North Melbourne - Indian Cricket Council Deal

When do the Indians arrive? If there was going to be an announcement you would imagine it would be when the Indians re in the country.

Geez it'd be great if the whole Indian cricket team alighted the flight fully decked out in North Melbourne tracksuits. It would be a once in a million years promotional stunt!!!!!!

I've always thought that India was a huge untapped resource, and that Punter was the key. Every Indian student who applies for permanent residency here (remembering that Melbourne is one of THE top overseas destinations for Indian students studying outside their own country) should be issued with a FREE NMFC membership in year one of their permanent stay. It's the puppy dog sales technique. One year of feeling like they're a part of a very vibrant community in their new hometown and a great club in a sport which is a religion down here, would surely see them renew their memberships in year 2 and beyond.

I was just thinking what will I have for lunch today and whammo, I'm having papadums and a samosa! :thumbsu:

T'toes (and I'll burn an effigy of AD in Collins St, and dance around it with mates, before purchasing lunch...............in true Indian spirit!)

This has lots of merit, as these indian students really love their sport. When i was at uni some Indian guys i knew actually believed Warne was a god. Not that he was just a really, really good bowler, but an actual fully fledged god.

Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, The Tooth fairy and now Warney...

Why won't you all just let me have my childhood.

Maybe R. Ponting, will give a backdoor promise to play for a team, in a couple of years (still getting paid obviously), in return for a sponsership of the NMFC.

He is the biggest name in cricket, getting his name involved in this Billion dollar industry they are creating in India, is like gold, i would not be surprised if they would throw $10million at the Roos (Not like they won't get any exposure for their sponsership), in order to secure Pontings signature down the track.

How would the AFL react to North getting sponsorship from a rival game? Could they veto it?

Can we leak this story to C Wilson of The Age? See if she'll write it. She only needs 80% truth remember?

When it comes to articles about North, the truth is optional.

Indeed. I've often wondered if we couldn't merge the circicket club and footy club into one bigger North Melbourne identity, that way increasing revenues and attracting types like the Indians.

You heard it here first, Brayshaw and one R T Ponting are in discussions with the Indian 20/20 super series cricket promoters to sponsor North to the tune of $10mil.

Brilliant initiative. Those jokers have mountains of cash to splash around.

Yep, we heard it here first.
Now, I'll wait on hearing it through a credible source. (Even the most credible people don't always seem that way on internet forums.)

would be brilliant if true, but i am just not buying it.

Isn't that Indian 20/20 series a rebel one anyway, in opposition to the Indian Cricket council anyway? I hope i am completely wrong on it, but it doesn't add up.

See Hutchy had a note in the HS yesterday about the possibility of NM playing a match in India. Even had a quote from JB about it. Mentioned Punter helping get it set up with his high profile in India.

Either he's on to something or he found this old thread when he had nothing else to write about.

That sounds like a bloody good inititive. Get Brett Lee as well. To sing his gay song HT of the match.

Thommo?

A game in India could be huge.

And think of the merchandising... Butter Chicken Four and Twenty's:thumbsu:

Hell, some of us could even start producing little blue and white striped Bindis:D

Playing in India as a pre-season game as the Pies did with EU, can only mean building the greater network connection. I'm all for that concept but I wonder if
the Indians will get better access to watching North on their channels than we get here (in the future) ??

I nominate Thomas as our Indigenous Indian :thumbsu:

Nah, Not good enough, they would be doubting Thomas.
