I am a little confused by the NFL Results, I don't understand why they have scores listed if the games were a forfeit, another stupid thing is the Mernda reserves teams percentage increased from last week. Any thoughts or rumours on the Round 18 clash against Lower Plenty to be played at Lake Mernda.

Just guessing, buy it would appear that they have given the forfeiting Mernda the average losing score for the round and Diamo the average winning score.

Cletus, I too look at this from afar and admire you for taking a view along the side of Mernda. Having said that, can I suggest that you may not be entirely correct on some of your points.

You say :

Mernda was well within it's rights to call the games off against Diamond Creek, after their home games were moved

I say :

It sounds sooky la la & petty to me. Especially when there were alternatives including use of D.C's ground with Monentary compensation offered.

You say :

for decades the Mernda Recreation Reserve has had virtually no council $$ or assistance compared to the likes of Whittlesea, Epping, South Morang, etc

I say:

Bullshit. I can recall the Mernda oval & facilities having had a major renovation of sorts back in the late 90's early 00's. It may not of had as much $$$ as other venues, but surely you demonstrate your disapproval at council election time not by spitting your dummy over a moved football game

you say:

it's a joke that Mernda have to move their games at the behest of the NFL, whilst Panton Hill continue to play it's home games on a ground that's a mudpile, the inconsistency of the NFL's stance in regards to this is breathtaking,

I say:

Whilst the NFL maybe a joke and inconsistent ( I won't argue this) , the fact is that P.H play on a ground governend by another council (Nilumbik) who probably show more balls than the Whittlesea Council who obviously fear being sued should an injury occur because of the state of the ground.

You say:

Mernda is well within it's rights to be upset about that, afterall it is a winter sport and getting a little muddy shouldn't be a cause to have a game moved

I say:

Upset is fine, being pig headed, stubborn and as dumb as dog shit to forfeit, well they should as they say, "suck it up princess!"

You say:

The club had the same problems when my dad was President (in the 70's & 80's, when the Mernda area was considered at best an afterthought by the council), and sadly this apathy has continued under the current administration, and there's no way that the club would have made such a bold decision without first looking at the potential blow back.

I say:

Yep, Mernda were pricks back then and they remain pricks right now as well. They seemingly care only for themselves and couldn't care less for the sake of the competition. And I suggest that it was probably more a Dumb and uninformed decision rather than a bold decision that they made:

You say:

It's unfortunate for both St Mary's & Diamond Creek that they didn't play (as well as the 3 teams from Mernda), but Mernda in the long term did the right thing by doing this because, not playing should be the antithesis of a football club, and therefore any club that goes down this path, has to have some pretty big reasons as to why they would cancel games

I say:

Yes it is unfortunate for all teams concerned but let's face it, Mernda did the wrong thing both short term & long term. If they have "pretty big reasons" as you say, let's hear what they are, because there is absolutely no case for putting Your own objective ahead of the Leagues objective, especially when the main objective is to play football in a safe environment.
As they say, the League is Mightier than the individual club. So get over yourselves Mernda you're not that Bloody good.

I don't want to get into a flame war here because of this, and we both have strong opinions about this great game, but I would like to bring up some of the points that you have made here and provide a rebuttal to them.

Firstly, I knew that Diamond Creek offered the gate, canteen & bar money to Mernda if that game went ahead, and it was a good gesture from them, but considering that there have been a few grounds in the NFL that have been in worse shape and still have had games played on them (Panton Hill this year & Lower Plenty, which last year looked like a rabbits warren with all the holes on the ground), and yes I know that these grounds are in different councils, but it still doesn't excuse the Whittlesea council.

Mernda has the right to feel a bit miffed about not playing at their home ground, because of the actions of the Whittlesea Council, but if I were in Mernda's position, I still would've played at Diamond Creek but I would have it noted that we do so reluctantly, expressing our displeasure at both the council and the NFL, for inflicting this upon the club, I don't entirely agree with the decision, but I can understand why they did it.

