If you have 2 kids you pay for 2 kids, but the club counts that as 4 kids
Same money, but membership numbers for juniors doubled

If true, that's DODGEY!

It doesn't really matter how many physical people you have though in the scheme of things. With different membership options, some that don't even provide games access, and varying prices between those options and also between clubs. In the end it's the revenue of membership dollars that matters.

What's better for a club? A single member paying $1000 for a premium level membership or 10 members who pay $30 for a digital access membership? Will those 10 members buy more in merchandise to make up that $700 shortfall (plus whatever the premo level member spends on gear too).

For the record, I'm for transparency and honesty surrounding membership numbers. Though firmly believe comparing membership numbers between clubs is a hugely irrelevant exercise and would only do so to wind up opposition fans lol.

It's moreso to get sponsors on board, by showing what a well supported club we are and that's why we want you to give us millions of dollars per year, to get your brand name across x amount of members, on top of non-member supporters out there. It's the ploy Collingwood uses every year, self-promoting themselves as the biggest club in Australia.

Hi HFC Official,

Some posters on BigFooty believe the reason we have such a high number of junior members is due to the club/AFL automatically counting 4 juniors for each family membership regardless of how many juniors are actually listed on the membership form for that family. So if there are 2 adults and 2 juniors on the family membership application/renewal form then the club adds 2 adults and 4 juniors to the total.

Could you please confirm with the membership department whether this is in fact how the tally is done.
This would be an illogical and dubious way to do the count.

A hawthorn family membership entitles up to four children where most clubs don't. do other clubs have 2 kids in every single family memberships.

I can see the point in membership bragging contests, but isn't it good our members get more value?

When you receive an email at least have the courtesy to read the request - that way you won't embarrass yourself and in turn the club when you respond with your generic bullshit.

My blood is boiling - not because the request was rejected - it was more "wishful hoping" than anything but in the manner that you responded and the wording that you used - maybe some training wouldn't go astray
