silly' than I think. They can't seriously think they are finishing better than 3rd last? That's at best too
