Re: Official GVFL thread

The Archard debacle wouldnt be going down to well with echuca at the moment would it???? Everyone was jumping on board and saying they were early flag favourites after archard signing!!! Now what for the murray bombers as potetial recruits mite shy away from playing with them now this has happened?? i.e. Oswald brothers???

Re: Official GVFL thread

Who are Ky's big recruits?? Monday's Shepp news says they are on the brink of 5 good signings. Can anyone shed some light on who they are (or could be)??? David Newman is one, what about the others???

Re: Official GVFL thread

Think you meant Ben Shelton there mate. Others include:
SEYMOUR
Adam Reid
Brent Colbert
Paul Ellis
EUROA
Damon Clarke
Daniel Howse(was involved before they changed thier name to Bullants)

Karl Norman was on Carltons list, that is the only reason why he played at the Bullants. Just like Blake Campbell.

Very true Boss , and I have left a couple out . I had no idea about Howse that was a good one .:thumbsu:

How true is this? Has there been anything in the local papers up there?

Re: Official GVFL thread

Not footy related, but got this joke by email yesterday and thought it was good enough to share.

A Collingwood Girl enters a sex shop & asks for a vibrator.

The man says: "Choose one from our range on the wall." She says "I'll take the red one."

The man replies: "That's a fire extinguisher."

Re: Official GVFL thread

Terence Tuohey takes over from David Southwell as reserves coach,

Give it a year or two and then pounce as Spica Bargearse Tuohey will be worth chasing as a senior coach. Will he play in the 2nd's or non playing coach?

Will be playing, but not sure how long he will last? Very much ageing and tired body.

Re: Official GVFL thread

Dont get to carried away Mooroopna , Russell Lee is a good player not a champion, his disposal is a little all over the place at times. Craig Whelan not bad either but not in the same league as Saad or Grainger , who also played at the Bullants.:thumbsu:
Interesting appraisal Duffy.
Both ex Nth Knights/Nth Bullants (Dean also ex Nth Knights), 8 senior DVFL/NFL premierships between the three, Lee has a senior B & F and in a winning 2006 GF team was unlucky not to get the medal for BOG in a team not expected to win. Whelan unlucky to play in an era when Heid had a succession of gun full forwards. Dean can play key position (CHF/CHB) or ruck.

Not a bad CV for the trio even for an uneducated punter.

Thanks Alter Ego , but hang on a minute , [Whelan unlucky to play in an era when Heid had a succession of gun full forwards.] so you are agreeing with me that hes not a gun then by that comment. And as I said about Russ good player disposal lets him down , I dont know Dean so I did not comment, and as for [ and in a winning 2006 GF team was unlucky not to get the medal for BOG in a team not expected to win] Please and I should have one the last 4 Morrison Medals in my opinion:thumbsu:

Lance Oswald is very keen to play along side Guy Campbell, so I would say he will sign with Echuca. There has been nothing in the papers up here.

We'll have to agree to disagree Duff.
Suffice to say it will be Mooroopna's gain and Heidelberg's loss.

Re: Official GVFL thread

I have it on good authority that he's staying.
He was on WIN news last night saying he's pretty keen to give the SANFL another crack and that he'll miss everyone at the club etc. Who knows with him, guess the only way we'll know is when he actually pulls on a jumper!

