Be f'ed if I know why they chose scoresby. But I know south belgrave would've taken the partnership for granted though. Rather focus on cash for height to blow on mercenaries rather than on their future!

Do scoresby have juniors? Dunno if having two junior clubs to be 1 pointers should be allowed but regardless Lysterfield often have a abundance of eastern ranges and interleague players. Huge get .

Scoresby juniors folded a few years back, so this will now be their junior club.

South Belgrave have their own juniors and also have (had) Lysterfield.

It’s an interesting history, they’ve only been going about 15 years, they started with Knox, then SB got hold of them, now it appears Scoresby have.

I guess the alternative is they start their own senior club but I’d say that’s the last thing the region needs (another senior club), though the dickheads at EFNL HQ would love it.

Yep scoresby have no juniors and tight connections with the wolves so this doesn’t surprise me. Always thought the south belgrave thing was a little strange - appeared to be more for the girls.

Unaligned junior clubs are like gold now. Remember going back to my early 20s and h coaching at my old junior club which had essentially been set up by people from the senior club down the road and the committee of the time considering an alignment with an ammo club from the local catholic boys’ school who had let their juniors go - I had a fair bit to say on that I recall!

I heard tonight that Nunawadding has folded and they have joined with Forest Hill. No name change it remains as Forest Hill. I was also informed Norwood promised the Nunawadding players Senior paid games. That’s going to be interesting if that’s true.
That’s big news especially this early in the campaign.

Are you thinking eflreceiver that Nunawading will go into recess and look to reform in 2026 ?

I just listened to the Whitehorse Council, Council Meeting from Monday night. It seems that the ground resurfacing at East Burwood has hit a snag, with an extra $278K required to deal with soil contamination and stabilisation problems of the ground surface at the southern end of the ground. Work was delayed until the variation was passed at Council. It was approved by everyone, except the Councillor for Elgar who voted against the motion as the cost was too high according to him. This is despite the football and cricket clubs he follows at Springfield Park having had new clubrooms, new lighting and approving on the same night, a total of $1.43M for cricket nets and netball courts. The whole lot at a cost of more than $7M.
They are hoping the delay won't effect the completion time.

Have heard the 19s that nunawading have recruited have been training at forest hill the last fortnight.

Shame for Nuna but has felt quite inevitable with how long they’ve been battling to keep their heads above water.

Springfield Park,do you mean Whitehorse Pioneers ground? If so they got new rooms about 7 years ago and most Whitehorse grounds new lighting to their grounds over the last couple of years. The nets for the Kerrimuir Cricket Club needed upgrading and I am OK with that.Seeing you were listening to the meeting perhaps you can update us all on the proposed new ground at Davy Lane.
My understanding is that Davy Lane is a 21m project and they will be looking for 10m from the Federal Government to assist in this happening.

So when did Nunawading fold before?Perhaps you mean "nearly" folded in 2016.They are very close to their centenary year so hopefully they can get there,a club with a long history
I stand corrected and yes I was referring to then. They may not make it to their Centenary, everything is a lot harder now. Unless they can get some of those Dandenong Thunder Sponsors for 2025.

It’s unfortunate but not really surprising. With Nunawading having an exodus and Forest Hill now not having juniors, it’s going to be hard for them to maintain themselves.

Meanwhile the EFL’s answer is to bring in more clubs, good strategy guys.

Norwood are in freefall. Noble Park are a watch… they had reserves shortages last year and have lost a shitload of players. Berwick too, they struggled to field reserves some weeks and will surely already be talking to the SFNL, their move to the east has been a disaster.

Remember the Titans Nunawading Titans that is/was 😊

I'm OK with with the work done at Springfield Park, just the councillor for Elgar who was the only councillor who voted against the extra money required at East Burwood because it was too much, but has been OK with all the money spent at Springfield Rd. If this had not been passed, the ground would not be completed in time for the start of the season.

Davy Lane recommendation was eventually approved. The greenies want the whole area for trees etc. The area really is needed for ovals. The corridor is 2Km long, the vast majority of the corridor would be unaffected. Greenies argued that we already have enough ovals in Whitehorse to cater for all clubs. One even recommended planting an orchard there. While it is a large amount there just aren't enough sports ground now, let alone into the future. The debate on Davy Lane was over about an hour and a half with amendment after amendment made to try and defeat the motion. The whole meeting lasted 2hrs 42m to discuss all the items on the Agenda.

Since the mid 1990’s, 19 schools have closed in Whitehorse. With the sale and redevelopment of the sites has come an increase in Whitehorse’s population and a decrease in recreational facilities.

Whitehorse has lost 21 ovals, along with open space and gymnasiums that were available for community use when these schools closed.

The result of all these closures has been an increase in the school populations of the remaining schools. Increased numbers have compelled the construction of new buildings. Often the only space left for new buildings intrudes onto sports ovals further reducing their availability to be used.

Whitehorse is now short of ovals by not doing anything to retain sports ovals when schools closed.

All the new dwellings constructed on those school sites as well as the redevelopment of the Burwood Brickworks site in Blackburn South, the Australian Tessalated Tile co. site in Mitcham and the construction of a large number of high rise developments throughout Whitehorse have placed significant pressure on sporting and recreational facilities. No new sporting facilities within Whitehorse have been constructed to replace those lost.

