is anyone putting their selections for round 1 on the board?
mine are:
premiership favourites heidelberg to be way too big and strong for eltham
montmorency to easily account for lalor
bundoora to prove that they are heidelbergs biggest threat with an easy win over north heidelberg
greensborough to use their division one experience to beat thomastown
west preston to start off their vinnie-era with a win over northcote park
good luck to all players.

Cougars had a strong win against West Preston.

Not much has changed with the umps, they still aren't protecting the player.

Some Ali bloke spent a good couple of minutes abusing our coach while a goal was kicked by the cougars.

I look forward to reading the work of COugars 09

So WAR HORSE who down there in the 2's gets paid? Would love to hear some names.

We'll I KNOW that one player is getting paid - i can only assume that there are a few more.
Probably not my place to name names but a guy who did VERY well in the 2's last year who had A LOT of offers from other clubs and that Heidelberg were obviously still keen to keep even if he is not playing regular senior football.
I found it hard to believe it when i heard it as well but apparently this is the case.

Wondered down to Warringul to see what most would have thought to be a lesson for round 1 for the Panther by the mighty 'bergers. And after the first quarter it looked like it could be anything, Tigers to big, strong and probably had 100 clearance from the middle. But then the Panther clicked a bit and started to peg away the margin and other than a few late goals probably matched them for the rest of the game (40 points down at 1/4 time to lose by 58).

Heidelberg just too big with the big fella in the middle (surely he can play at a higher level) and Hally down front. Manage to relax a bit then smash and punish any mistake.

Interesting to see many premiership players paying a penence in the twos.

Also good to see all Tigers players and coach show the respect to Haysey and straight over to him to shake hands after the game. Shows the respect they have for a person that gave alot to them.

Shame to see possible major injury to Panther legend Skips, hopefully then news is good.

Also liked what I saw at FF for Eltham, first time in years we have had a target that can mark like that.

Good day, can't say I left too disappointed (would have if the remainder of the game was like the first 1/4) Reckon from what I saw the running young Panther will win a few more than last year and upset a few.

Thats awesome. How did the 7"5' bloke & Andrew Dobby go?

Dobby was fantastic in his first game for the club.Kicked a goal that got us within a kick in the last quarter and was involved in a down ground free leading to banga kicking the goal that gave us the lead. The big fella is still a work in progress but he battled really well all day and will only get better once he becomes accustomed to the pace of the game. Great effort by the boys to come back from 47pts down late in the 3rd quarter and overrun last season's runners up.All our young blokes went well and we can only hope they keep improving throughout the season, however what a way to start the season.

Alright para rd boys lets hear what the umpire did, or didn't do..... ;);)

WOW 47 down against Mont and to win like that MUST mean the beer tasted good after the game. Amazing result. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

How late in the third...when you turned it around.

I hear the bergers did it easy over eltham, what about the other games....[/QUOTE]

Lets wait and see how the slime go up against the bergers. Eltham did ok today, time will tell

Speaking to Dobby he said it was a 53pt margin at 3/4 time and they needed to kick 10 goals in the last quarter to win. Obviously did it.

I had to ring my mate from down there to confirm this, an unbeleivable result from the Lalor boys. All reports out of there is that they have done the hard yards off the ground to get things up and running and it looks as though it is starting to pay in spades for them on the ground. One thing I can attest to is the intensity that these young fellas in that side play with and my contact down there seems to think that even though it is a work in progress they are on track with their 3-5 year plan. A strong Lalor is good for our comp same as us (Bergers) Bundoora and North.

Relax sparksy- i wasn't havin a crack at eltham, merely relaying what i heard. 50 points is easy any way you look at it (and as detailed in the match report above). i'm glad eltham made a game of it after 1/4 time and look forward to what by all accounts should be a great battle this week.:thumbsu:

Not good news about skips- what injury was it (i'm assuming one of his knees)? He is a gun and hope the recovery is quick!:thumbsu:

Sydney crescent will be going off at the moment......look out!
Maybe Monty should have spent more cash on the field instead of on the clubrooms :)D)- sounds like it would have been a great game to watch.

Can somebody please tell me how you can access the NFL website to check out the goalkickers and best players or is this not available at the moment ??

the panthers were good. their young blokes certainly can play.but as they found out so can ours.they got within 3 goals a few times and looked really good. congrats to our wonderful committee for getting all the young blokes to the club.and yes a few older blokes showed they can still play. looking forward to next week under the new lights on the beach at para .rd.. i'm sure they will come out flying looking for revenge.also well done to the 19s who are starting to fire and will improve heaps this year.www.heidelbergfc.com.au for all your club info,
snakey

What a great start to the season it looks like its gonna be a good one for the league and b4 i get onto yesterdays game just wondering where mike sheehan is, i mean the red oval ball goose is after his knowledge of the comp. "Thomo will push norhcote and lalor" so they must be going to beat monty and west then, you know your footy mate no wonder you use your alias i wouldnt tell noone who i was either. We all cant wait for your next bit of info you give us.

Great start to the cougars and although we had a few things go our way early, wests captain injured in the warm up and some little rat getting reported which he deserved to we jumped west and doing it easy in the first with everyone getting plenty of touches. the second swung around with our boys relaxing and running forward we got smashed in the clearances and west took there chances thru morrison(great set of hands) and a couple of there new handy on ball recruits who can all play. one ducks his head all the time not thru being scared but to get free's. the one with the big mouth!! (can play though also). half time scores were even just about. after massive spray by the coach we turned it on enough to have the game in control and west never really threatened. all new recruits played well and with more big names back next week. looking forward to the big clash at lalor reserve next week. Cougar Out

Boro - you are right I reckon it will be a cracker, and ANZAC day should make a good crowd, after the dawn service then a few at the RSL I am sure many will be at Panther Place for the game....then a quick cab to Para rd for the game under lights of the Maggies and the Tigers, That will also be a interesting game.....thats if I can still see or stand.

I did see the Boro scouts out watching the Panther in readines, don't know what they would have taken out of it.

Skips looked to have done serious injury to his shoulder, I have not heard any news but he did have to go to hospital, here hoping but I am rather cautious and thinking the worst.:mad::mad:

I am gunna sound like an old fart here. But discrageful by the league all I see is a lot of pissed people from all clubs turning up. Not what they preach about responsible serving of alchol etc. Hope they have plenty of police for the day, In by the way comes out of our coffers, good income for mont maybe they need to give some back to the clubs. or use it to bail people out of Goal.

What about Violato's screamer in the first Cougar09?
Surely a mark of the year contender.

Always the optimist you 'old fart'. If Mont make a shit load ... Good for them. Yeah good one! Lets just give our hard-earned away to all the Mr Optimistic Poor Me of the NFL to be squandered.

Perhaps you may want to save your advice to helping Macleod get the monkey off their backs.

Some things may just come back to bite you on the arse. After yesterday it appears Mont still have not spent enough so yea goodluck to them for their profits for next week. After yesterdays result hopefully they will be able to use it better next year on their recruiting drive.

The only advice I have got for the Macleod people is instead of saying what they have for the last three years which has not worked "Keep a lid on it" is **** it "take the lid off" and bring on whoever you like.
