No, posting in support of the thread legitimises it, calling out a poorly veiled troll thread doesn't.

It shows how much it’s touched a nerve that you feel like you need defend it. Sorry pal, that’s the definition of legitimising it.

If you looked it up in a dictionary there would be a picture of you typing out your defence on this thread doing it. Legit.

You are not all there are you?

This topic of legitimacy is really important to you considering how melty you are about not knowing what it means.

Thought I would respond to a few of these, because I'm not sure I agree with.....well, most of them

Poor list
- this isn't really news to anyone- we were the oldest list in 2015 and in 2 years, we are the 2nd youngest. You don't have that kind of change without losing quality older players and regenerating with not-yet-proven younger players. But it is the long-term strategy for regeneration of a list. If you have a better strategy, please enlighten us.

Confused list management strategy (aggressive re-set)
- this isn't really true either. the club has been fairly certain in what they have done and been pretty transparent with its member base. They delisted a whole bunch of older players (much to the chagrin of North supporters - and strangely, other team's supporters - last year), and are offering other players like Waite and Scott Thompson only short-term deals.

Confused football strategy
-
see above

Missed out on Kelly and Dusty despite throwing buckets of cash at them
- Is it really missing out on them if they decided to stay at their club? Because other clubs threw cash at them too- so it wasn't just North that missed out.
A couple more things on this:
  • You could actually argue that it was better we didn't get them at this point in time, because they are not going to propel us into the finals on their own so it would be better to get them as cream on the top of a solid list- rather than them shouldering the load playing with 1st-year and 2nd-year players.
  • At North we are damned if we do, damned if we don't. If we didn't go for them, opponents like yourself would have said we have no ambition and we are OK with mediocrity. If we do, we are ridiculed for missing out. Is the lesson here 'don't try, lest you may fail?'

Membership 10% drop off from previous year and attendances are down
-
happens to most (if not all) clubs when form is down

Reappointment of Brad Scott for another two years (interesting he signed before he knew about Dusty)
-
Brad Scott has done a pretty good job (and trust me as North fans we know his weaknesses better than most) and he has shown that he has the capability to take an average list to 2 prelim finals. He recognized the need for regeneration and this year blooded lots of new players. He deserved a chance to continue with the list development. With regards to the timing of the Dusty decision, decisions on coaches are made months in advance so I think this is just a coincidence- but I guess I know as much as anyone so you can draw your own conclusions.

Having to sell games interstate
-
It really depends if you think we are selling home games because we 'need to' or because we want to grow our fan base. Does Hawthorn receive the same criticism for this? Melbourne for selling games to NT? Bulldogs to Ballarat?
Fans get replacement games so it doesn't really affect fans in Melbourne anyway.

Former captain goes on sen and says the list is poor shape
-
I just had a listen to see what Swallow actually said because often these things get taken out of context.
  • Complained about being played as a small forward, to give younger players more midfield experience
  • Complained about getting dropped in favour of younger players
  • He actually never said the list was in 'poor shape', he said we may struggle for a few years (which is the case with any time with a young list- doesnt mean it is in a poor shape)
Firstly keep in mind that it is obvious that he is not super happy with how he left the club, felt he had more to give (which is not uncommon). With regards to him being dropped, keep in mind that his form wasn't great- and that no other club picked him up (even Gold Coast who has his brother on the list)- so maybe he is just past his best also.

Every club and every list has weaknesses but does North's weaknesses mean we are in 'disarray'? I would say no.

A few? That’s one. If you look in totality there’s a few challenges there. Attendances and membership for one. If the club performs poorly like most expect it will then another 10% decline in membership could be on the cards. It’s why I think north made the dusty and Kelly plays.

Standard response from you. I’m not melty at all. Don’t have anything worthy of melting about. However if you don’t like the subject of this thread or you don’t think it’s a legitimate discussion why are you reading and posting so much here? I think you do care and you are really concerned about what others think of your club. It’s cute.

I responded to literally all of your points but OK. Your point about dropoff in memberships and attendances is a fair one (and will probably happen) but remember the inverse happens when the team is doing well. Look how many Tiger fans came out of the woodwork this year. Obviously, not as many North fans as Tigers fans but you get the idea.

I wouldn’t be comparing memberships with us. We turn up even when we’re shit.

What a stupid thing to say, we've had over 70 thousand members for the last three years in a row, and we had a shit season and missed the finals last year.
Out of the woodwork, that's funny.
