Bit of both etc but the missing piece is the fact no one but maybe Luke McDonald fits in that 25-28 age bracket to be around for the next 5+ years as a leader

Club needs to find players in that age bracket first and foremost
We’ll likely try get some free agents that are in that 26-28 bracket but will have to offer a lot of money to make them choose us

We've drafted some good kids, but our player development has sucked for years.

As I said last year, in the long term, North would get better value from a a bit of extra space in their soft cap an an 'AFL sponsored' additional development coach or two than they would from an extra pick.

But that doesn't get the same PR boost for the club, and their fans wont get the same warm feeling from that....So they push for the pick instead, going for immediate gratiification rather than long term improvement.

We brought Logue in, he's 25

Simpkin is 25
McKay is 25
Zurhaar is 25 next month
Larkey 25 in June

Noone should ever get priority picks above what North got last year ever again. Shit clubs don't deserve to have their mistakes covered up. They blew up their list bringing in a bunch of old spuds and completely misread their list. They got rid of solid players like Ben Brown because the face didn't fit. They tried to throw money at a marque signing every year to 'fix' them, then ended up settling for overpaying spuds like Greenwood, Stephenson, Polec and then sat Polec in the VFL while averaging 25+ touches in the AFL for not doing something he'd never done in his career (two way defensive running). There were numerous national media articles of Polec being a heartbeat from retiring from AFL due to his foot and yet they offered him 5 years and his foot lasted the 3 years we offered him. They burned through 4 coaches in 3 years. They didn't diagnose or treat their number 1 draft pick's career threatening injury and blamed his poor back end of 2022 on his effort instead of having 2 f'd legs that they did nothing about. They're exactly where they deserve to be. Hawthorn haven't been any good for 3+ years and they have another 2-3 years of pain. WC have been diabolical and will need 3-5 years to recover. GWS keep on getting raided. GCS have never made finals, have never been close to making finals and get pillaged every year. the GCS package of a few years ago was against the backdrop of them never being able to get off the ground. They've been perennially poor, and in a year that they finished 17th, they lost both co-captains. People on here whined about the aid they got.

There has been no mass-exodus at North. They keep on telling us how everyone loves the club, only naughty JHF left (for which they got a fistful of picks). They have several top 5 picks at the club, will get another this year, have our first rounder, will get a 2nd pick close to a 1st rounder. In a year or 2 they'll have more top 5 draft picks running around for them than Adelaide/Port have had in their history combined. They'll be good again, the draft guarantees it. They deserve the extra years in the toilet they have/ will experience and they don't deserve to have an extra couple of 1st rounders on their list when they're busting at the seams in 3 years time. A couple of picks in the 25-30 range to stabilize and avoid an exodus/death spiral is one thing, but actively rewarding incompetence is another. Teams aren't owed finals and premierships. If they can't become competitive with the ridiculous number of picks they will end up with over a 5-6 year period, with a 4 time premiership coach, and with being financially propped up by another state, they don't deserve to be in the AFL. They're getting better, slowly. They were the worst side since GWS/GCS opening years in 2022, they're only a standard bottom 4 side this year. They'll be 9-15 next year and a genuine chance of finals in 2025, If their supporters don't want to wait it out then go watch EPL and barrack for Real Madrid, Man Utd, Juventus or some other bandwagon team.

North Melbourne priority pick 2023.

Let's go.
Here We Go Again GIF

North fans really gone sour quickly. Post Freo there was a lot of back slapping and Clarko is the messiah.

4 weeks later and it's hands out begging again.

It's North. Did you honestly expect anything different?

The same convo will be happening in 2025.

I think North are in a better place than many are giving them credit for.

It seems to me that it's mostly the older blokes like Howe, Tucker, Turner, Greenwood, etc who are letting the side down or just not contributing much. Whereas most of their better or more crucial players lean to the younger side. As another poster noted above, blokes like Simpkin, LDU, Larkey and Zurhaar are all 25 and under, Sheezel is already looking a gun at 18, a few more potential great kids coming through, and (Goldstein apart) their first choice spine is also in the early/mid 20s.

It's not like they're being held together by a bunch of 32 year olds with nothing coming through.

As a couple of others have said, it might be a better idea to give them a soft-cap increase or something like that, to help them hold on to what they have. Since it seems to be an OK young core coming through.

Agree with this. It has taken North years to sort out the off field staff. People just need to have patience now and let the club grow onfield.

For the last 4 years or so North have had little direction on and off the field. This has largely been sorted now.

Some seriously d*ck comments on here from Carlton, Stk, Fremantle, Port, Essendon supporters. So arrogant for no particular reason. Like I’d be more inclined to understand the arrogance from said supporters if your clubs had done anything of note in recent years…(although I’m not fan of arrogance regardless.) But yeah, not sure where your high and mighty attitudes have come from.

How about addressing them specifically rather than throwing a blanket over entire supporter groups?

Or how about elevating above the trolling rather than contributing to it by bringing up completely irrelevant rubbish regarding the history of other clubs?

Nah not throwing a blanket over entire supporter groups whatsoever - just referring to those supporters in this thread from those teams who have made arrogant comments.

If you don’t think your comments are obnoxious you wouldn’t be inclined to be so defensive.

My point is that perhaps said supporters shouldn’t be trolling another club when they themselves have not too much to hang their hats on in recent times either.

Not defensive at all.

Just find it hilarious that some will dismiss commentary based on club support. You whinge that there's trolling yet that's not much better, seriously bottom of the barrel stuff.

Which comments of mine do you disagree with specifically?

I know what your point is, and it is absurd.

Are you allowed to post about finals football when the club you support hasn't played one since 2016? Am I, given Carlton hasn't been there since 2013? Where do you draw the line on this?

People can talk about finals or lack thereof whenever they want (I don't actually understand what you’re referring to with this). People can chat about anything footy related. But those coming across all judgemental and trolling another club that’s going through a rebuild (first time in I don’t know how many years) but happen to support teams that have gone through similar or teams that haven’t really achieved as they should, is just very odd.

It's a discussion forum. I don't think it's particularly odd.

What I'm getting at, is perhaps address the posts you disagree with rather than calling out an entire supporter base.
Or you know, ignore the posts.

This year would be a good year to give North pick 1 but they must trade it away

In any case I think whatever pick they get, make them trade it away

They need to trade in some better footballers as they hit the draft and just keep missing time and time again.

How would giving north the number 1 pick be good for the competition?