And although the Council has thrown Mernda some money in regards to the ground, but historically they have always been treated shabbily by the council (My dad had this problem for years, for both Cricket & Footy, and it wasn't until he threatened to run for council that they took notice, because just like today, Mernda has felt that they've been painted in a corner, and had no choice but to do something drastic).

And although from a distance, Mernda's actions may seem petty and look like their cutting their nose off to spite their face, but there are historic reasons behind this, not just the actions of the past week.

Although I can't speak on behalf of previous committee's, but what I can say that my dad always thought both club wise and league wise (He wasn't interested in petty fiefdoms, dad did it because he loved sport, and he had the club's best interest at heart), and although he ruled the club with an iron fist, Mernda had to be ran that way when he was in charge, and in the end it paid off and they've been a consistent club in the DVFL/NFL, thanks to many people at Mernda including my dad.

And yes, I agree that the council, the club and the NFL should try to deliver the best conditions to the players, but their concern just rings hollow, when you compare their situation to other clubs.

Although this means that Mernda now won't make the finals in the seniors, but I think that in the long run, this could turn out O.K for the club, even though it was a bold move on their part.

That is probanly correct, but they have not adjusted the score FOR Diamond Creek in the ladder from the previous week but have added in the score AGAINST, meaning a drop in percentage

This weeks Round 17 is shaping up to be the match of the season,
Epping vs Mernda
It looks like the game has already started here on BigFooty. Should be a cracker, cant wait to see the Tribunal listings after the game. May the best team win or forfeit.

If the NFL Board has any backbone, this game, and the Mernda vs Lower Plenty games won't be played. The NFL Board needs to show some direction and suspend the Mernda club for the remainder of the season for their actions in disregarding the League Rules and By-Laws, hit them with a fine to cover loss of income to Epping and all umpire fees for the remaining two games and make them re-apply for admission for season 2011. The Mernda club's actions have made the League a laughing stock amongst other leagues unless strong action is taken !

Kickass is correct in how it has been worked out. However, I believe that the ladder is automatically calculated from the scores entered, and if you have a look at the Diamond Creek score you will see that the Total Points is shown as 0 (zero) so that is probably why the FOR total for Diamond Creek hasn't been increased and their percentage has gone down. I assume that it will be corrected later in the week.

Well been away for a few weeks and what a big few weeks it has been in NFL DIV 2 thread!!!

About the Mernda issue at hand I think there is a few good points from both side, Is the ground that bad compared to many years ago when Diamo's ground was a bog heap after any rain, I remember playing there and you could'nt tell the numbers on the back of every player on the ground even tell which player was yours, and cant think of once a game been called off there!!!(NFL Board soft as)

Also if the decision was made that the game was to be moved then they (Mernda) should have sucked it up and just played, most likely for their 2's they would have gave them a run for there money and possible finished 2nd.

But another point is being raised regarding getting $ from council for the ground compared to epping, whitt ect. Well the reason they got the money when they did many years back 10 years whitt, epping 10yrs+ they had many junior teams and senior teams, Mernda have only recently started getting and building juniors which is good for the club but can't expect to get funding when it HAD limited use. As a election is around the corner in both fed and state this is the time to be pushing the point to the local members not to the NFL as they struggle to run the comp let alone push for grounds to be redeveloped!!!!

As mernda and thomo are the only grounds in div 2 that have not been redeveloped in the past 10 yrs so time for the NFL to get behind the clubs and push the point to the local government to get support for funding to improve the comp even more, as ground conditions will do that!!

yourkidding, what players do you think are capable of playing Division 1 that another club would be chasing.

You are Kidding yourself
you find it hard to believe that another club hopeful of playing div 1 would do all they could to bolster their numbers.your a clown....which ever club goes up is going to lose players so getting on the front foot early is only going to help fill the void..several players from mernda could play div 1, i did't say they would star but some major recruiting would obviously be needed by any club moving to div 1..

