Less risk than Vickery...I'd pass given the expected cost, just too risky with the injuries.

Yeah you did. Chucking in a couple of second rounders isn't worth pick three for a club that needs to being a full rebuild. No one ever suggested that.
Just on Mitchell, werent Carlton really into him last few years? They go cold or player doesnt want anything to do with them?So much of "oh.. the sky is falling coz O'Meara nominated Hawthorn" in this thread. Extrapolate this, and next year Fyfe will go for Free Agency with Hawthorn... the sky is falling, blah blah.
Players look at club loyalty, ability to play in the senior team, home state, length of contract, chances of finals and annual salary in a combination.
Brad Hill is going to Freo. Chances are he's going there for money.
Dion Prestia is coming to Melbourne, and picked Richmond for home, contract length, & salary. Clearly not for finals likelihood in 2017.
Tom Mitchell is coming to Hawthorn for more opportunity, otherwise he's a father son recruit at Sydney, and would have stayed there.
Jacksch picked Carlton 2 years ago over the Saints (thank god!).
Patfull chose GWS coz he's got links in Sydney.
McCarthy could have been playing in the inaugural finals for GWS, but instead is rotting away in WAFL due to homesickness.
Lovett picked the Saints over others coz of the chance to play finals (didn't work out unfortunately)
But, just a blanket potting of O'Meara is uncalled for.
Free Agency working at its best. Cant wait for the media people saying 'this is what free agency was introduced for' when any half-wit knows that it makes the strong teams stronger. 99% of players will go to the better club to win a flag. This weak ass twerp isn't willing to do the hard yards to win a flag, would rather ride on the tailcoats of Hawk superstars to win one.
I wish there were clubs out there who played hardball and don't let the little weasel get to where he wants to go. Make him go through the draft and end up at Essendon or Brisbane. Like GWS last year with McCarthy. Sick of young players getting what they want when they haven't earned it.
The players want free agency, then fine. Let the clubs control them until they are free agents and then see them go running scared. Players union ruining the game all for more $$$.

Well last few years have been fanfiction come true, why stop now?Last few pages reads like a Hawthorn supporters fanfiction.
The draft is useless. No number one draft pick has become a premiership player since Hodge, only two picks 2 that has is Roughead (in the same team) and Thomas, and pick 3 after Judd (from the same draft as Hodge) is again one player (Ellis). No the draft needs to stay and the clubs need to be given the Trade power not the player, similar to the model the NBA have.
The FA qualification period would also then need to be lowered to balance this out, this in my opinion would assist the AFL in their quest to equalise the competition.
But as stands today I hope to be welcoming O'Mera to the Hawks very soon.
I've said it before, Hodge Mitchell Burgers replaced by Fyfe O'Meara Mitchell in 2018. Imagine the tears.
Just on Mitchell, werent Carlton really into him last few years? They go cold or player doesnt want anything to do with them?
I understand GC want players not picks. Who would be in the frame to be traded? Langford, Breust, Stratton?Despite all you blokes hating hawthorn, they are one of the easiest to deal with in the trade period and nearly always get the deals they want done with both parties walking away relatively content, this deal will get done fairly.
one good thing to come out of this trade if gold coast get screwed by hawthorn. oh wait a minute if the (afl) slash gold coast get screwed hawthorn will be lucky to get any soft free kicks again. by watching friday nights game it is slowy starting wait to next year new # next year free kick against hawthorn
Bet you weren't Harping on like this when Chris Judd nominated Carlton!!! He is the one that set the precedent for players all nominating clubs that they want to be traded to. Judd went to the Blues when you thought your premiership window was open / opening!!!Surprise, surprise, surprise!!!
Who would have thought it O'Meara has chosen Hawthorn.
As Josh Gibson, as Lake and as Jack Gunston did.
Yes, equalisation works well. It works extremely well, for the top clubs that is.
Top talent walks out of crap clubs (Eg Henderson) to go to top clubs.
The pattern continues. I nominate....let me see...should I go to Hawthorn and get a flag, or should I go to Collingwood and be coached by Nathan Buckley.
Such hard decisions.
Probably any pick around between about 5 and 8, or two picks under about 15 IMO. Yes he has done a knee, but before that he was effectively first pick in his draft and then picked up a Rising Star gong.what is o'meara worth though? he's certainly not worth what dangerfield/treloar is worth if his knees aren't any good.
Would JoM be accepting less at hawthorn than say at essendon?
More to the point, why on earth would a first-22 player at a club like Hawthorn actually want to leave, let alone go to the Gold Coast?I understand GC want players not picks. Who would be in the frame to be traded? Langford, Breust, Stratton?
Langford possibly but his worth isn't what it used to be.I understand GC want players not picks. Who would be in the frame to be traded? Langford, Breust, Stratton?

Not sure why the NFL model isn't more followed- draft, but once some player has nominated and not been drafted, free reign. Why should someone have to use a draft pick on some player in the WAFL who hasn't been picked for 3 years? Let LTI players be replaced that way.The draft is useless. No number one draft pick has become a premiership player since Hodge, only two picks 2 that has is Roughead (in the same team) and Thomas, and pick 3 after Judd (from the same draft as Hodge) is again one player (Ellis).
It isn't the leveller everyone believes it is. It is a poor mechanism for distributing talent in a sport that requires 18 players on the field.
NBA is not the model because one player can change everything about the way the team plays.
Get used to Hawks continuing dominance, the AFL has locked you into believing that the way they run things is equalising. They have no idea what they are doing and the smarter clubs, like Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong, are taking advantage of them.Hawthorn has just won 3 in a row, odds are their run is over and some other teams are about to take over the domination.
If JOM ends up at Hawks I do so hope their reign is over and no more flags for the next 10+years, give other teams a bit of glory, inc GC.
No disrespect to Hawks but what you have achieved over the last half a dozen or so years is a fantasy dream for most other teams and supporters.
Neither will the Cats, bookmark it!!!Unless you were aware of another batch of players being picked up, ie Fyfe, Mitchell, Hawthorn won't be winning the flag again anytime soon.