The redevelopment of the former Australian Road and Research Board site at 490-500 Burwood Highway, Vermont South, for residential housing will place further demand by Whitehorse residents for sporting and recreation facilities.

In addition to the ovals mentioned there have been another 15 ovals lost.

Halliday Park 1 (closed)

Sparkes Reserve 1 (closed)

Surrey Park 2 (lost due to the baseball field)

Wattle Park 2 (revegetated)

I apologise I did not read your early part of your post properly but $278K seems a lot of money but has to be done.Wonder how much it is costing before this problem and suppose getting rid of the contaminated soil might be why the extra cost is so high.I am surprised EB played on the north oval a long time ago, surely a little small.

Yes I agree that this over development in Whitehorse no thought has been put into sports ovals, open space and new schools etc plus new roads. As you most likely know I have been pushing for Silver Grove to be retained for a junior oval, open space and even netball and basketball courts.I think I am kicking against the wind on that one and council will eventually sell off to high rise development being right next to Nunawading Station.

Have a good xmas and new year and perhaps see you in the new year some where.

I had a talk to a councillor a little while before the elections. I believe there is a very big problem that is preventing the sale of the land for housing (Boral Concrete). You might still have a chance, although I have also made a request about its use once I found out the land couldn't be sold.

Further to this correlate that two of the bigger junior clubs are in Whitehorse, being Blackburn and Vermont. Even with the 2 decks at Morton plus eley park we struggle with logistics for all our sides and imagine Vermont worse given they have terrara rd and livingstone (which of course is a school). Mitcham growing and only have a ground plus a share at Koonung which might be better if the lions are (sadly) gone. It’s a kids’ ground anyway!

Davy lane should happen and then the zebs move there. This could free up Fraser place for generic open space or even more housing. Vermont juniors (or mitcham) get the smaller ground.

Whitehorse pioneers I reckon should look at a combination with box hill north - close to one another and then st frannies’ colts would have senior sides all the way through to vets. Use Springfield for kids and girls and have the seniors up at Elgar.

Likewise. Nuna and eley park join and consider either playing out of Whitehorse reserve (Eley park’s ground) or even Koonung lower (if they built sheds there). Always thought Koonung bottom way better than top!
Likewise as I have said before get east burwood north going again too (or a genuine 2nd ground included as part of any revamp of that precinct)

That may help in some way…

Zeb's won't be going there. Smaller rooms, limited parking and a no alcohol licence apparently. Vermont want to park their junior footy players there. Vermont and Vermont Sth want the grounds for cricket (at least they were the clubs who spoke in favour of the development). I do have a small problem with Vermont CC using the ground as they won't be playing against ANY Whitehorse Clubs at all (there was discussion about Ringwood clubs using Heatherdale's ground, contributing to the shortage). Heatherdale CC don't play against ANY Whitehorse Clubs either. Not much mention of the 2 clubs who are playing on grounds outside Whitehorse.

Simpson Park should be the next development. Even though it has been used for over 60 years as a sports field, dog owners seem to have assumed they are entitled to have sole right to it.

The East Burwood North ground will be revamped with the East Burwood Reserve redevelopment. It am assuming it will be made level as well. Old clubrooms will be demolished.

Can anyone explain to me the whole Nunawading Titans thing? I never did get what happened there.

Soccer is always expanding and needs grounds. There are some clubs out there with 50-60 junior teams (there’s less clubs than footy, but still).

AFL has enormous junior growth goals over the next ten years - they might not get there but will have a crack.

Melbourne’s population has gone from 3 million to 5 million plus in the last 30 years. As always our politicians bring people flooding in with no plans in terms of housing, services or public facilities like parks and ovals.

Lot of ground shortages.

I can foresee a lot more ground sharing, if your ground isn’t being used both Saturday and Sunday every week then it’s a possibility.

Heard another story recently, apparently Rowville are in need of facilities upgrade but without a women’s team have been told don’t bother lobbying or applying because there’s zero chance you’ll get it.

The club was 'taken over' by a number of individuals from outside the club and they thought a rebrand and a few other initiatives would save the day. Unfortunately this was not the case with many of the diehards rejecting the plan and walking away from the club. Those involved in the rebrand didn't last long and moved on thus resulting in a call out at the time to get the diehards back to try and save the club from extinction.

The club has been on the precipice numerous times and this time has fallen over. The surrounding area in North Blackburn is full of clubs, has an older demographic and a significant asian population this resulting in playing numbers being problematic.

Forest Hill are in not much better state with low player numbers, the junior club going into recess and having to appoint a home grown player as coach in 2024 after not being able to find suitable applicants. I am not sure any merge with Nunawading will be of benefit to them as I cannot see too many players crossing over.

Unfortunately this could be the start of some clubs heading towards recess as there are there are many across the league that are doing it tough and could be considered vulnerable in regards to their future existence.

Makes it a bit hard to recruit a women's team without any facilities.

Thanks for that. I live in the area and it's disappointing to see these clubs falling over, but you're right that there's far too many too close to each other.
