Remembering free agency goes for a month, and 6 teams are still playing football, I wouldn't expect anything until the Free Agency actually begins which is early October isn't it? Wouldn't be getting to worried. We'll pick up some role players, and then like last year we'll make a sudden swoop at a star Mitch Clark style.

Not sure we're as attractive as we were last year.

We won 8 and a 1/2 games as the 2nd youngest team in the comp last year.

We won 4 games this year.

I struggle to see a 'star' coming to us.

That's the pertinent point. Collingwood's position is solely dependent on whether Cloke stays or goes. And the same applies to Goddard and his potential suitor. There will definitely be some fallout as a result of salary cap issues.

Don't see why we shouldn't go after - and offer pick 12 (plus Petterd) for - Caddy. He's basically a draft pick with two years experience.

Caddy is overated personified. heard he finished 19th or so in the GC BaF after playing every game? i would be skeptical about offering pick 25 for him.

We don't have the salary cap advantage that those clubs have.

Technically we do

With Moloney departing, and most possibly Davey as well, and perhaps Rivers, we are going to struggle to pay the minimum 95%

Why do you think we offered $500k p/a to MacKay from the Crows? A player most outside of Adelaide have never heard of?

Have a feeling we will use early picks for both Martin and Hogan in the mini draft. Maybe pick 12 for C Young (Haw) and 1 of there picks. And very active on free agency senior players which are available to fill gaps while our young players mature more.

we don't have to give anything for young, he's a free agent

Grab Shannon Byrnes for sure, add alot more experience into our side & help out the young ones and get them playing some solid footy throughout the next few year's, chris knights also would be a good solution for our forward line problems, and also caddy since essendon wont be able to grab him since there draft pick will go with there father son rule!

I thought his attraction was that he did not need to continue developing, and has been labelled a man child?

He has a decent build so that made him a decent junior who can play seniors now (unlike say Gysberts), so I think by the time he is 24 he will be able to really impose himself physically at AFL as well.

The fact I think he has skills and can makes good decisions means I think he will be a very good player when he reaches his peak playing age at 24 - 29.

Rivers just wouldn't fit our current squad. We're in long-term transition to hopefully be competitive again in 2015 or so. Why get a bloke who will be coming up for retirement just as we're entering our next window (assuming everything goes to plan)?

I'd definitely take Gysberts though. If you guys lost Rivers would you be interested in Gillies? That 3rd tall spot is really his role and he needs a full season at AFL level to see if he can make it. I can easily see him being a 150+ game player if given the chance but then again there's a good chance he could spud it up and be delisted in the next 2 years.

If Gysberts is available (which seems unlikely given Neeld's recent comments), something like Gillies + our 2nd rounder for Gysberts?

The last thing we need is a 3rd tall at either of the ground, we need players with pace and skill who can play mid/fwd and help us become more offensive and spread around the ground.

A lot of man- children ( ) dominate juniors (a la Jones) but struggle to make the immediate transition to seniors.

I use Jones as an example. In junior footy he would break tackles, and brush people aside. He tried to continue to take the tackler on in the seniors and found the transition hard, as his opponents were now as big as he is

Jones has adapted his game

I'm sure Caddy can too

Still, he's done nothing to show he will be elite though

It's important to note that while players may seem 'big' the reality is that they don't start to peak, in terms of strength, until they are 23+ years old.

They may be 'man children' - but all that means is that they're better equipped than other kids to come into AFL footy, not that they can match the older guys instantly.

I think Caddy has the traits of an elite footballer, but certainly he hasn't performed anywhere near as regularly as you'd hope.

Does anyone remember how much Ben Cunnington struggled in his first 1 and a half seasons. He was a man child and now he has established himself in the Kangaroos Midfield because he has learnt how to use his body and impose himself on contests. Just because they have they body for AFL doesn't meet they will cope with the rigours of AFL football day dot.

Also we have to remember the emotional burden, I am not aware of Caddy's ability to cope with his fathers illness but for any young man, it would be a highly testing period mentally and emotionally.

Not doubting that, but if it was so strong, surely he would've been open to being traded to any number of Vic clubs last year????
