Ricky Mott - Missed a shot near the end of a game vs the Bombers from about 25m out straight in front to win it, dont think he played much after that and went to Carlton the next year.
Was about 200kg playing WA country footy last I heard: Google 'media watch ricky mott' for a good larf at the Age.

Arnott is involved (coach?) of Wesley in VAFA footy.

Haven't gone through all 27 pages...

Alan Thorpe - traded from the Dogs to the Blues in the mid-1990s. Destroyed them in an Ansett Cup game by scoring I believe an easy half dozen on debut. Couldn't manage a game much there after and was delisted after a year or two. I remember bragging to my Dogs friends after the preseason game. They laughed and called him a preseason king and that we needed to wait for the real stuff. Sure enough. Anyone know what happened to him?

He's on Marngrook! Never even knew he was an ex-player.

Alan Thorpe, of an indigenous background, was drafted by the Blues in the 1995 Pre-Season Draft but was never selected to play a senior game. despite kicking 6 goals against Richmond, and taking a screamer in a Pre-Season Match over club captain Stephen Kernahan.

He had earlier played with Fitzroy, Sydney and Footscray, kicking a total of 28 goals in 15 games.

Later a panellist on the "Marngrook Football Show" (Chan 31). He is also involved with the indigenous football club Fitzroy Stars which is based at Fitzroy FC club's spiritual home in Brunswick Street Nth Fitzroy.

Thorpe was originally recruited from Tatura.

Didn't realize he was indigenous (is blonde) nor that he was on the show (I've only ever seen the YouTube Carlton interviews).

I'll see what I can come up with -

Ian Downsbrough - Had a trading card of this guy I think was made before Port even played a game, was just a shot of him at training holding a footy
Matthew Liptak - Tough HFF
Andrew McGovern - Nuggetty defender
David Mensch - Big unit
Digby Morrell - lol Diggers
Daniel Parker - epitomised early Freo
Stefan Carey - queer Sydney version of Wayne Carey

Does anyone know what happened to Ricky Mott? He missed a set shot in front of the sticks after the siren for us in the early noughties I think, either against Brisbane or Essendon, was reportedly quite lazy and loved a ***, was gone the next year.

look on the previous page. :p

lenny clark (brisbane)
paul kolouritis (spelled it wrong, i know it) (geelong/port?)
salim hassan (was on an afl list at one stage, i swear)
ben hollands (richmond)
james ezard (port)
adam richardson (crows)
evan hewitt (crows)
stuart bown (crows)
ben haynes (richmond)
mark dragicevic (richmond)
patrick steinfort (richmond)
jacob schuback (adelaide)

all bar hewitt and bown have played for west adelaide

some more:

ben nelson (crows)
david gallagher (crows/carlton)
ezra poyas (melbourne/richmond)

ben haynes in particular i remember. enjoyed getting 30 touches and doing absolutely nothing with them at westies.

Ben Nelson also played for Carlton. His father was a superstar for Sturt, Philip 'Sandy' Nelson. In fact, Nelly played his first game for the Blues in the infamous M&M's game which had us in Sturt blue.

He was actually traded for the player you listed next, David Gallagher.

I remember Poyas, had quite a fan base at one point. I can't recall why but they all thought he was going to be a star. Go figure.

As far as Salim Hasaan, former teammate of Aaron Davey http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/12/19/1071337158554.html was on the Port Adelaide rookie list.

cant believe i missed that :D

ben was a star in his own right for sturt. played in their premiership in 02 i believe.

that reminds me of more players

simon feast (sydney)
damian squire (port)
matthew dent (fitzroy/western bulldogs/hawthorn)
barnaby french (carlton/port)

He was one of my faves for his era. Was bitterly disappointed when we traded him. Wasn't a star at the AFL level but a good, honest player who gave his all. Then the second we found out the player we got in exchange for him I was further gutted.

Andrew Eccles and David Gallagher for Kris Massie and Ben Nelson. Ugh!

Re: The 'obscure footballers of the 1990s' thread.

Greg Anderson: he went on to Coach South Adelaide for a while only a season or 2 back. He didnt do too well.

Matty Liptak: last time I saw him he was working as a Doctor at Flinders Medical Centre, smart guy- rare for a footy player

I always wondered what happened to McAdam who was an opportunist forward for North (say about 1993)

Might have been answered already but Adrian moved back to Alice Springs. I played cricket against him in 99, 00 and 01. Don;t know that he had the temperement for AFL footy.

Re: The 'obscure footballers of the 1990s' thread.

Matthew Liptak - the sheilas loved him. Actually captained the Crows at one point IIRC, yet I don't think he played many games, maybe seven or eight seasons. I know injuries plagued him.

he also graduated from flinders uni medical school during his AFL career, and is now an orthopaedic surgeon...

Re: The 'obscure footballers of the 1990s' thread.

Anyone remember Fremantle's Clayton Collard?

Debuted in 2008 or something. Played pretty well, kicked a goal. Aboriginal kid with blonde hair. Was delisted last year, I think.

Re: The 'obscure footballers of the 1990s' thread.

Haven't read all the pages but saw Jeff Hogg's name mentioned earlier on.
He was doing hearing and sight tests at my work the other week. Still looked quite fit and seemed a nice enough bloke.

Delisted after one year (2007 from memory), spent the following year on Richmond's rookie list. I think he was at Peel Thunder last year. No idea where he is now.