Shepp News 21/11

Looby changes feathers By Richard Goodbody

Shepparton Swans defender Tim Looby will attempt to reignite his playing career in South Australia next year after signing with Port Adelaide Magpies.
Earlier this week, the Magpies flew Looby to Alberton Oval for a preseason training run before enticing the 20-year-old to put pen to paper.
Looby's departure from Princess Park ends a whirlwind 12 months for the leftfooter, who created a storm this year, on and off the park.
After initially agreeing to play with Port Melbourne, Looby eventually signed with the Magpies before returning to the Goulburn Valley to line-up with the Swans.
However, the former AFL draftee unknowingly became embroiled in a lengthy contract dispute, which eventually cost the Swans four premiership points and $1000.
Despite the off-field controversy, Looby repaid the club's faith in him with some scintillating performances in the back half.
Lining up on some of the Goulburn Valley Football League's most explosive forwards, Looby's hard-nosed performances led the Swans to a grand final showdown with Seymour, but they were unable to end their 37-year premiership drought.
"I've decided to have another crack with Port Adelaide," Looby said yesterday.
"I spoke to (Swans president) Robin Knaggs and let him know that I was going back over to South Australia and, while he was disappointed, he understood where I was coming from.
"I'm just trying to play the best footy I can."
While Looby is automatically entered in Sunday's National Draft, the former Murray Bushranger is refusing to think about a return to AFL ranks.
"Going to Port Adelaide has nothing to do with trying to play in the AFL again," he said.
"I just think I should have another crack at trying to play at the highest level I can for the next couple of years and the Magpies are willing to give me a shot."
Looby will link up with the South Australian club in the next fortnight.

Port was my original mail but I heard something different last night. The post above confirms otherwise.

Re: Official GVFL thread

The rumour mill has it that kyabram superboot matt hosking is returning to the area. have the bombers made an effort to secure the services of hosking or will he go elsewhere?

Re: Official GVFL thread

Any news on Ky's "switch on the lights" night with G Lyon & C Connolly?
Know a couple of old ex Ky boys who were invited but couldn't make it due to work commitments.

A crowd estimated between five and six hundred witnessed some Kyabram history being made on Friday night when the new state-of-the-art lighting system was offically activated at the Kyabram recreation reserve.
The $300 000-plus project came to fruition at 9.30 pm when Peter Lyon ignited the first set of lights on the four 30m-high towers around the ground.

Cr John Elborough and Les Dillon also had their turn to create history when they followed Peter with the remote control to bring the system to its full lighting capacity.

Those attending the evening marvelled at the intensity of the lights when they were fully operational after several minutes.

The lights are powerful enough to stage night cricket and are equal to any lighting system at any sports oval in country Victoria.

At the corporate dinner fundraiser leading into the switch-on, former Fremantle coach Chris Connolly told 200 people the night was "a signifcant event in Kyabram's history."

"This is something which future generations of Kyabramites can enjoy and benefit from.

"It is a tremendous asset for the town," said Connolly, who replaced Bill Brownless as a guest speaker along with Garry Lyon at the function which was attended by a cross section of the community.

Connolly, originally from Shepparton, had the crowd engrossed with a stirring speech in which he stressed the necessity of country people being proud of what they are and where they live.

MC for the evening, Ian Purdey, singled out Peter Lyon, Stuart Lowe of Morrison & Sawers Lawyers, Mayor of Campaspe John Elborough and local electrician Les Dillon as being the four key players in bringing the project to fruition.

"It was Peter's brainchild to install the lights, Stuart Lowe got the fundraising going with a $25 000 donation from Morrison & Sawers Lawyers, Cr John Elborough has been Campaspe Shire Council's driving force in the project and Les Dillon has been the person who has brought it all together physically with his large team of voluntary workers."

Les Dillon also addressed the gathering and named every person who had performed voluntary work on the project which has taken three years to materialise.

One of the organisers of Friday's Bright Light celebrations, Mark Foulsham, was happy with the way the evening went off.

"I think everyone who has come tonight has enjoyed themselves."

Re: Official GVFL thread

Bit of news out of Rochy:

Ben Anderson and Heath Aitken are leaving. Ben is going overseas and Heath is staying in Melbourne as he just got a teaching job there. He will probably play at Blackburn with Jeremy Campbell and Tim Rasmussen.

Steve Rasmussen is coming back from Rushworth and Chris McCarty is coming back from overseas next year, so he might be a chance.

The club has spoken to a few ex-Pioneers players from the last few seasons, and hope to sign up a couple.

They are also contacting players from minor leagues from around the district, such as Lockington, Elmore and Colbinabbin.

Hasn't Licuria taken a job with Collingwood's VFL team? If he has, that would make it pretty hard to travel up every week.
