Pickett is BP and King is HBF. Pickett gets the nod over Spud.

I'd probably put Bell as Rover and Boomer FP. Ziebell is out and Thomas is in.

Colbert, Fridge and McCartney are all unlucky omissions.

Agreed. Watch those grand finals again... Can't see Spud getting near Pickett.

Yes, love Spud but Pickett definitely gets the nod.

Zeibell definitely has no business in this team (yet).

Rawlings to be included.

I always rated Ross Smith, very solid quiet achiever. But there isn't room to fit him in.

In: Rawlings
Get rid of: Ziebell

B: David King Mick Martyn Glenn Archer

HB: John Blakey Scott Thompson Byron Pickett

C: Wayne Schwass Adam Simpson Daniel Wells

HF: Shannon Grant Wayne Carey (captain) Craig Sholl

F: Peter Bell John Longmire Corey McKernan

R: Todd Goldstein Anthony Stevens Brent Harvey

I: Drew Petrie Andrew Swallow Brett Allison Jack Ziebell

Team to play a whole season

IN: Firrito Thomas Jones
OUT: Blakey Allison Ziebell

Firrito at his best is a rebounding long kicking bull. Blakey was durable and reliable with similar intercept marking and defensive cover (and better endurance) but put Spud into the talented but hard as nails 90s team and he’d fit right in.

Allison could be damaging but was often the beneficiary of a dominant CHF. LT has created a hell of a lot of chances and goals in our recent sides… working beneath Carey, McKernan, horse etc and alongside explosive types like Grant and Pickett he’d be lethal.

Corey Jones might seem strange but he was tough, versatile and creative. Overhead marking and courage on par with Ziebell and CJ could really have days out in front of goal or even playing as a loose back.

Team to play a grand final

IN: Abraham McAdam Thomas
OUT: Swallow Petrie Allison

Simpson, Stevens, Bell, Ziebell give us enough inside options so Swallow goes out for the match-winning Winnie.

Petrie is a lionheart but we need outright arse to winning a grand final and they don’t come much arsier than Adrian McAdam.

Lindsay replaces Allison for the reasons above.

LOOOOOOOOVE Ross Smith. It felt like he spent the entire 80's decade saving match after match with marks in the backline. Spewing he missed out on a flag.

It's a team for the whole AFL era. Arsey, yes, but McAdam's half a season doesn't do enough for me.

Can you imagine Abraham in the modern game? Good lord. With the amount of space he'd get with modern zones, he'd be unstoppable accross half forward, he was every bit as good as Cyril Rioli.

He'd be in the top half a dozen I pick, he's well infront of Thomas despite what stats say imo, he was a lot like what Higgins gives us currently, but more of a game breaker and far more athletic.

And this is just 1998!

No lub for Winnie  but IUB lub Winnie. :)

i'm with you on winnie, has to be in, played tall, had pace and the skills! don't start me on them, battle between he and Aker as to had the best non preferred that i've seen, glad you had the clip against Collingwood where he ran through the middle and goaled on his left. Absolute freak.

It doesn't happen very often, but Winnie's career is one where you can't really judge it on stats, thanks to that prick Hird, we missed out on a lot of his magic. As good as Rioli is, Winnie could do everything Cyril can plus more, we were just cheated with a shortened career

Oh Hird was it? Grrŕŕr.

There is a forward who at his best was as good as Winnie, Allison and LT combined who hasn't been mentioned.

The problem is his worst was as bad as Kieran Harper 13,14 and 15 combined.

Jon Anderson today rated Collingwood's team of the past 25 years as superior to ours. WTF?? It's got Nick Maxwell in it. Honourable mentions to Monkhorst, Davis, Ben Johnson, Licuria and Crosisca in it.
