teams (1 man/1 woman) can qualify for the Olympics where it is another new mixed event.

Australia did qualify two teams for the Olympic event, so a chance of medals in Paris.

Was lucky to catch the last 7km of this on SBS last night, and there was a group of 6 I think that had a minute break on the next group and had to work with each other and then outfox each other in the last kilometre but Grace Brown launched an attack late and hung on.

imadodgyumpire if you didn't start this thread I wouldn't have posted the following anywhere.

The 2024 BMX World champs are on mid May, 10th to 18th, in USA but only for the BMX Flatland men's and women's event, which aren't flat, but lots of up and down hills. Hopefully Saya Sakakibara does well and doesn't crash. She didn't win the 2023 world champs but ended 2023 ranked #1 in the world.

These will effectively be test runs for Paris.

The Aths Stats guy has produced this very usual graphic of where the athletics team and potential team is at. Sending 60 to 70 is consistent with how many get selected the past couple of games and this is the list since the heady days of Sydney when 82 were selected.

Athens 45, Beijing 40, London 52, Rio 62, Tokyo 63.

The graphic is after the nationals in Adelaide.

Jane Fleming on 7+ on their start of their Sunday coverage said the depth of talent, especially of younger athletes is a lot higher than in Barcelona, with 8 years to go to Sydney, given we are now 8 years away from Brisbane 2032.

World Relays - to qualify teams for Paris - start in The Bahamas tomorrow morning (our time).

The AUS women's 4x100m team looks the best chance to make a final (only first 2 make it through), but will be tougher for our other teams.

Just started. Mixed 4x4 to kick it off.
Netherlands and Dominican Republic qualified. Bahama had a strong lead but fell apart on the 4th leg.

Ohhh wow. I think we have missed auto qualifying in the women’s 4x1 by the narrowest of margins. Still awaiting official results because it was so close.

Lane started brilliantly, Masters a great run, Connolly was a little slow to receive the baton and lost some crucial time. Lewis started a tad slow but she absolutely stormed home last 30.

Edit: THEY DID IT!!! Qualified for Paris!

2nd change was a bit ropey, but they all ran well. Talou actually ran past Lewis into 2nd in the last 20m, but was overstriding, lost a bit of balance and Lewis got her with a dip.

Talou being a bit wobbly at the end meant Lewis caught her and just got ahead of her on the line.

Looking good to qualify via the repechage but depends on the draw.

Lost it on the last change - Josh had to slow for one step and that's all it took. But perfect changes are very rare - almost all baton changes are a bit of a 'practice, practice, hope and pray on the day'.

The mens 4×100m guys ran the 11th fastest time.

Trinidad and Nigeria ran faster than Jamaica but didnt qualify. I assume we arent in their repechage heats, and if so, the men's looking good to qualify tomorrow.

Yep. What do you do with that line-up? Oboya ran well but faded, Beer was superb. Yukich ran okay, but faded at the end because she had to do too much early.
