2024 Fixture

Did the AFL actually compensate us in the fixture for last year's finals debacle?

  • Sort of - Better difficulty, but commercial fixture as expected or worse

Will be interesting to see the rankings when they come out, how do we get tougher double ups than Port?
I dont think we did, its about the same. But they should've been harder
Melb abut the same as Bris
Showdowns about equal
Carlton just better than Syd
Saints better than Ess
Freo finished around Hawks last year but are better
Tigers about the same as Cats

My read on Opening Round is that the AFL's push into Gold Coast and western Sydney hasn't gone as well as planned and they're hoping to increase interest though this round
Nah... they're taking advantage of an opening the NRL has created.

The NRL are playing 2 games in Las Vegas that weekend, with no other NRL matches scheduled. With no NRL games in either NSW or QLD, the AFL has chosen to schedule home games for all of the northern clubs. The aim is to maximise their exposure while the NRL is playing dead.

I guess the AFL stuffed up the timing then:

The NRL is playing in Vegas the week prior

If that was their reasoning, they either lied or stuffed up.

Either way the NRL will be playing at the same time
This is the AFL we're talking about. Of course they stuffed up.

Their plan to take advantage of the NRL being out of town, during the Las Vegas stunt, was announced immediately after the NRL announced their Las Vegas plans. But only the AFL could **** it up completely, playing their northern clubs home games the week AFTER the NRL goes to Vegas.

Classic AFL.

A poorly thought out, reactionary change that no one wants

And not all teams are going to Vegas anyway are they?

How many NRL player off-field incidents in Vegas are the NRL considering a success?

Anything under 4 and they've done well?

We'll probably never find out, because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

The AFL admin is bad for a lot of reasons but incompetence usually isn’t one of them. They usually get what they want.

4 teams... but they're not playing any other games in Australia that weekend (same as the AFL not playing any games outside NSW/QLD in "opening round").

And the NRL are playing it all as round 1 (essentially a split round).

Whereas, no one has an idea how the AFL are programming the opening round - Round 0, Round 1 with 8 teams playing twice

Who you play is who you play, whatever, but this is an absolute joke. AFL finding completely new ways to compromise the competition.

By the time we have our first bye, many teams have had two.

Richmond and Melbourne huge advantage with 2 spaced out byes.

**** the AFL. Run by a bunch of morons that care about nothing but squeezing the last dollar out of every situation. Fairness and integrity not even considered.

Hawthorn, St Kilda and the Bulldogs in the same boat as us.
