OKFL - Pre Season 2012

The reasons why Bright are keen to leave the O&K (as per the Chronicle article) make perfect sense.
But, if this has been in the wings for a while it may have stemmed from "Akermania" & Bright not getting a home game over Easter in 2011 as a result. Bright were understandably really dirty on the league because an Easter fixture brings their club valuable tourist dollars. They felt in all the hype to bring Aker to town they were neglected. In addition to the Milawa/Tarra game, from memory I think a game was also played between King Valley & Tatong to which bugger all people showed up. So the opportunity was lost.

I don't think it has anything to do with Easter. Basically they have six footy sides (u12, 14, 16, 18, res and seniors) playing in four separate leagues (MDJFL, WDJFL, O&K thirds & O&K). They have been talking about going to the TDFL for a few years now - it was definitely discussed when the BDFL sides came in, mostly because of the travel. But now the option of playing u12, 14, 17, res and seniors all on the same day at the same ground in the TDFL is the main kicker.

Fair enough, thought there may have been some residual bad blood because Bright were pretty pissed off last year.

What has been the response from the TDFL clubs Nonch ? Can't see Rutherglen, Wahgunyah etc being that happy about a trip to Bright. They would also be very unlikely to find a TDFL Club to play them at Easter.

Just having a look at the ladder and it looks like Bright have a good chance of making the 8 with All Blacks likely to lose their next 3 games. If they can play with the form they are capable of they might scare a few come finals.

Bright need to win 2/3 to knock out Greta (provided the Blues don't win another game). So if Greta causes an upset Bright must win 3/3. The only way All Blacks can get knocked out is if they lose all 3, while Greta win 2/3 & Bright 3/3 which is highly unlikely.

Nah Rumble, hadn't heard about it...I certainly hope it wasn't one of our ex-players.....If it was can you pm me with a name...I'm happy to pass it on to the powers that be from our club...:thumbsu:

I was standing right beside the hat wearers when it happened the ex player W?????e was a disgrace given his son was boundary umpiring the game and saw his father unload with a mouth full of abuse right in front of him the goal umpire was going to raise it with the board but dont know if he followed through with it

Sounds like there could be a fair few vcfl employees looking for new jobs next year by all reports. Let's just hope the re jig works!

We can only hope that the support is better after the review because between the OKFNL the VCFL the NEUB and that NG mob we are not receiving value for money , costs have exploded over the last 5 years and the service has declined if it were a business you would go somewhere else or ask for a refund.

I was the escort at BD and it was pretty bad, a few guys got pissed at their GF reunion and the umps unfortunately had to walk right through them as their set up is upstairs. One guy raised his fist and motioned to hit BO but thankfully stopped.

I will say the umps did not do themselves any favors by not waiting for both the escorts they just took off and i was left helping the young goal umps off. The League has missed the opportunity to send a message to everyone after this and Nth Wang and they seem reluctant to rock the boat.

wasn't the cap wearer slim, also heard blacks may be on the move apparently not happy with 3rds comp

Sorry ATB I missed your post last week....Yeah I heard the guys talking the other day at training after hearing about Bright and they're a bit worried about the 3rds comp and it's future...Then I heard one of the combine sides forfeited last week as well. As for being on the move I don't know ATB but if the 3rds comp were to fall over then who knows what could happen...

i read on the front page of the chronicle today that there was a suspicious housefire in the Wangaratta area from the weekend... wouldnt have anything to do with a north Wang forward?

Had a look at the Benalla Vs Bright game on the weekend.
I was expecting a closer game but Bright didn't seem to show up on the day!
Blacks were looking good on their ground with Webby and Pickering running rings around Bright with their raw pace. It was also good to see that they were playing Mike Donehue at full forward and not the wing as the coach has in recent weeks. He is so fast off the mark with probably the best hands in the league. He could be a big factor coming into finals If Blacks are to go anywhere.

What happened to you blokes on the weekend Bunyip? After such an impressive performance last weekend I would have thought you would have taken it right up to North Wang.
Mate they were awesome. So many other clubs have players missing due to injury or players carrying injuries, but North Wang appeared to have all their big guns on the paddock. That said, we were flat early. But they cut us up in the middle & we couldn't get our hands on the ball. The Nth Wang people I spoke with said it was clearly their best performance of the year. Matt Smith must have kicked 5 or 6 in the last quarter, 5 from outside 50. He couldn't miss. It was their day all round.
We have Milawa next week & I was told they had only 13 show up for the twos on Saturday. So their injuries may give us a chance of upsetting them again. Our club has its "Heritage & Past Players Day" (purple & gold guernseys) this weekend so it would be great if we rebounded strongly & booked a finals spot.

If you want tio join Frank's fan club I'm sure if you contact him he'll sell you a ticket....Possibly even provide you with a signed photo.......What was the name of his opponent on Sat again.....

What alternatives do the All Blacks have though if they wanted to change leagues because of the 3rds situation?

i travelled to check out this game coz i thought it was going to be a great game. But like Seahunt said it was all Benalla from the get go, they played good team footy and linked up really well. Kent carved it up for the Mountain Men and Nightingale tried tirelessly all day. As for Blacks, Pickering had 1 of his best matches (from what i have heard) and saw on Saturday, Donehue was good up forward but i think the key for Blacks is keeping Hearn on the park he is an absolute gun! As for finals i still dont think Blacks can mix it with the top teams... They dont put teams away like the others and the only side they havent beaten is 1 at the top of the table. Time will tell finishing with Tarra and KV in the coming weeks. Thoughts?

Against Greta, without Frankie Donohue Blacks lacked a target up forward. If he plays they may be a outside chance but I'd expect Tarra & KV to still prevail. I'm hearing Tarra have so many numbers players are missing out on twos games, which suggests they will be hard to beat hereafter & we all know that they're dangerous at finals time.

You couldn't be serious a very low blow SS caught up with this fellow over weekend good bloke! He's being through enough knowing he stuffed up! Without people on here not able to stick to footy talk & bring up shit from he's past you must be jealous of him or Nth Wang, can't think before you talk or just a magot of a person.

Come on everyone talk footy without the jealousy and bitchen happens every year!

BK, heard from a couple sources today Milawa were missing a few on Sat thus the reason that you guys got over them....I looked at their side and could only see Jethro and Pelly missing......Perhaps it was the usual excuses for when ever they lose.....
