Btw we should definitely be putting up stuff (not unlike what we do at Marvel Stadium) on that big blue warehouse to cover up the Crap Football Club logo, and dare anybody to try to stop us.
That is one of many reasons why Princes Park is not a suitable default stadium for Melbourne teams in AFLW. The signage all around the back of the legends stand that only supports Carlton finances is another.

It’s not about that, though, it’s the (mainly media) issue of them celebrating the men’s program being there like that proves something about the value of the women’s program, or shows what great guys they are (like congratulating a dad for doing what mums do without being noticed).

To be honest - and even as a staunch feminist - I feel like it’s less of an issue now that it was when Emma’s aunt got feisty about it. Partly that’s the firmer foundations of the competition, and partly it’s that more clubs are genuinely breaking down barriers between the programs and the players and coaches work together and support each other when the cameras are not rolling.

Its also a function of the game and those coming through the pathways having evolved.

Sheez and Wardlaw are genuinely into it because W has been around since they were little kids. Its just part of the fabric of footy now.

Clarko can be as genuine in going as he is - and he's not faking it ool - but because he's from a different generation he'll always be perceived as a bit of a novelty or being "patronising" etc.

Its hard to overstate how important Emma Kearney being part of the blokes program is too.

You really notice on the replays how much Martin is in frame and influencing the play even when the stats sound like she didn’t have much impact. Huge credit to her, and the coaches and teammates who’ve helped her with a role that suits her skills.

btw it was nice to see Vicki Wall post the same GF instagram image as the players yesterday.

In the first 10 minutes of the Dees game Niamh lays multiple crunching tackles. She's playing a hugely important role in a grand final team.

We have players to take big marks and crumbing forward for crafty goals etc. Her pace and pressure is equally important.

Yes sure, it's a curiosity value but it shouldn't be the headline - we don't want to see a newspaper front page picture of Clarko in the stands at the grand final with a full description of his every movement and reaction throughout the game, and for the results and game report, go to page 37.

Agreed, of course. But that’s no where near what we got.

Yes absolutely, the one club philosophy is great for our club thanks to Sonja and the board. And I am very pleased that Clarko and the men's program regard the women's program as an inspiration and an opportunity rather than a distraction - which is the way certain other clubs treat their women's program. Let's not forget that when AFLW started, Clarko was coaching Hawthorn and Jeff Kennett was adamant that Hawthorn didn't need or want a women's team. Of course, Jeff changed his tune when government funding and corporate sponsorship opportunities went elsewhere. As for Clarko, well on the one hand, he obviously didn't see eye-to-eye with Jeff on a number of issues, but also, his embracing of women's football is an indication of his growth as well as barriers breaking down as you point out.

Ans how would you know that not even knowing who I am. You sound like a flog too.
How would I know that Emma's aunt would reduce you to a puddle? Because you use words like flog as a pejorative. Calling people that seems a little dated don't you think? What are we doing Triple M 2010? We're in a grand final, this is a good thing. Let's stop this silly bickering and celebrate. Be happy.

We should at least have a few nominees for goal of the year tonight, and maybe even a sneaky chance to win it.
I think the three nominees have been announced and we didn't get a look in.

I like her and frequently defend her against an undeserved amount of crap she cops, but yeah today she was actively barracking against us it felt.

She's got a real set against us, she all but said that Laura Kane somehow retrospectively rigged the entry arrangements for us to allow us to get so many MUGARS stars a few games ago.

im not sure how kellie has a job still commentating
worst voice to listen to

thankfully doesn't call many games these days but needs to go altogether

She is as a quiet as a church mouse, but such a valuable player. Her first game back after injury was the Brisbane loss and has been getting better every game since.

She has been sensational this finals series and is my pick for the GF BoG,

mainly media

IMO we could shoot the entire football media into the sun and we would barely be lessor for it.

They're crap and they're all just looking for clicks.

Yeah we rigged the entry arrangements back in 2009 when we affiliated ourselves with the MUGARS. 9 years before they allowed us into the league.

Fact is we were f***ing overlooked and should have been an inaugural team, it is and forever will be bullshit that we weren't.

It would seem like the perfect opportunity to put on something like a, oh I dunno, let's call it a North Melbourne Grand Final Breakfast. Wouldn't it?

My knowledge of NM is limited because I spent the COVID years in NSW, but from a quick perusal, it looks like there are three contenders for large groups if people want to descend on a venue:
Roasting Warehouse
Le Bajo
Auction Rooms

In reality, there is only one way to start something like a Grand Final Breakfast, and that's to start it. Name a venue and time. Tell people to turn up in their colours. Do it every year until the club/company take over so you don't need to make those decisions any more.

The club insta account @nmfcofficial has seven photos of male players attending the PF., one about how the girls would be wearing black armbands in honor of Gordon McDonald and Father Gerard Dowling, one announcing we are in the GF. And none of the actual game (or post-game) itself. It has eight photos of the last men's training session.

The next step to respecting the women's team and the women's game would to recognise that the Club does not equal the men's team. nmfcofficial should represent the Club not just the men. When we say otherwise it goes back to all the stereotypes about the default being male.

It's all good to have areas focusing on the mens team - and it's even understandable if those areas get more investment and attention - but the achievements of the women's team is the biggest news the CLUB has and should be dominating attention in CLUB spaces. While it remains less than that, we are still treating the women as special guests rather than as core to the fabric of the club.

For all our gender advances this is a huge gap.

(And yes I know there is a nmfcwomens but that's the point)
