Re: Hogg Injured, Cameron White into Aussie ODI Team

Not sure about that, Hogg’s figures for the ODI games in England were pretty sensational. Was extremely underrated.

Happy 4k BTW.
Cheers.

Don't get me wrong I rate Hoggy, but against the World XI batting line up his impact would only be marginally better than that of White's. However, White would most certainly put up more of a fight when it comes to batting.

Yes I'd prefer Hogg to play because he's a real goer and deserves the opportunity, but by replacing him we're not losing as much as we would be if Warne was the injured party.

Why was White made super sub?

Cameron White is surely a better batting prospect than Bracken and McGrath. He should have been selected in the regular side, with Bracken as the super sub. This would have strengthened our batting line up.

Then when we are bowling, Bracken could have come on for Martyn or someone else who offers little value wehn we are bowling.

Re: Why was White made super sub?

Exactly...McGrath should have been super sub easily...no use having him out there batting when you got a classy all-rounder playing 1 innings.

arnt the supersubs chosen before the toss. if we had mcgrath as the sub and we had to bowl first we would have had to sacrifice one of our batsman at the start of the game.

Your profile says you are 17. Shouldn't you be doing some IT homework or something?

Well they certainly need something... there middle order is something shocking. Hussey, what a hack! Watson a hack and Symonds took forever to make a few pathetic runs. martyn is gone. Why doesn't the broom come out and clean up these past-it players.

Hussey? Symonds?

I hope for your own credibility that post was sarcastic.

Re: Why was White made super sub?

White is the ideal choice from our squad to be the sub. Subs are chosen before the toss. If we have Pigeon as our sub and we bowl first then all we do is waste another player. They would have to be subbed out straight away without playing so that Pigeon could open the bowling.

Why? White offers plenty in the field, can bowl and is a good batsman

Australia could have used him when they were batting today, and they can use him atm in the field, but instead he is sitting there doing nothing

Watson is the perfect sub

How come they didnt sub martyn off after he went out?? it would of allowed white a bat in the aussies innings!!

LOL , well then if they did what 'you' said then yeah that would be cool, but the small problem of that Australia would be batting 12 not 11 would be an issue. But you never know ;)

???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Re: Why was White made super sub?

If martyn was subbed off before he was out White would be able to bat in his place, but because Martyn was already dismissed and you wanted to sub him off after that, White wouldn't be able to bat because he and Martyn are basically sharing one place in the team. I can't explain it properly, there must be rules somewhere on the net

But you got a superb slips fielder on the bench, you dropped your other slips fielder and sitters are getting dropped in there

Everyone is whingeing that Watson cant bat at 7 or 8, that spot is suited to Whites batting

I'm a Watson fan, but while we have the supersub rule, Eddie's right. Watson should be supersub, White should be at 8

Re: Why was White made super sub?

It was pretty clear last night that Australia picked their best XI and have no plans of making any of those XI a super sub.

White is the 12th player added to the squad and it looks like he was selected for his all round ability.
- If Australia bats first he subs out a batsman and becomes an extra bowling option if one of the first XI bowlers gets injured, gets hammered or the pitch spins a lot. Last night Australian bowlers were on top, all five bowled well, White was not required.
- If Australia bowls first he subs out McGrath at the end of the innings to become an extra batsman. The added bonus is he can sub out a bowler before they reach their 10 overs and bowl the remainder of those 10 overs.

I think it was very sad that White did not get any overs, you think they would give him some experience out there in a match that had already been won, either Ponting doesn't like him or he was intent on only using his first XI.

Re: Why was White made super sub?

It was disappointing the Whitey didn'y get a bowl but I suppose when the other bowlers were doing the job there is no point changing them. Maybe Friday as I don't think the Aussie side will change.

Totally. I have been pushing this exact scenario since the sub rule was introduced.

It’s overwhelmingly the most logical approach. You pick your next best allrounder that wouldn’t normally make the team. And nearly every time they will be subbed in at the innings break.

It’s madness to pick a specialist batsman or bowler as your sub.

The rule is fundamentally flawed because it is supposed to add a dramatic new tactical element to the game but only in extremely rare circumstances will it ever do this.

The sub rule sounds like it might be okay at first glance but in reality it is going to have very little impact.
