Friday nights will be a bore - Richmond, Collingwood, Geelong or the Dogs each week

How does Melbourne get more (3) Friday night games than GWS (2)

I think they might have missed the boat on their 'equalisation' objective here...

Also, can we stop using one of our limited requests on the Indigenous round match, don't get me wrong, love the round. However, to use one of a couple of requests on it? The request needs to be a standalone game in that round, a Thursday/Friday/Saturday night in that round.

The round goes for 3 weeks anyway. Everyone just does the ceremony and jumper the week before or the week after if they don't get it at home. We play Melbourne in the NT the week prior, we'll probably do something for that game as well. It's covered and if it happens a week early or a week later it is what it is.

Small club, Port have used their big request to lock down ANZAC round (on the day), Saturday night, probably channel 7.

We're probably not getting Saturday nights marquee game from Richmond and Essendon, not that they should own it, but let's lock down Friday night, even a Thursday night, every year.

We've used our request on a 4 pm twilight game on Foxtel.
We also no longer have the most flashy indigenous player in the game on our team anymore.... we could have used our request for something that would better suit us.

Real lack of prime time games. The club will talk it up but it is not a good fixture.

After the past couple of seasons that's to be expected. It could've been much worse though - even after the past couple of seasons we've still only copped one Sunday early game (and it's an away game too).

On the contrary they have met their KPI's well. Vic clubs over non-Vic clubs wherever possible. Done. Tick. Bonus pays for everyone.

I would suspect GWS don't really want Friday night matches (bar the Canberra match) as it competes with the NRL

I like Andrew Fagan, but don't tell us it's a good fixture because we get a little bit of everything.

A good fixture would be half a dozen Friday night games, a dozen Saturday night games, 5 or 6 games in Melbourne. No games in Tasmania, NT, and anywhere else clubs sell games to. We don't get good fixtures.

This is an average fixture.

Even if we had all that our supporters will still whinge and cry

Of course they're a tenant. They "rent" the stadium for their home games. Essendon is a dual tenant of Marvel and the MCG.

If the AFL was serious about giving non-Victorian teams greater access to the MCG in compensation for having the GF there for the next 30 years, they would schedule us there as much as possible. That includes playing dual tenants like Essendon and Carlton at the MCG instead of Marvel

Essendon's home ground is Marvel Stadium (along with the Bulldogs, Carlton, St Kilda and North Melbourne).

Also, we've predomiantly played Carlton at the MCG over the past few years - we've only played them at Marvel once since 2013 (2018).

I have us at 9 wins, 13 losses, we'll have to tank a few games maybe to get right down the bottom

So typical of the AFL

No doubt that Port have been gifted the best Showdown time slot (Saturday night) and once again have the first Showdown to draw in a big crowd.

Even though we're the bigger club chances are that the AFL will more than likely give us a shit time slot for our Showdown (ie Sunday) that will be in the middle of winter.

Got to love the AFL's logic of punishing us because our supporters regularly turn up.

As pedicted

Port are gifted the early season Saturday night Showdown while we get a Sunday night fixture in the middle of winter.

Overall the fixture is a bit meh, but always is, but doesn’t matter who you play and when still got to win. Not going to get the A grade time slots playing B grade footy.

Probably tons more positives and negatives but a few that jump out at me.

Positives

  • First three rounds are at Adelaide Oval
  • 2 massive games at the MCG versus Richmond and Collingwood – Good exposure for the young kids on the big stage.
  • Only one trip out West
  • We only play 2 teams who finished in Top 8 twice in Richmond and Essendon
  • Getting the showdowns out the way early and having to play them before the bye.

Negatives

  • Round 23 vs Geelong at the cattery.. Ouch!!!
  • We travel to every state in Australia except ACT

We're still doing the heavy lifting in the NT while the other team gets paid a ton of money for us to be there.

I think there is an over reaction to games being played in the NT
Our first game for premiership points was only in 2017 at TIO Darwin
The second 2018 at TIO Traeger Park Alice Springs
Third was at TIO Darwin

Aren't we good away and crap at home lately? I don't mind tough games away, in fact I probably like us better in them than weak teams at home, the latter is my real concern!