Also was speaking to a Whitt associate and they stated that it was interesting that 2 players played in the 2's most of the game then went on to play in the 1's??? One was said to be llmoose??? At the start of the year it was said that Epping was going to be very strong as they lost no one but picked up many??? Has the wheels fallen off or is there lots of injuries, but on sporting pulse they have named a full team with out the 2 that played in the 2's??? And also was stated that the epping 2's had no bench must be lacking numbers!!!!!!!!!!! llmoose or stude what is up with the pingers????

Which club are you stating??? there are 4 teams hopefull of winning it??? 3 of them would count as been close to Mernda??? what are your sources?? which players? Interesting but can't see any club worrying about next year as we still have 2 weeks plus finals to go!!!

I would love to hear were you got your info from?? as i Know a few high up people at whitt and they aren't counting their chickens yet as the past weeks have shown teams are getting closer to them, as Diamo did and Mernda, and Lower will take it up to them this week, Who at mernda would they need in your oppinion to fill the void if there was one??? and who would leave whit??
don't no many players but from reports alot are from their juniors! a few from the lions years back, one from thomo, greensy and hursty, from looking at the list of players on sporting pulse the rest from WFC juniors....

Think you are kidding your self, and I think Whitt deserve the flag as they have been up there for many years! and all up there deserve it!!

every club loses players every year.going up to div 1 will see many players take the easy option and play elsewhere..a move to div 1 would be difficult for any side so recruiting is very important. i also think whittlesea will win and am not surprised if they are all ready eyeing off some potential recruits..thats all im saying:D

Yes well thats fare enough, in your oppinion what type of player/s would whitt need to look at?? key position players or run of the mill? the few games I have seen they have a good stock of talls and also mid size players with several smalls, were do you think they lack? to compete with DIV 1??? thats if they make it!!!!!

Good call L M I D especially if the rumour is true that the NFL made the decision to change the grounds without either the senior coach or president of Mernda being at the meeting.

Yourkidding, I know for a fact that all Whittlesea are looking forward to is Round 17, The word finals has yet to be used as we know better than most after the last couple of years about getting ahead of yourself. We have some terrific Under 17's & 19's coming up over the next couple of years, that is where we will get our players from, not other Division 2 club's as you have been miss informed. As for your final comment in regards to the coach is a dill, We know who the dill is.....

We have been lacking numbers in the magoo's all year and have been filling up with u/19s, but they were at Wats last Saturday so we had to go without.
At the start of the year all players were told if you dont train you will not be playing, so the one's that couldnt or wouldnt train left. We have picked a few new players as the year went on and our results have been a lot better in the second half for the two's.
As for the 1's we have had one game all year were we had a full list of players, that was v Diamo.
Saturday we had 1 player play both games as one of the players in the seniors pulled out around 1pm with gastro.
So the wheels are ok just need to be balanced :D Go Pingers:thumbsu:

I am a little confused by the NFL Results, I don't understand why they have scores listed if the games were a forfeit, another stupid thing is the Mernda reserves teams percentage increased from last week. Maybe Wats should look at a forfeit they would get a better %

I'm sure W.F.C coach is capable of defending himself simply by citing his record. I have never seen a better prepared coach ever. WFC is not big noting or bragging but are quietly confident of performing well in the finals.
As for recruiting they have some exciting youngsters coming through the ranks and the future could not be in better hands.:):club:

Seems there could be a miss communication Dumb Shit sorry Half Whit you must know more than Gypsies101 because according to him no one has mentioned finals at W.F.C yet, but you say the whole club is confident of performing well in finals everyone except Gypsy that is his calender doesn't go passed rd 17 maybe that's just a reflection on his mental state:D either way stop talking shit everyone out there would be chomping at the bit thinking there's a flag going to the end of Plenty Rd.
After choking in finals the last couple of years can you finally get it right on that last Saturday/Sunday? ................................:footy:
