North Melbourne supporter punches Daniel Motlop

They could ban him for all eternity, but I seriously dont see how they are going to keep him out of that ground, or any other ground, until they have facial recognition technology at every gate, in every ground around the country.

Thats not likely to happen, so I suggest a haircut, a cap/beanie, sunglasses, and anything but royal blue and white clothing.

Light contact that was indeed pretty stupid but so is Motlop for drilling the ball into the crowd. Anyways hope he gets a small penalty and nothing more is made of it.

or.... BAN HIM FOR LIFE

Herald sun has done a piece sounding like the guy absolutely belted motlop.

North melbourne have launched an investigation into the incident and the stadium has said they will too if either team requests they step in.

Apparently Security told him he could stay but he opted to leave realising hed done the wrong thing.

Attacks

You can rely on the media to make it bigger than the sinking of the titanic. Whilst unacceptable attacks is a strange choice of word.

Did the guy actually leave the stadium or just go and sit elsewhere. Pretty poor response tbh from security - they are security aren't they.

Security had a chat to him, told him he could stay if he wanted to, but he opted to leave.

Wasnt a good response by security he should of been ejected or at least made to sit up the back so he couldnt get at the players.

Annoys me as a North supporter that im hearing crap about how "Norf Supporters are crap" based on the actions of one bloke. You dont judge a group of people by the actions of a select few.

That's because security clearly didn't know what happened. The guy left scared after realising or being told he was going to be in big, big trouble.

Being shown everywhere so the guy will be getting in a bunch of trouble and obviously will at least lose his Membership, else the club / cheer squad will look bad.

I understand what he did was wrong. A supporter should never lay hands on a player and the guy is obviously an idiot. He deserved to be ejected and possibly have his membership revoked.

However, seems like it's being blown up a bit. The herald sun are making it sound like the guy absolutely belted Motlop, but the video shows that there was very little in it and I doubt a hardened AFL player like Motlop would've given it any thought at all.

The media just emphasized the incident. You know how 'exaggeration head lines' sells... that's what gets people's attention. If it was a real punch, the headline could of read "CheerSquad member assaults Player at game'

There is a definitive difference between attack and assault. Attack is quite subjective. And strange as you stated. As for security giving the offender a choice to stay, well, that's more of a head line grabber:

Security defend Supporter physical abuse of Player.... WTF ? Exactly.

Strange that the security would give the offender an option.
The security company will be asked to "please explain" to the AFL, Port Adelaide and the public.

The "child" looked back at where Motlop kicked the ball, which was a rather hard kick and low as well.

He obviously didn't like what happened, perhaps it hit someone, or an old lady? And he punches him and says "you're ****ing weak".

Otherwise I can't work out wtf he was doing, perhaps even he doesn't know what he was doing.

Clown act either way.

The guy can be charged with assault. Under no circumstances are you allowed to touch a player, ever. No excuses.
Doesn't matter that some perceive it as a little tap, no damage etc.

He had intent, he actually crossed the line and punched a player.

He will be lucky to get away with not being charged, losing his membership and being banned from afl matches australia wide.

That would require motlop to press charges, and while a tool, I doubt hed even bother with something like this.

What tripe.

The ball was not drilled into anyone. It was lobbed 20 rows back.

Props to Motlop, handled it well. As for the North supporter/ cheer squad member - should have at least been ejected from the ground. Not a life ban offense but the players person should be off limits to everyone apart from opponents.

As i posted earlier, North will make him apologise either directly to the PAFC or to Motlop and possibly they will ban him but I wouldn't think this would be much more than three or so matches.

I was wondering however, just where does club membership or stadium rules state you cannot touch players at the grounds in question? I know it is common sense however i'm sure there are written rules about running onto the field / fines etc so why not the same just to make it crystal clear for some of the (not sure which word to insert here ;)) that each and every one of our clubs have.

As I've previously said, what is the difference between a 2 year ban and a 5 year ban? If he's not wearing the same clothes or sitting in the cheer squad, he could probably get into Etihad for North Melbourne's next game there, if he wanted to, let alone to any other AFL venue around the country. Think the MCG attendants will be keeping an eye out for him before the round 8 Geelong vs Collingwood match? I've seriously got no idea how you can ban people from getting into games where upwards of 40,000 people are in attendance, if they have a valid ticket.

5 years carries a bit more weight behind as it is a fair slice of a person's life/time... makes them think twice before doing something silly to a player/official etc. 5 years also provides a significant time for someone to mature and reflect back on their actions... ie a 15yo doing it wont "wisen up" much by the time they're 17yo... but potentially will by 20yo. Similar for a 20yo to 25yo.

As for getting in... sure he might get in but he runs the risk of making it worse if he is caught. A bit like re-occuring criminals. They have several levels/methods of enforcing the ban:

- name blacklisted when buying season or game day tickets.
- photo added to the "do not admit" lists.
- security people and CCTV monitoring the ground for blacklisted people.

How do you think security is applied for other risky civilians/terrorist threats etc?

Correct. Just saw the goal again and confirmed my suspicions that North supporters pushing the 'he deliberately drilled it at the cheer squad' barrow are talking absolute garbage. Anyone in the crowd who got hit by that footy can blame nobody but themselves. And of course, Motlop has every right to kick a goal however he feels like, it's incumbent on the supporters who choose to sit behind the goals to be switched on and prepared to take evasive action.

Not much in it, was a very weak 'punch'. Motlop handled it well and the guy will have to apologise and cop a slap on the wrist for being an idiot, to the people saying he should be charged with assualt....cmon its idiots like you that clog up the legal system with petty crap.

I rate that slapper throwing beer on Brad Johnson worse than this simpletons actions.
