Not gona win the hitout count against an octopus like Warnock, and Kruzer is also rather handy....
I though Maric came out on top in that dual, TV could have done better with his hitout work but all in all your 2 beat their 2 overall IMO considering yours combined for 30 disposals and 4 goals, they managed 10 an 1.....

I think you guys have the same problem we have with Goldy in that we both rely too much on the #1 ruckman and he can get run around and into the ground, I think you need two solid ruck options against the teams who play two genuine ruckmen otherwise one is bound to run your guy off his feet and allow the other one to jump all over you.

What game were you watching? He took on two and was a monster.
He tried his guys out, but was just dominated.

This thread should be titled "Operation get Billy Longer"

I'd just love to see Vickery actually jump at a centre square ball-up. He appears to be afraid of contact. He is always stepping around the opposition ruckman. FFS, you are a 200 cm tank - run in and jump high.

I agree 100%.

Vickery is pretty much a squib for someone his size. He should be able to smash packs like McGuane (!) does when he is playing forward. He doesn't. In fact unless he is on the lead he does the Richo wrestle with his opponent. I think this is because he does not want to have someone put their knee in his back in the marking contest, so he keeps his opponent close. Now I never liked being smashed from behind as a player either, but I am not 200cm tall and playing in the AFL.

As a ruckman he doesn't like contesting centre bounces. He avoids contact with the oncoming player. He can break even in boundary throwins becuase again, he doesn't need to fear a knee in the ribs from his opponent.

Personally I would be prepared to shop him around. He would appeal to many clubs. I think we could get the same output from Griffiths to be honest. Plus we have McBean to consider.

Unless Vickery grows into his body soon, we are going to have a wimp for a backup ruckman.

Game was lost in the ruck. Need more than a chop out for Ivan, he needs to be replaced. Our midfielders had no chance today

If Conca wants to go home, we should be looking at a way to get Lycett and Adams, for Conca and another player/pick.

Lycett and West Coast's 2nd pick for Conca
Foley and West Coast's 2nd pick for Adams (I hate saying this because Foley has been one of my favourite players, but it seems that he isn't part of our future plans).

..i thought Maric battled manfully, but blues played 2 1st rucks vs tigers 1 1st ruck and a KPF ruck relief.. ..Vickery has height, but not much actual ruck nous.. ..checkit..

..Warnock had 30 taps at 37% to adv, combined with Krooz 22 taps at 41% to adv..
..Maric had 26 taps at 35% adv, but Vickery only 9 taps at 11% to adv..

..i think as a KPF Vickery is extremely hard to match up on, and could become a regular 50+ a year goalkicker.. ..but especially in a final you can't have a player not skilled in rucking go up against a 1st ruck quality.. ..and especially late as the game wore on, the divide in quality when Vickery had to ruck against either of the blues rucks, the center clearances just got away from you..

..Maric plays a lot like Krooz, huge heart and will exhaust himself for his team.. ..needs genuine support..

Anyone who is calling for Maric to be replaced is absolute MORON. If we had 21 players that tried as hard he does for the club than we would be a premiership side. He has only been at the club two short years and after his goal in the final quarter you could see what Richmond meant to him.

How that goal, scream and fist pump didn't motivate the rest of the team is beyond me. I seriously thought that would the turning point for us.

Maric doesn't need to be replaced he needs help. Another good quality ruckmen to help him out would even further improve his output.

Many tipped us to take Grundy last year in the draft.

Having said that, we still the Beanstalk to come into the side... Let's hope he actually develops into something.
The Bean is never going to be a number 1 ruck, he plays more like a small lead up forward than a number 1 ruck.

He might pinch hit though.

Lycett is shit whilst Vickery has gotten away with the easy option if playing as the 3rd tall forward for to long , excuses excuses and more excuses . No developing ruckman has ever been given a easier development path . People need to accept he is never going to develop into anything more than a 3rd tall forward who is a liability once the ball hits the deck . Without jake king his lack of defensive pressure is even further exploited . TRADE BAIT .

There is more to an AFL footballer than the amount they try .

Agree we need a ruck back up.

Orren retired. Vickery doesn't suit as the back up ruck at all. Derickx probably delisted and a dud anyway.

A natanui/Daw type would be great, but they are a rare find.

Dan Richardson said a couple of weeks ago that our number one priority for next year is a ruck and key forward.

I remember him saying that. Tickled my interest.

I have been told we have been in Adams ears but maybe it has been Longer all along.

Key Forward, what are we doing with Elton, McBean and Griffiths?

I can see clear as day based on the replay our number one need is a Ruck rover in the Hayes/Watson mould. Ie Adams would be classified as rover so he could be handy but longer term we need some quality inside guys with size and brains

The next highest priority is CHB . Who the hell tried to stop Waite. Rance was honourable but the match up was not working

The next would be a small forward.

The next would be a second Ruck rover

The next would be a CHF.

Finally think about Ruck.

So although we could do with a back-up/project to help Maric and TV atm we are not pressed for an immediate ruckman IMO
