Wen have struggled for years to win contest and withstand pressure. We have been great at it in 2 games which we won when we go away from it like yesterday we look terrible. If we had been competitive in the midfield earlier we would have better conversion because we wouldn’t been forced out wide. This rebuilding roller coaster is hard work hey.

Harley Reid out and Tim Kelly the week before were big outs in the middle. Eagles need a bit more midfield depth but it will come.

Yeah we also have a pretty decent kid in Hewett who has missed most of the year and Oscar Allen. But look we have had 3 poor weeks it happens. We don’t have the depth to cope with injuries to the midfield ATM.

Samesies.

McBurney also ticked off a holding the ball free kick that was awarded against West Coast's Elliot Yeo late in the Eagles' loss to the Kangaroos, which saw North co-captain Jy Simpkin kick a pivotal goal.

"The rules require that if you dive on the ball or drag it back in that you must knock it clear immediately," McBurney said.

"He doesn't do that, the tackle is effective so we say holding the ball is the correct outcome."

Re the late free against Yeo to Simpkin, the concept of Recency Bias is the one people have been reaching for and not quite getting there. There are many frees called in a game. Some are there, some might be there, some are interpretation, some aren't there. There are many frees not called in a game - North regularly see pivotal goals scored in the first quarter's red time. Regardless of the rules as written, and the actions as taken, that one will be the focus of the media because they have the imagination of a caravan site. They could equally look at any of the missed, or wrong, frees that any of our board comrades have listed. We won. We were the team that deserved to win - we played better, for longer. Will be re-watching the game tonight, with Benny Hill music.

Wouldn't have been paid if Margetts was still umpiring

I too hope Carlton lose. Not as much as Gaso, but still.
Have changed my mind due to the vice of gambling and starting to feel much more strongly that Carlton should die in a screaming heap this evening.

Xerri chase on Ryan has to feature in every pre and post match meeting for the rest of the season
Next clip would be Fordy’s defensive efforts in the final minutes. His best defensive game since his job on Stewart.

Club needs to put together a compilation of all the huge efforts 1% etc then show it to the team as a statement. This is the standard this is what we expect every week. All our players were absolute terriers yesterday when diving in for takes especially then you look at xerris effort for example. These are what we need week in week out. The players have showed it now back it up.

Sonja hood said to a mate of mine start of the season we expect/ want 6-8 wins for the season. Up until now we've looked nowhere near it till last night. use this and start to get that culture back

Just finished the game.

Loved Ginby trying to be tough and shoving Wardlaw around, cheap shots to the kidneys etc.

Wardlaw just ignores him like he means nothing to him. The ultimate insult.

Was going to do forensics on what and who did badly or well, who got exposed etc etc but you know what...we all know where the deficiencies are and like my original post, just savour the win and the boys fighting back.
This from the LDU summed it up and pay careful attention to his insight to his game yesterday, there's hope he stays for the full course of this rebuild!!

George was making Ryan uncomfortable in the centre square a bit in the last quarter. Pit Bull to the final siren Georgie Boy

Objectively you beat our midfield hands down for 3 quarters. Very good team performance. Thought Larkey was great Simpkin played a real captains game. Good recovery from being smashed for a quarter. I had actually forgot about the NicNat after the siren win and the 2015 game good memories. It’s hard to begrudge you for being up and about after a win given it’s been what 13 in 4 years. Very good performance look forward to the return leg hopefully we have a few back.
Hopefully Reid plays when we meet here in Tassie.
Would love to see Reid vs Wardlaw/McKercher head to head.

The AFL has advised Gold Coast the free kick against Mac Andrew on Max King shouldn’t have been paid. The umpire won’t be dropped for the decision.
However the umpire has been called into AFL headquarters to explain why he let one of the golden child teams loose . Here’s a snippet of the pending meeting. 1717919786404.gif
