North pushing for 1 home game in Perth

According to Hutchy on the Footy Show North Melbourne will be applying to play 1 game in Perth vs the Weagles next year for about $600,000 - on the bye weekend being the only game of the day.

JB said the club was hoping to make it a marquee game.

We've applied for it before and been knocked back (due to it being an established footy region), but due to the stadium deals is looking more likely.

Will net the club in excess for 600k.

Would be great for us and our large following in WA.

(Gibbo just said we've hit 30k members too)

Hope it's against Fremantle. ;)

I don't have a problem with the club selling 1 game out in this fashion. Making $600,000 grand from 1 game like that more than makes up for having to write $100,000 cheques after playing teams like Port and Fremantle in Melbourne. It completely offset's those losses, and is sound economics.

Besides, I understand that there are quite a lot of NMFC fans in WA.

if we can make $650k for one game up there I'd say go for it. It would pay for all the other home games against interstate sides where we currently lose money.

You'd be crazy not to go for it. 650k for a game where we can sell to our most loyal interstate fans and where we have had a great history of players!

Woah woah woah. Let's not go saying things that we can't take back. ;)

There's a very loyal SA contingent of North fans. Myself, jozeph, Scottroo, etc. Then you've got posters like Arden and Gabbie up in QLD, Mini-Laidley up in Darwin, etc etc.

Sorry, chad, didn't mean to offend in that way. More about the greater amount of support, and the history of some of our players who have come from the WA.

The clubs greatest player of all time was recruited from SA ;)

Wow... i'm coming across as a South Australian in this thread. How unattractive.

Go North Melbourne! Woo! Etc etc.

As a Freo supporter and member this would absolutely suck - essentially 1 extra home game to WCE.....NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAAAAAAAAAAAY!

If we can more than offset the combined losses made against the lower drawing teams at Jihad Dome in ONE match, it's a brilliant move. I hope it comes off!

It's also another excuse to head West during the year :thumbsu:

This is a great idea.

We have a great historical connection to WA, even now with the President and the Coach hailing from there...

Play ball please AFL there is much positive about this.

Let me preface this by saying I love our Perth members and I'm rapt they might extract an extra game out of this.

However, my main problems with this are three-fold:

1. Come to the 30K members and let them know of your plans first. There's a lot of goodwill in the electorate for this administration - trust us to listen to you and support you if you think there is no alternative. This smells of the cloak and dagger stuff of past regimes that we didn't like.

2. This seems to be another short-term solution to me. How long will we be doing this for? One year? Two years? Until the stadium deal is sorted? We've been down this track before and it's done nothing to help the fundamental issue we face as a footy club - getting enough members to pay up and turn up at our home games. I fail to see how this addresses this key point.

3. Effectively giving a club an extra home game compromises the rest of the competition. I don't want to be a party to that.

Footy then a trip to the Margaret River for some fine red wine. Works for me :thumbsu:

A short term solution is precisely what it is windsock, as the current situation with our stadium deal could ruin us, and the solution to it long term is out of our hands. So, while the AFL and Collo's greedy shareholders quibble as we fund their excess, we have a way of offsetting the losses without going cap in hand to the AFL.

It would be nice to be sitting on the Northern wing while the Weagles members sit up behind the goals at the city end with the sun in their eyes.

Spot on.

However, I would be against playing games in anywhere else but WA as they are part of our history.
