People like Ray Hadley don't want the game to succeed in Melbourne...why do you?

Ray Hadley is a :D:D:D:Der... How and Why the NRL give Him and his idiots the exclusive rights is beyond me...
Melbourne has zero support... No one wanted them and no one was helping them... This year is the first year money is being pumped into Melbounre... This year see's International Rugby League and State Of Origin hit Melbourne. 26 milliion will be pumped into them over the next few years! I wish them all the best!!! If the Melbourne Storm were to get half the money and concessions the Swans and Lions have got over the years, mate they would be a lot bigger then what they are now.

Don't News Ltd prop them up every year to cover their losses to the tune of millions of dollars?

Brisbane and Sydney never had that sort of support.

Are you telling me Sydney Swans and Brisbane Bears weren't making loses in there first 10 or so years???? Come on, 5 thousand at the GOld Coast was hardly going to get the Bears a profit.
Didn't sydney lose money last year? The AFL prop them up... the NRL which is 50% News Limited prop up the Storm.
In terms of advertising, television coverage and newspaper coverage everyone has let the Storm down!!!!! In terms of Junior RL the NRL/ARL have badly neglected the VRL!!!!
Do Melbourne get salary cap concessions???? I don't think so...

didnt you know. its all about the crowds. apparently.
NO as I said its about politics nothing to do with crowds.
If that was the case the Storm could play at a ground half as big as the current OP at least they would fill it sometimes LOL

Mate ONE MONTH ago the ARL announced that over 25,000 tickets had been sold to that game in Melbourne with zero promotion!!! The game is still 2 or so months away... I'm guessing well over 30,000 have been sold now and it will easily sell out.
The Greek v Australia soccer game SOLD OUT IN TWO HOURS.
25,000 is only one quarter of the MCGs capacity so they better start promoting the game fast.

And Melbourne people say Sydneysiders are arrogant!

I just think the typical Victorian or should I say Melbournite is isolated, sheltered, paranoid and two face. Example with the comments "We are the shiznitz when it comes to "watching sport" but then in the same sentence see the NRL as a threat!! Beats me..if you are going to claim to be the "sporting capiltal of the world" (laughable and only something stupid thick headed Victorians would claim) then that means a tolerance and love of all sports, not just friggen AFL. Remember knuckleheads, afl is only played here. But i suppose in the past 10 years Australians think the world revolves around us.

And plus who said that being the capital of sports watching morons is a good thing? Its like claiming the title of "nation that watches most TV" its just embarrassing and pathetic. If every single person played sport..then yes, but not when 3/4 of slobs watch sport on tv.

You suckers just dont get it do you ??
We Victorians wont watch S*** sports and thugby is just that.

Soccer has been in Melbourne for how long??? Soccer probably has more juniors in Victoria then AFL. No surprise mate... The Rugby League is at the Telstra Dome, so 50% of the ticket's were snapped up A MONTH AGO.

Agreed... Thugby or Rugby is crap.
Rugby League however is the Greatest Game Of All!!!

Aren't you sane enough to give at least a fair comparison?

NSW v QLD. In Victoria.

25,000 is great, 2 months before the game.

They will easily sell out.

I'm still wondering how any times ASIO has raided your house in the last few weeks with comments like that.................and your name.

They certainly weren't propped up to the extent that the Storm are.
Sydney were actually charged extra for a licence fee espite not actually leaving the league. If you had any idea of the financial circumstances of the VFL in the 80's you'd know that they didn't have the money to prop up anyone.

Didn't sydney lose money last year? The AFL prop them up... the NRL which is 50% News Limited prop up the Storm.

Now you're just talking s**t. How do the AFL prop up the Swans? And no, they didn't lose money last year.

In terms of advertising, television coverage and newspaper coverage everyone has let the Storm down!!!!! In terms of Junior RL the NRL/ARL have badly neglected the VRL!!!!

What are they going to do, hold a gun to kids heads and make them play RL? If anything, given their lack of popularity the Storm seem to get a pretty good deal in the media.

Do Melbourne get salary cap concessions???? I don't think so...

So what? They get a s**tload of News Ltd cash.

Yep, and Melbourne will confirm it's status as the "one-off" sporting event capital of the world.

Yeah my best mates are from ASIO :thumbsu:
Mate if anyone is more of a target of terrorists it's anyone in the LebaneseForces who had the balls to fight against them (Terrorists)for years while the whole world watched and laughed... Now it's happening to them.

Rugby league state of origin is a huge event. A lot of people who don't go to club games will jump on board, and it gets massive TV ratings. (Because they play it on a weeknight when there's no clash with AFL, I'll watch it).
They'll probably go close to selling it out at Docklands. About 10 years ago they got over 80,000 to an Origin game at the MCG, and even though they didn't get a crowd that size again they didn't get bad crowds for the next couple of years.
Once the event gets a bit closer and gets some publicity, the rest of the tickets will sell quickly.

You can't compare it to the Australia v Greece soccer international. Unfortunately the Australian fans will be massively outnumbered there.

This is actually not a conspiracy.

Crikey and Bergerac have it all wrong. If they did their homework they would find the cash being dished out to the AFL far outways anything given to the league boys.

The 20 or so million in question is only 20% of the overall figure granted to the AFL over three years and was always a 50-50 proposition. In any case, the TV rights cash would always make up the slack anyway Her-Sun Feb 18.

The NRL dollars are both for Melbourne Victory and the Storm over 3 years ans also include junior development, which makes this figure seem insignificant compared to AFL.

Come on lads, we love AFL but give the other boys a go!!
