Hi Johnny, It's Cash Backman here from TTU. I've been watching this forum for a while now without comment but feel compelled to speak up. Firstly, you don't win league goal kicking awards with no talent so give yourself some credit. In my own humble opinion, you are a good player, and a gentlemen to boot. I have a lot of respect for both you mate and your team and wish you all well. Secondly, it would appear that this site has been overrun with halfwitt comments and negative trash talk, which is sad because it used to make interesting reading. My advice, for what it's worth, to all the logical people who read this, is to take control back, ignore the idiots who post crap and make a return to health debate about the clubs and league we ALL love. Cheers.

Cheers Cash, appreciate the support.

On to the more important issues in your post, I think this forum is really important in generating some interest in the league, whilst also keeping people up to date with what is happening. There is an obvious gap in information between the sides down my way (Sale City, Boisdale Briag, Stratford, Heyfield, Rosedale) and the clubs from down the valley (TTU, Gormy, Glen, possibly Churchill). Not a lot of people involved in the clubs listed in the first group mentioned seem to know a lot about the other group's clubs. Again, because we only get to see them once or twice a year. This forum is very helpful for everyone to be kept up to date with what is happening and also having the chance to offer up opinions.

Good to see the man who is going to take the reigns as NGFL 2nds leading goal kicker is a Bigfooty follower as well.

agreed, you need some skill to win 2nds goal kicking...

In news around here Mitch Dowse played in a school football match yesterday and absolutly dominated the game. he ended with 35 touches (25 of which came in the 2nd half), 2 goals 3, 7 marks, 6 tackles and 6 running bounces..

what are people opinion on him playing AFL?

I think he might be a chance for a rookie list position as a run with player. Every club needs this and he is super super fit and fast. The best thing about him if he was to get drafted and turned into this sort of player is unlike other run with players he loves a goal, which shows an offensive side to a defensive position. Very important...

All right lets talk footy.... Rd 9 looking to test a few clubs abilities this week...
Firstly
Sale City Vs Bois/Briag - Sale City could be looking down the barrel of another defeat making that 3 in a row, with Bois/Briag being a force to be reckon with & shouldn't be taken lightly this club is serious about playing finals this year....
Secondly
Rosedale Vs Stratford - This could be the win Stratford are chasing & really Rosedale haven't been stand outs this season. They are just doing enough to get the wins on the board... My prediction is Stratford...
Thirdly
Woodside Vs Churchill - Tough call this game with both clubs being in great form. I would say Woodside could have the upper hand with Churchill coming off the bye...

With TTU vs Heyfield & Cowwarr Vs Gormandale i would like to think going off Heyfield's form that they will take the 4 points & after watching Cowwarr last week it should be an easy win to Gormandale.... Gormandale has finally got that much needed few wins on the board so they are going to be hungry for more....

Your Thoughts???

Good breakdown there Roogirl. 3 weeks ago, I would have thought very differently about a few of these games. I would have had Sale City vs Boisdale as the match of the round, and expected it to be a close encounter with a view to the finals. Since then, Sale City has been off the boil, and appear to have proved a few of the posters on this forum right by potentially showing that they aren't as close to success as what some would have you believe. On the other hand, this is a chance for them to bounce back from a couple of disappointing weeks with a victory against a finals bound side. Andrew Geischen and the boys at BB are really flying. If not for the slip up in Round 1 against Rosedale, they would be sitting equal top of the ladder and would not look out of place there, as they have defeated Heyfield and Woodside, who at this stage appear to be the league's 2 form sides.

Stratford vs Rosedale would be a much more interesting prospect if Stratford had have defeated Cowwarr and TTU in the last 2 weeks. Whether or not they are better sides than either of those 2 is not for me to decide, however, they had plenty of chances to win both games. As for Rosedale, they have a very similar side to the one that knocked on the door of finals last year, and I see no reason why they shouldn't continue their improved form. Some might ask, what improved form? However, the last month has bought a win against Glen, a close loss to last year's premiers, a bye and after leading Woody by 6 goals at halftime, a narrow loss to the current ladder leaders. As much as I hate to say this, this appears to be a battle of sides heading in opposite directions of the form line with Stratty suffering a slight slump in recent times, and Rosedale apparently on the improve. Hopefully the Swans can recapture some of their early season form and this could turn out to be a very close battle which is decided by less than a kick.

Undoubtedly, the match of the round is Churchill vs Woody, the premiers and the side plenty are tipping to challenge for their crown. Will be a great indication as to whether Churchill have dropped off, or just how legitimate a challenger Woodside are. One couldn't help but be inspired when playing under the leadership of Travis Ronaldson, and having big Staley marking everything that comes his way wouldn't hurt either. I will be very interested to see the outcome of this game.

