Assume you meant 4th round... still no. Prismall can't get on the park, to say the least.
Yeah I meant forth round. whoops. LOL.

I don't really rate him either, I just wanted to know what you thought of the apparent 'rumor'

If we are trading Martin as essentially a direct swap for Pederson, I would think that's a bad trade for us. We've invested a lot of time in Martin and he has shown he has talent, particulalry in 2011, plus he is about to enter his prime as a ruckman. There must be more to this behind the scenes or it seems a very odd decision to trade him for a VFL player who may not regularly play in the firsts

Am I the only one thinking it is not a great move to get rid of Martin and Gysberts for Peterson and Ray?

I think Stef leaving isn't a huge loss considering how Neeld wants to play - however he's a pretty good player.

Gysberts leaving for almost nothing would disgust me.

Rumours on Gysberts and Martin have persisted, well before trade season

There surely has to be something to it?

Attitude? Clash with coach? Or simply the coaches don't rate them?

Who knows.

Clearly Neeld want's 100% committment and buy in. Reports in preseason about Gys' attitude and work ethic, and if the rumour mills are to be believed he may be traded out cheap. Smoke and fire

What are the rumors about Martin?

I went to a few training session during last pre season and they were always trying to push Blease and Giz.

By all accounts Blease has taken that on and pushed himself where as Giz hasn't

Martin is a fantastic trainer just dont think he takes it onto the ground and lacks the polish I think the coaching staff feel he has but doesnt show.

A new home might be the thing Martin needs and you can only whip a horse so much (Giz) he might twig when he gets to another club and see's how hard the leaders train .. dont think he has had the leaders he needed.

Good thing is that we have really got rid of the rot (players who are in the old bracket) but they havent shown leadership.

Getting players in that will drive results has been a good thing

If Gys is traded it will go down as a blunder like Hawthorn trading Josh Kennedy.

In a team of about 40 players, not everyone is going to come in with the same personalities and work ethic. If the coach is giving up on a highly rated 21 year old after one season then I would be questioning his abillity to look after 40 differnent individuals. I understand you need to create an enviroment of hard work for the young guys to come in and look up to, for me Gys is still one of those young guys.

If these work ethic rumors are true, I hope Neeld doesn't intend on trading him but letting these trade rumors go around to give him a wake up call. Then reassess after next season.

I've spoken to Gys as have some family members who are sponsoring him. He's happy to stay at the Dee's but not sure Neeld wants him. Was pretty disappointed when Neeld picked Tynan over him in the final round.

If we trade gysberts for 28 then essentially we would;

Gain:
Pederson, Ray, pick 28

Lose:
Martin, Gysberts, picks 33 and 49

No issues with trading Martin, he is a strange one in the sense we know he can play good footy at AFL, he is still raw and bit unorthodox the way he plays the game and has only played his best footy as the lead ruckmen. I feel Pederson is a more natural footballer.

Gysberts is a touch one, we know he has talent but does he have the desire. For mine he needs to be traded for him personally to get the best out of himself. It is a tough call becuase i have no doubt placed in another environment he could thrive, whether he can do the same at melbourne is unknown.

Ray for 49 is a good trade IMO, it would be unlikely we could find a player with his talent at 49 and also he is ready made and come from somewhat successful environments in WB and the saints.

If all as above falls into place we effectively have,

Gained:
Byrnes, Viney, Dawes, Hogan, Barry, Pederson, Ray, pick 28, pick 58
Allocated pick 4 (Wines?)

Lost:
Moloney, Rivers, Gysberts, Martin pick 3, 13, 20, 45

May have missed a couple of things, but still i would be very happy with that outcome particularly with how the club stated that would be active in trade/free agency month.

Ive said all along, there are only maybe 8 players on our list that are truly untouchable. We have too many players who have struggled to take that next step, struggled with the new coaching staff or simply aren't good enough. We have been a sh*t team onfield for too long, and I trust Neeld and co. with any changes to our list.

Personally, yeah, I'd be a little upset to see Gys go. He looks like if he put in a couple of good pre seasons and had a good run with injury, he could become a good to great midfielder. Wouldn't want to let him go for a 2nd round pick. But again, if Neeld doesn't rate his work ethic, maybe a 2nd round pick is a good exchange, where we can forward on for Ray.

As far as Martin goes, I'm happy to see him go. He's handy, but no more. Yes, he's played some good games for us, but he's wasted space down forward. I'd rather see us give more games to Fitz and Gawn when fit. Clark is there for back up also if required, and it looks like we still might get Pederson who can ruck also.

I think this trade period has been great for the club. We might have paid overs for Dawes, but we were desperate for a full forward. Hogan by all reports will be a very good player. Viney we all know will be a leader of this club. Byrnes is handy and fills a need. Barry I don't know much about but looks like he's quick and has some skill. With pick 4(Olly Wines?) and possibly adding Ray and Pederson to our list, I feel we have done very well. Moloney isn't a loss IMO. Rivers is a loss, however with TMac stepping up, and Watts playing back, we should have him covered.

I don't understand the concept of trading players because they aren't sure about their work ethic? If this coaching staff doesn't back itself to instill the right frame of mind into these players then I'd be extremely concerned about them going forward.

It doesn't make sense to give up on talent because you don't back yourself to change them, it's a piss-weak step by Neeld and co.

Maybe the players don't fit into their structure or they aren't talented or important enough to bother dealing with their work ethic.

Boys , sorry to intrude but iv been reading many thoughts on Giz , I know we have interests in him and would like the pros and cons ....pace / endurance/ ability in the air etc any thing really would be appreciated ....and is the 28 about right for him ? Thanx guys Dash.

An absolute joke that we are trading Martin for Pick 33. I'll go on record to say that whoever we get with that pick will not outperform Martin at Brisbane.
