Yes a good servant over the years.

OHA beat Uni by around 90 , Uni really put in a great effort and were only 20 odd points down early on the last before the ships kicked away, Bowering finished with 11 i think

Yell u wat Barge loveless would walk into any of Claremonts sides in the last 15 years

Please read again my next post after the one you quoted.

Didn't say he couldn't play, said he couldn't be in a current Rep Side on form for the simple reason he hadn't been playing!

Out of interest, why hasn't he been playing?

What's he done to himself?

The times I'd seen him play over the last few years his knee brace always seems to come undone.

Hopefully, it's not more knee trouble because having spoken to him through a mutual friend he seems like a thoroughly good bloke.

Caught the ressies game up at Rooster Park, good to see a youthful DOSA ressies team get up for Turtle!

Rumour is, young No.40 is to be presented with his jumper?

Would be well deserved imo, kid looks the goods.

Lets be honest then, what game were you actually watching???

Best player I have ever seen in Old scholars football is Nigel Palfreyman, not Adam, Richard or now Sam but Brisbane Bears Nigel till he did a knee in semi against DOSA, don't think he played again. He was unstoppable:)

Next best I have seen is Coad by 2 football fields, he wore number 5 and would have walked into almost any SWL team in late 90's but chose to stay at DOSA, pretty common up there so must have something going for it?? Matthew Queen played 2/3's of a season and walked out on DOSA couple weeks before finals, he went ok as well, cleaned up Tim Scott (playing wise) at OHA one day, pretty sure everyone was scared of him though, even the DOSA boys were a little gun shy at times:eek:

Tony Bailey or "Seal Pup" as he was known, Rod and Brian Thomas were up there and Micky Bowden. Mark 'Cheeky Chap" Young could play a bit too and Young Egan at Hutchins now is real special, could play devils if tried! Rogers is a player but poorly used by coaches over past few seasons. Robbie Gourlay went ok and Jason Frawley would be picked in anyones team in his prime, reads the ball so well.

Snowy Loveless hardest player and best captain in 20 years of an OSFA club, that guy could still get a kick after 10 years out of the game, fastest bloke on his knees over 10m in football and Rocket McConnon on the one day he was fit in his whole career was a genius! Matt and Rick Honey also worth mentions, Rick was an enigma and Matt could win games on his own!

I would say Nigel would have to rate right up there as the best but only played a handful of games. I played in the semi final in 99 and i recon he had 50 touches and ran Coady into the ground. A good guy off the feild as well played a lot of junior footy with him

Has had a scrape of his knee will be back this week i recon has played the last couple in the twos

Can you elaborate on what you meant by that? :) Do you mean no. 40 doesn't look the goods?

It was a tongue in cheek comment.. But if he wants the No.22 he will need to lift to the 30 possession 5 goals performances that the leadership group constantly asks of him..

He'll win mark of the year for sure. Played against him 2 years ago in the reserves and he took one of the highest marks I've ever seen. Took about 8 hangers that day.

Played on him in a game last year and is bloody quick, probably the quickest I have played on. But he can also jump and mark, which makes him a very tough match up. Not bad for a 17(??) year old..:thumbsu:

yeah you would have to put a min game clause in ,so many good players who played a season or two .
Blokes like Wayne Bucket Olding, Sam Roberts, Liegh Bowden,Brian Thomas,Mick Bowden, were all good players who were around a while.
There is also blokes like shane fell ,blair brownless, chris reiwolt, john klug, scott adams, trent nicholls, nigel palfreyman, darren perry, jarrod read, rhys long, paul burnell shit i could go on forever but it does get you thinking .
The old scholars comp has been good for a while now and i think it will only get stronger if they go ahead with this statewide crap.
Id really like to see some sort of rep game,be interesting to see how competive they would be.

ok there have been alot of good players best make it best players who have played 50 plus games or even 100 games

can any one else name a player who has played AFL/VFL and old scholars ?
Ill start with Jody Arnol Stkilda-Richmond

Scott Harris from Hutchins was ok, thought he was gods gift to football and a bit of a toss but could play when he put his mind to it. Cat Palfreyman is ok but has few tricks and a truley good defender can deal with him, in fact mention the name James Casey to him and he craps himself:eek:
Matt Honey just for being Matt, big, mobile and if he could actually kick straight consistently would kick 150 a season, very dangerous from about 2 feet outside the boundry on his non preferred left, natural tendancy to be a lair:)

Snowy a given and the best bloke going around and an honourable mention to Potsy Hartill, to carry his frame and mark without actually leaving the ground is a real achievement. Shane Fell was huge as was Jody Arnol but he probably didn't play 50 games? Best fullback I ever saw was Paul Harding from DOSA, what nobody remembers him well he was an average footballer, undersized and couldn't kick but to keep Shane Fell goal less all season and actually out wrestle him was a feat. His nickname was "Freak" afterall. Jason Frawley honourable mention and a couple of Hutchins guys from back 1997-2003 in the backline, Andrew Younger was ok as well.

cat palfreyman and snowy loveless if you take into account games played.

cat palfreyman consistant good forward/I would say big mat honey would have been the most dominant fullforward over the years. when played at that position. very hard man to match up on. would love to see him play full season at fullforward fully fit would kick 100 plus a season/backline players snowy would be up there by far/scott hartil from dosa/rick honey very good backline player.

billy brownless not sure if he played vfl/but played with dosa one game-lol

Rember watching mat honey play on big jody arnold one day up at dosa/dominic/kept him 2 about one goal and was far to strong 4 him the guy was twice his size nearly.mind you probaly twice his age as well lol

I think you r a bit hard on the cat he is a very good player and surely headbutt is only just ,but did a great job to play so many games and from the outside looked like a good club man .

In the best players 8 times out of 10 games, 17 goals while playing mostly in the ruck. Pretty much the only genuine ruckman in the team. I'd say that qualifies him for a spot in any rep team!

I know he has been in the best but from what I have seen he doesn't win many taps and certainly isn't lethal around the ground as far as big men go! Ok he does kick goals but wouldn't rate him above other forwards in the old scholars. I think Rossiter from Hutchins, Sherman (DOSA) Thurgood (st v) would all be better ruckmen!:D

Thats a fair point. I tagged him a few times when i was playing for Friends (about 5 years ago), and he is near impossible to stop. He reads tha ball extremely well in stoppages, his team mates block well for him, and, as you said, he just does not stop running.

I think DOSA definately rated him, just didn't get the right match up. Ask any one playing Old scholars and 9 out of 10 would rate him the best in the league! He has a massive engine, the silkiest skills by far and remains composed no matter what the situation - Absolute Class and a good bloke as well!:thumbsu:

Why has there been no mention of Duncan Jones' goal for St virgils to win the game? Might be the start of a forward career for the ex-hobart backman??
