Coach Off Season changes 2024/25

MELBOURNE has approached former Carlton senior coach David Teague about a spot on its coaching panel for 2025.

Nathan Bassett has also been linked to a role in Melbourne’s coaching panel, where he would reunite with former Adelaide teammate Goodwin

Hearing it might be Todd Curley that comes in.

I don’t mind it if the guys within the AFL system are all out of the picture tbh. He’s been in the system before as an assistant (for us) but stepped away from coaching for personal reasons. That was years ago but has done a lot of coaching at WAFL level since.

Though wouldn’t mind having graham take over the backs, and Teague take the forward line.
Yea this was exactly what I was thinking .
Helps in “rounding out” graham’s experience too

Teagues been well regarded for his ability to coach an AFL forward line

Alas looks like Melbourne getting the jump in (probs replacing mcquarter)

I fully get it , been over it plenty times before - we’re ridiculously hamstrung when it comes to AFL assistants (honestly it’s one of the biggest competitive disadvantages the 2 wa sides have ) but seriously are we even trying?

Just absolutely hearing nothing from the club on this issue and I think it’s a massive one for us .
It’s actually infuriating
- is the club genuinely trying to improve or too busy pumping out feel good stories on all these players we’re supposed to get?

We lose Carr- we simply shuffle deck chairs and promote Corey
We lose Boyd and looks like we’re simply bringing Curley back into the fold (don’t get me wrong I like Curley as a coach but we desperately need to be getting some genuine AFL assistants from other systems on top of him)

It seems as we lose people we simply promote from within (or go the budget route and get progressively worse and worse

I kinda wished we sounded out simmo

Think Curley would bring a toughness to the coaching panel. He doesn’t suffer players being selfish or not being team orientated.
While he calmed a bit in his last year at Souths he can give a spray.

YOUNG DOCKERS WAIT
FREMANTLE is likely to retain out-of-contract ruckman Max Knobel after several promising WAFL performances in 2024, with fellow big man Odin Jones waiting on the club to finalise its trade plans before his immediate future takes shape.

Knobel, who has completed two seasons with Fremantle, and first-year rookie Jones sit behind hardened trio Sean Darcy, Luke Jackson and Liam Reidy in a deep ruck department.

Like many out-of-contract players during trade period, they are now waiting on the Dockers to finalise other priorities before attention turns to final senior and rookie list spots.

Knobel should be retained for a third season, however, after playing a block of four senior WAFL games late in the season and impressing when opportunities opened behind Reidy.

Medium forward Tom Emmett is the only other Docker waiting on a deal for 2025 but has been favoured by Liam Baker's decision to nominate West Coast as his preferred home in 2025.

Delisted key forward Matt Taberner remains open to an AFL lifeline as he weighs up offers to play in the WAFL next season. – Nathan Schmook

Seriously have no idea why we are waiting for trade period to be over before signing up Knobel, he looks like he’ll overtake Reidy by this time next year.

Yeah it sounded like people are locked in but the announcements are waiting for appropriate timing.

Wish we didn’t have to wait. But from a marketing perspective it makes sense.

Woosh getting appointed is the reverse. Need him to convince supporters and trade targets they won’t be a basket case next year.

On Bells comments from earlier - does the 'key' football department staff seem to indicate it could be more than just an assistant? Not that they aren't important, just seems like maybe there's a bigger name or bigger role being brought in?

(Simpson?)

We lost Murhpy as well. So 2 people to come in.

We've done this before but I imagine a basketball background has more transferable skills than a hockey one.

Not sure whether it's better than water polo though.
We have, never saw much of what Charlesworth brought to the team, always seemed he was too busy with all his other engagements.

I suspect Martin will be far more all in and a real benefit to the team. He is such a leader and scrapper hope he can instill that into this team.

Plus Martin can dunk so it's not just fundamentals.

There ain't no video on YouTube of Charlesworth getting close to the rim.
