I only watched one episode of the Crows show this year but in that episode they interviewed this guy. I was interested that he said he had a lot of trouble understanding the game plan at the start and it took him two thirds of the year to get it.

Watching on from the broadcast he seemed to play really well for the first half of the year but the team went poorly but then as the year went on the team did better but Ryan sort of blended in, didn't stand out any more. Did he tire or does our game plan demand that ppl play in unobtrusive ways or both or neither or other??

Dawson and Hinge (two players who like to take the game on) struggled with it for the first month or so too.

We also looked better late in games where we chucked it in the bin and took the game on.

Once Ryan clicked he was the bottle of Mt Franklin, he worked it out.

Why would you assume that the SANFL and AFL have the same game plan?
In my many hours of watching SANFL, they seem to play completely differently from the AFL side.
In particular, the defenders seem to be totally engrossed in guarding space, to a very frustrating extent.

Its an interesting discussion and one I think that can highlight the generation gap more

Most of us oldies are ' get em in and let them find the pace of the game '

Where it seems most now want - like NFL - players to learn every nuance of the game before taking the step up

Obviously I disagree with the 2nd approach because I think it takes away the reason why you recruited the player

That they had something better than the next person and we then hide it or subdue it

I think there is space for a balanced approach where we layer our learning - get the talent in and the better ones will learn ' on the job '
