Good spread in the Chronicle today on the akermanis saga - with coverage from all angles i.e. Tarra perspective, League and Milawa's - well done Nonch and Co!!!

Yeah cheers PL, we wanted to make sure we were covering all bases.

Yeah, fair effort Nonch.........Has the blood drained back to where it should be yet ??..:D:D:D

It was a big day slim, but the exciting bit of the season is only just beginning. Should have updates on most clubs over the next couple of weeks, starting with Benalla on Monday. All Blacks sound like they're shaping up very nicely.

Yeah hopefully we'll go a bit further in Sept this year. The pre season regime has been modified a bit in an effort to try and make sure we don't run out of legs toward the end of the season. Recruiting has been ok, so if those blokes all play to the best of their abilities then it should be a good year.

Can't tell you much more without giving too much away, perhaps you will need to buy the Chronnie on Mon if you want more info..lol..:p:p:p

Milawa and tarra will have to be the clear favourites at this present time for the flag.

A lot of the kids are still trying out with Maggies and Rovers so a bit hard to know full numbers at club level. Milawa have 14 at this stage and hopefully pick up a couple when the OM sides do their cut.

A bit of a storm brewing about the late changes to the draw that the league made last week......

Not absolutely sure what there Beef is regarding it - Only assuming that it is that they have so many away games early on in the year (5 away in the first 6) - However they only have 3 home games in the first nine games anyway.

And four home games in a row in the middle of winter. Everyone else is getting a fair split of the draw. We are not asking for any special treatment, we just want a fair draw for all involved. Thats our Beef.

Has the draw changed that much from the AGM ? - The only switch I am aware of was that Rd 4 and Rd 9 were substituted - either way Greta have a raw deal.:(

We knew after the AGM that we had a bad draw early on in the season and we were willing to cop that, but that substitute with rounds 4 & 9 causes use to play 4 games in a row in the middle winter and if it rains like it did last year we may be playing on Lake Greta again. Like I said we aren't trying to rock the boat, we just want a fair deal.

Nth Wang look to have a raw deal as well, starting off with four out of five matches away from home.

I think we alknow how important those first couple of home games are for starting to replenishing the bank account.

What was the reasoning for the swap, I assume it has to be more than just the Akker circus......

The first two articles on All Blacks and Glenrowan have both been a good read, I'm hoping that they will be able to get through all the clubs before round one.

Does anyone know if any decision has been reached regarding David Steer being released from Wang Magpies to coach North Wang???

Well the ball remains in Wang's court. They haven't released him, and I don't believe they will be ordered to do so. Disappointing really, because he won't play for Wang. Hopefully they have a change of heart at some point, but it doesn't seem to be happening.

Dissapointing yes, but I am with the maggies with this. He signed a contract, it's tough but if the boot was on the other foot I bet he would be jumpoing up and down about it! Don't loose sit of the fact Nonch that country footy is about the club and not the individual!

I don't disagree with any of that, but we're talking about someone who really struggled with injury last season, and doesn't feel his body can stand up to the rigours of O&M any more.
It seems to me that if the story hadn't been splashed all over the BM back page they would have released him, but they're upset that he was announced as coach of NW before that had a chance to happen.
What is the point of forcing a player to sit out of football for the year - let alone a guy who has helped the club win two flags? I personally don't think that sends a good message to anyone. But everyone else is welcome to their views.
I am a little bit biased, because I've only heard NW's side of the story - no one from Wang wants to talk about it, other than to say he's a required player, which I feel isn't true.
Anyway, that's my two bob.

Sorry but I think we will have to agree to disagree Nonch. Firstly I look at it as the football club has provided him with the opportunity to play in two winning Grand Finals, if anything he owes them for that and not the other way around. Secondly he is a paid player and therefore an employee of the football club, he signed the contract knowing full well what he was signing and the conditions that were involved including the terms about the length of his employment and thirdly, by allowing him to pull out of this contract what kind of precedent does this set?

Very valid and good points from both sides of the arguement by both of you.
When these things go **** up as this one obviously has, everyone loses. Wang lose a contracted, seasoned player and good servant of the club, who would probably never go back after things have turned ugly.
Nth Wang only get 1/2 of what they had bargained for and Steer has to miss a season of footy.

Is he able to coach on the ground if he hasn't been cleared ?????. I don't have a rule book handy....can't be bothered looking at the VCeffenL website either....

Well he can't be registered by the club, so officially no. But I think they would keep him as an unofficial assistant - I don't think there is anything the VCFL could do to stop that.