Gormy vs Cowwarr should be a formality with Gormy appearing to be starting to hit some form.

Although I liked a lot of what I saw from TTU on the weekend, I would expect Heyfield to take the points here. TTU have some fleet footed midfielders who may just about be able to match the Heyfield ball magnets, however, the battle should come down to which forward line is capable of finishing the job better, and I would expect the class Heyfield forwards to win this battle handsomely.

Having said that, each week the league has thrown up an upset, and who knows who it might be this week.

all sounds about right. just not sure about the gormy cowaar game. stu the roo said it 2 the boys last week and im saying it here....cowaar cannot be underestimated, all year they hav been competitive in their games, just as they wer against heyfield on the weekend for the first 3 quarters. i wuldnt b writing them off just yet, shuld b a good game. hopefully some more big flyers from the stasinowski!

Yes Mayhem everyone likes seeing an upset... Specially a team in the top 5. I just wonder tho about TTU i know you said you liked what you saw from them on saturday but there going to have to pull something pretty special to out play & beat the Heyfield outfit... Heyfield has some pretty big ins this week in Luc Wilson & Josh Neille just to name a few & after Willos performance against Sale City he's only going to add the depth Heyfield require to shutting down TTUs forwards down.

Woodside at home is going to be the advantage against Churchill this weekend, in my opinion a poor quality ground might bring the cougars unstuck, but never doubt the power of Leigh McDonald. He is a legend in my book after watching him turn that grand final game around to beat that strong outfit of Gormandale anything is possible. But Woodside have recuited well this year in Travis Ronaldson & everything so far in 2009 is going his way.

I'm still not wiping Stratty off yet, the team has the talent in Tim Light, Gavin Bickery, the Nicholls Brothers. They just need to play 4 good quarters of football & no doubt Hendo is working the boys in that direction. I can't really comment much on Rosedale as i haven't really been taking much notice of them. But i would like to see Stratty get up & take the 4 points this weekend...

Sorry but i think Sale Citys over-rated & Bois/Briag will easily run away with the 4 points, but after saying that Sale City will probably prove me wrong & i will have to eat my words... Either way both teams have a lot to prove if they think they are premiership contenders...

agreed mitchell is an amazingly talented athlete and footballer, but his explosiveness, long kicking and his ability to play tall and take big grabs would possibly be wasted if he were to be used as a tagger?? just a thought. he'd still shut down any bloke he played on though!

he is far to attacking minded to play as a tagger. he could use his massive tank to outrun taggers. however if he was a tagger it would greatly help his team because someone would be tagging him ha, so it would effectivly mean he was double teamed..but he would probably still win his fair share of the ball

very aggressive and attacking player...has improved his skill which was a downfall in his game especially his kicks for goal but he looks the complete player more and more each time he takes another step in his deveolopment...he has the explosiveness to take on a game and lead a team by example everyone that knows him wishes him all the best and to continue to play his own game and good things will happen to him for sure!!!!

The problem is there are probably ten mitch dowses out there, and blokes who are taller and more adaptable. You are right in what you say but because of his superior engine his best chance of getting drafted is as a tagger. No shame in that

Mitch Dowse is obviously a good player. he definately has improved his field kicking. To think of the players who have been drafted or close to, you would think he would be a chance. To play such good footy in a mens league at that age and with his physique, surely this means something....imo

not saying there is shame in it, but the to get fit is far easier then to read the play, take contested marks, put your head over the ball, sprint as fast as he does, kick as he does.. i also think that his natural ability (sprint speed, leap, agility ect) more then make up for his lack of height. i think it's may be to hard for him to adapt to focusing his attention on a man rather then the ball

Thought Mcdonald would be in and i'm also assuming the only reason bickery is out is because he is also injured. pretty good job though

I've seen Gormy 3 times this year, and if i had a vote card, would have given 3 votes to Daniel Domaille in each game. Would be leading the B & F at Gormy by a mile. Doesn't have the big name reputation of some of the other midfielders of the league, but on current form would be in the top 5 midfielders in the NGFL.

Another week down in NGFL, another upset. Cowwarr defeating Gormy, I doubt whether many would have tipped that result. The league is throwing up some beauties this season.

Maybe current form would suggest Anderson, L.Mcdonald, Plozza, Emery, Dowse, Stockdale, Kelly, Wellins, Jansz, Cahill, Brighton and Domaille would be the premier midfielders.

My top five in no order would be:
Anderson
Mcdonald
Stockdale
Emery
Wellins

Good to see the Woodland Boys (Kodie and Jack) have a crack this week, the combined statistics for the boys this week was as follows:

Kicks: 79
Handballs: 19
Goals:5
Marks: 24
Tackles: 21
