Discussion North Melbourne's home jumper going forward

Not sure why the fuss. Yeah, it grates that Eddie wins and yet again everyone has to accommodate his wank, but it's not like North is being asked to change colours - they did wear a royal blue jumper for many years when joining the league. All of the variants look very North, which when considering some of the other clubs and their variants, is a good position to be in (Power Rangers, anyone...?)...

What's the school got to do with the tri-panel?
Sometime in the late 90s, The Eagles went down to the local primary school in Wembley, with a few jumper ideas, and asked some of the students what there favourite designs were of the selected few. Naturally, being kiddies that are fond of things crazily bright, the majority said they liked the brightness of what we know as the ochre and the tripanel over the club's previously existing winged design.

I hope those kids have been executed for their treachery.

They should have a heritage round themed "Worst Jumpers"...home, away, preseason, anything goes...

You could melt a tv screen with a game between the WC orange sherbert and any number of fabulous Hawk designs...

Seriously, North Melbourne might be the only team with nothing worthwhile to offer...

That's bizarre. Did the rest of the club's supporters get a say (I suspect not)? As a technique it might explain other clubs' jumper choices!

Re North's home jumper going forward, I think it will be a bit sad to see the white losing relevance and the blue becoming the main (as it was with Collingwood's). It makes sense to use the blue as home though, as part of the general home-dark away-light scenario. How the bounding kangaroo then fits in I'm not sure: an occasional Away in far-flung places perhaps? Last night's match-up v Port was odd; I agree with others who have said we could have worn black shorts without any fear of a clash, and probably a reduction in clash from using the white shorts.

I've been thinking of that too. North did have the orange kangaroo they could use!

Hawthorn would have enough jumpers for a decade or two of this themed round :p

I personally like how it looks... but I could definitely understand how crap it would be to see it as a North Melbourne supporter after having the same blue stripes on a white base for about 80yrs.
Aesthetically, I prefer it over the white kit. barring the bounding roo (which I couldn't pass up) I've only bought the blue kit.

But, we've won 4 premierships and played over 80 years in it, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

I was bit surprised to see the Blue Roos yesterday, it definitely made it a bit harder to distinguish between the two teams when the ball was at the other end of the ground.

But it was a North home game so they can wear what they want. It's up to the visitors to change if required IMO.

Port probably should've gone with the white kit really.

Yes and no, when you decided to ditch your home kit and wear your clash instead you sort of lose that privilidge. In the EPL for example how often does the home team decide to wear their away or third kit?

Why?
Home team can wear whatever they want, and it's up to the away team to solve it.

That's abuse of home privilidge and rights.

Why have a home jumper at all if your going to wear your clash.

Why should the home team lose any rights?

Their house. Their rules. They can do what they want.

As I said before, look at the EPL and see how often it happens.

At the start of the season North's home Guernsey is their white with blue stripes. Because they are stupid enough to think that shorts are more sacred than the jumper they have started wearing their clash kit at home, which is an insult to their fans and those who won premierships in their main jumper.

If that's a genuine issue for the fans then that's for the club to sort out with them and it really doesn't concern anyone else.

It's not very often that clubs from any league would make a change to their home kit, but on the odd occasion that it happens the away teams simply wear something else if necessary. Simples.

Whether you think it's a good move or not is up for debate, but it's their move to make for better or worse.

It's such a good comparison I had to bring it over here.

Never thought I would be agreeing with Numchuckles about something like this but he is bang on. It's pointless arguing for the "traditional" mostly white home jumper when the current mostly white jumper is much more white than the one that I remember Ross Glendinning and Malcolm Blight wearing.

It's a very interesting debate but I do think ultimately the members should get to decide.

IMO, club members should get to vote on the away strip each season and if there is an issue like this with the home, they should have the final say on that too.

The issue can be resolved either way but it's the members who should decide, as they're the ones that care most and pay to watch their team each week.

I'm still disappointed that in 12 years of Saints membership I have not been able to vote on a single issue (in a vote that was only open to members, there were some open polls for NAB cup strips).

Do you go to the AGMs?
