Well he's contracted, so yeah not really.
They still do.
North's options are:
1. Let him sit a yr out (he's petulant enough to do it) and have either SA side pick him a yr later in the psd
2. In the off chance they manage to get him to play a year out, demand a huge amount and have him walk to the PSD where noone but SA sides will pick him because of what's happened at north

Well Port risk losing him to the Crows if they don't pay up this year. We've just seen Bobby Hill change his trade request from Essendon to Collingwood over the past year for instance. It's a real risk - particularly if Port look unstable next year with Hinkley underperforming and coming out of contract.

North could also just dig their heels in and draft him in the PSD if they weren't getting a proper deal, as they will probably still have a PSD pick before both SA clubs anyway!

People seem to forget the Tim Kelly deal.

Geelong set a high price, held him to his contract and ended up getting more the following year when out of contract.

Anyway, the inside word seems to be that the Clarkson investigation has turned his head.

Awesome that an alleged historically systemic racist football department at another club has imparted this much collateral damage.

Interesting considering he was very happy to take the Francis name

The old North would have traded pick 1 for five 28 year olds and a future second rounder.

We had a crack and it failed spectacularly. It sucks but I'm still glad we tried to get our first superstar in 20 odd years.

Bit harsh on Lachie Hansen, Shaun Atley, Ryan Bastinac, Max Warren, Ben Warren and Warren from the Virgin mobile ads

A poor look for the guys integrity and character that he wants out after 12 months
I would not go too hard on him.
It is the AFL that has a system that treats youngsters like a commodity that is told they have to have no say in where they are taken as a player as an 18 year old.
If someone genuinely does not want to move interstate they have no say in the matter due to the draft rules
Which is the rules, fine, but it also a bit weird to then go too hard on a youngster when they let it be known, they really want to play in the same region they grew up in which can only assume is what would have been his wishes if there was another option than the draft system. But there is no other system so some just have to wait it out there first few years before they can move back to a state they really want to live in.
Anyway, he may not get out. If he contracted for another year, North may hold him to it, which they are well within their rights to.
I 'd find I would question a guys integrity and character if they had totally pretended otherwise and then spring it on you they are not staying. Has he done that?

He did say pre-draft that he wanted the prestige of being the #1 pick and didn't care where he had to go. I guess he didn't realise the #1 pick usually goes to the bottom club lol

Well, if we win the spoon again in 2023, our assistance package may make the GC one look like a late rookie pick in comparison after the Hawthorn/Clarkson collateral damage and the JHF walkout.

Cal Twomey this morning dropped Tarryn Thomas might be the next casualty of the Clarkson accusations.

TT leaving wouldn't be all Clarko situation. Tough year and understandable frustration from fans and media I imagine a circuit breaker might not be the worst thing

Multiple first round picks, a new home ground, training facilities, colours, nickname...

TT has had one foot out the door all year from a North mate who professes to be an ITK. He's an absolute nuffy but where there is smoke there is fire.

I feel like Clarko is going to be a convenient excuse for a lot of these players having second thoughts about Roos.

For me it's just another nail in our stupid draft system.

There isn't a single upside to drafting 18yos. Not for the player, the club or the competition.

We should be drafting players at 20yo after a year or two of senior football.

They're more mature and better placed to move from family.

They've started an apprenticeship or study.

The clubs know more about them, on and off the field, and how they can perform at senior level.

The clubs draft a player who is more ready made... it's the whole point, the draft is in reverse ladder order so the worst team can get the most improvement from the best young player... not a player who might be good in 3 years.

You can draft the best players, not make it an exercise in trying to predict the future of kids.

The standard of play improves because the elite league isn't also a nursery for underdeveloped kids still learning the game. Even those "playing the kids" aren't playing teenagers.

Instead of an immature kid like JHF North would've taken Matt Rowell at #1 after he'd dominated the VFL for two years. He'd have had an immediate impact this year and made them a better team.

Someone like Giants or Bombers could take him in PSD if their pick is before North.

Yes but you are taking a punt on the top pick in the country, your going to have to gamble a bit.
You not making sense. Butters for JHF is no gamble for North, unless you saying Port taking the gamble and North should add a first rounder in with JHF?
If you did, it did not read that way earlier.

Yes port need to take a gamble on him because of where he went in the draft 12 months ago.
Your not paying for what he has done at afl level your paying for his rating as the best player
In the last year.

So I see it as it’s still a 1-3 pick, so what you would pay for that would be Butters and 8… seems fair.

I do rate Butters very highly as well though but he’s very good not elite like Rozee or Wines.
