Umps are so inconsistent, Craven gets tackled without the ball and its let go (in fact St Kilda get a free a few seconds later for a lingering tackle) yet Patrikios gets a call two minutes later.

Poor third quarter but overall a very good round 1 performance.

  • The three talls in the forward 50 looks like it will work well, just need Randall to convert her chances. :)
  • Gatt can be a real offensive weapon on the wing, she has speed and her disposal has improved from last year.
  • Smith fumbled a few times, but overall has improved again this season, her kicking looks more reliable. Even spent time in the centre and is a tackling machine in the middle.
  • The backline looks very solid, the inclusion of Shannon looks a good fit. It will be interesting to see how much we really miss Brown when we come up against the better teams.
  • Tripodi and O'Loughlin played well up forward, but Eddey was a little quiet.
  • Craven did a couple of good things but struggled in contested situations.

Tremendous win.

These are the games we need to bank away and with percentage on top.

Need to flog the shit teams, beat the good teams and demonstrate we belong with the best teams.

If we only beat two of the top teams we might still finish below Richmond who get another gallery of easybeats in their fixture after the first couple of rounds. Considering they were """"top four"""" last season you'd think they might get a harder fixture, but nope

Geelong may also be a threat, they look a good team this season and play us and Melbourne at Kardinia Park. They don't play Adelaide or Brisbane.

Geelong play Richmond in R9.

Some big games coming up in the next few weeks:

Round 2 - Garner and Randall play their 50th game for North Melbourne. The first two players to reach this mark.
Round 3 - Emma King plays her 50th game for North Melbourne.
Round 4 - Emma Kearney plays her 50th game for North Melbourne.

And then in the second half of the season, Jenna Bruton, Ash Riddell and Nicole Bresenehan should also reach 50 games for North Melbourne.

She’s brave and a good mark. I thought she had a good game
She had a really good shepherd (if I can remember)

She could have sold the candy but was a bit too slow on that occasion

Goes to ground/pushed off the ball too easily

Some dumb disposals by craven as well that just don’t put the ball to the teammates advantage and sells them into trouble like the handball to bresnehan

The 50m penalty was dumb also

Watched the game during lunch. We dominated but scoring was an issue. Looked like we should have won by lots more. Third quarter we slacked off. Good start. Going to be hard to roll the Godees for the flag.

I really hate agreeing with the Nostril, but Craven does look like our weakest link at the moment, she is clever in open space but she is easily outmuscled in the contest. We are going to need stronger bodies if we are going to match it with the Dees later in the season.

Cute clip from the club of the jumper presentations in the rooms today. Jas presented Kate with her jumper and was saying it was a long time coming and she already felt part of the group, Kate had tears, Kearns had tears, just lovely. And she is such a weapon too.
