How much can the NFL try to sanitize the game? This crackdown on swearing is ridiculous. They have boys umpiring men, and if they cant understand that blokes swear during the game (intentional or unintentional), then someone needs to pull them aside and set them straight. I can understand if there are women and children in the vicinity and it is loud and out of control, but when it is between 2 grown men with no one but players and an umpire close by, why would there be a yellow card given. The NFL have to remember that is a mans game and if they want boys to umpire they should be prepared to hear a bit of swearing.

mate have you lost the plot?? your just put about 8 post up here that are all stupid.
can anybody from macleod let me know what mark lynch is up to from memory he was the assistant coach of the 1s a couple yrs ago, did he get the ass?? id like to think so, good bloke but has no football brain and should no doubt stick to cricket!!!!

Fishboy,

I think he was stood aside for an executive of the Junior Club. Rumour has it that he was let go because his son refused to come back if he was involved so he resigned.

Bit of a shame as I have heard he had an excellent footy brain and apparently a better player than his son.

Clutch Love it.

Clutch,
You must have some very good inside information because you are spot on. Can't believe the gravel-like tones of Mark Lynch (better known to all as Ralph) are not being put to better use. Maybe he and the senior coach had some work-related issues at Oz Post. BTW Clutch, I am fascinated by your nickname – you aren't the tall, stringy forward from De Winton?

the standard of umpiring is crap.

but what u gunna do about it??? where are they going to pluck them from???

they cop so much abuse from every angle (ive given my share) yet we expect them to recruit good umpires who are mature and know the game.

unfortunately this problem is here to stay, and will more than likely get worse.

Is the standard of umpiring going to reflect the 3 divisions ?
Do the umpires get promoted or demoted based on their performance & fitness and is this reflective in their paypacket from D1 games to D2 games, and now to D3 games ?
Maybe Whistleblower can confirm this

in regards to umpiring, they get rotated around through divisions & levels,i.e div1 to div2 , res to snrs etc.

senior umpires pretty much stay within the top divs.

pay wise $110.00 div 1
$105.00 div2

anyone doing it for the money is crazy given time for training, travel & abuse.

i for one do it for enjoyment, fitness, socialising & hopefully raising the standard of respect between player & official.

a two way street for respect also applies.

we will never win a contest because the one eyed supporter is always right.

i challenge each & everyone of you who abuse or criticise to have a crack & see how you go.

some might actually find that it is easy, but a majority will find it difficult.

whilst this is not a reason nor excuse, just for a game actually watch the entire game not just your side.

hope that helps

pay wise $110.00 div 1 - Beer Money :D
$105.00 div2

anyone doing it for the money is crazy given time for training,- Keeps ya Fit Lard a$$
travel - The Valley isnt that Bloody big
& abuse. - Youre kidding - try spending some time with the missus - then you 'll cop some abuse. lol

wb

Just joking. It takes a very special person to be an umpire, and by golly have we got some Specials amongst the current crop of umpires. :p

Please do not lick my windows again.

when i was at high school i did boundary umpiring. that was 2002 i think.

i that time the standard of umpiring and boundary umpiring has dropped and i can only imagine this is due to lack of good umpires.

you were doing well to get senior matches, let alone div1.

like WB said, the time spent training, vs money u make is not very good.

Put it in perspective Mitch, there are a hell of lot of seconds and under 19 players out there who would do as much training as the umpires. But please take note the Yellas are the only ones getting paid. Enjoy it.

Exactly right. Believe it or not there are players out there that play footy because they enjoy it and not for the money. Surely in the umpire fraternity it would be the same. I think they need to make the most of what they have down at umpire land and maybe put their chargers through more theory training, to help them understand the in house rules more ie: what actually constitutes a yellow card, and not leave it to each umpires interpretation. Because as a player it is an unknown.

are u serious mate?

comparing paying people umpiring the 2' and 19's with paying the players???

the players play for enjoyment and to be part of a footy club, something most of us on here are happy to pay our membership for and don't care about match payments.

umpires get abused and are seen as outsiders to the footy world. theres nothing cool about umpiring. people give umpires shit flat out. hence they need to get paid or else we'd have a couple of fat blokes from each club doing it and paying free kicks to their mates!!!!

i trained with umpires for 1 year, theres nothing exciting about sprints and laps all night!!!

put it into perspective.

don't get me wrong. the umpires need better training and to learn the game more.

but why would anyone wanna be an umpire??? besides a select few that just love footy and being apart of it regardless of the flack they cop, most are in it for money.

ROUND 18
Whittlesea vs Fitzroy Stars
Macleod vs Lower Plenty
Epping vs Mernda
Diamond Creek vs Watsonia

Just noted on the NFL website that they have already tinkered with the revised draw. Macleod now playing Fitzroy Stars Round 15, then Epping on Round 16.

At least the NFL are consistent with their inconsistencies

So the Bears who have only won 8 of 13 and "bearly" beaten a team above them are going to win the remaining five all aginst the top teams to finish on 13. Yerright, not self-absorbed - just got your hands too full.

Lowers results against teams higher on the ladder:

Macleod - lost by 71, beaten convincingly, very early in the season

Diamond Creek - lost by 51, beaten convincingly, round 1

Mernda - won by 37 points

Whittlesea - lost by 10 points, ask anyone at the game, 2 minutes longer at lower would've won.

Epping - lost by 20 points, good fightback, came back in the last quarter kicking 5 goals 7 in the last to 1 goal 1.

Fitzroy - won by 44 points

Lower has beaten 2 out of the 6 teams above them, with a couple of narrow losses. Had a tough start for the year playing against diamo coming down from divvy 1, whittlesea after thay hardly lost a game all last year, and maclead who are obviously a quality side. I don't think anyone in divvy 2 will be taking Lower lightly in the last 5 rounds.

If you know Mitch you've taken him the wrong way. We're coming from a long way back and got a tough draw and would need a lot of things to go right, but have to be optimistic dont you.

We've actually beaten 2 teams above us - Mernda and Fitzroy Stars and lost to 3 others by under 20 points and got a fair touch up by the other 2, who are clearly the best 2 in it. Although we've beaten Mernda and Fitzroy, we now play them at their ground, so a lot tougher, but certainly not without a chance and would like to think we're also a chance against Whittlesea at home, where we havent lost since Round 1. Would need to play out of our skins to beat Diamo and Macleod. Realistically, need to win 4, if not 5, so massive task ahead - starting this week!!! Every game is now an elimination final.

Lower will battle against Macleod and Diamo but could beat any other team in Divvy 2 if things went there way, struggled at the start of the season with injuries and a few guys missing games due to suspensions but i reakon they could be the dark horse, they may have left there run a little to late but they could alter the make up of the finals with a few wins along the way.

I have heard a very good rumour with a very reliable source that a Tyson Troung will be suiting up for the Lower Plenty boys next season. Mark this headline down and get back 2 me next season

Lower are capable of beating Mernda and Whittlesea. My calculations allowed for them to win against stars. To make finals they will need to beat Stars, Mernda, Whittlesea and have a win against either Creek or Macleod.

If they do make it they wont be just making up the numbers as they would be in some fairly hot form.

On the other hand lose to Fitz, Mernda or Whittlesea and the arse will drop out the season.

Word has it that the Leaugue may do another backflip in regards to the make up of div 3, in order for it to go ahead. In the beginning it was going ahead even if there was only 6 teams to kick it off, then it was dependant on at least 1 or 2 other clubs joining, now they may go back to kicking it off with 6 again. Expect more backflips than the floor excercise at the gymnastics, in the times ahead.
