Josh Battle not invited to the Saints B&F. Richmond players were invited to theirs…

Richmond president John O'Rourke took a thinly veiled swipe at the quartet by highlighting triple premiership player and Perth-born Nathan Broad, who won his second straight Francis Bourke Award for the person who best upholds the club's trademark values.
O'Rourke lauded the loyalty of those staying at Richmond to guide "our young players through this next phase of growth".

"Just by way of example … how fortunate are we to have players of the character of a Nathan Broad," O'Rourke told the function.

"I know through this year, I'm sure he could have explored options to see out his career in his home state or perhaps look for more lucrative options with other clubs.

"But he chose to extend for a further two years … what a Richmond man."

I hope they no picks left until 2040
Mackie will offer a 3rd rounder and for some reason Melb will accept

The difference is that AFL 360 is marketed as a serious talk show, whereas Top Gear is marketed as light hearted entertainment.

That and the Top Gear crew are actually funny.

Footy is entertainment, so a footy program can’t really be considered to be that much of a “serious talk show”.

I started watching 360 precisely BECAUSE they were very much focused on football and not other stuff

If anything, Robbo and his bullshit got me watching less frequently over the years

I like Gerard, a lot. He was always the best part of 360 and clearly Fox Footy feel the same because they're getting rid of Robbo. Coaches don't like Robbo, players don't like Robbo, viewers (with taste) don't like Robbo.

A successful TV program is an art form. Their sole purpose is to engage with the viewer and to get them to tune in again to the next exciting episode. It’s not about creating something that people like. People don’t watch news and current affairs programs because they like what they see. Shakespeare’s tragedies are performed (and attended) in far far higher numbers than his comedies. Just because people are entertained by horror movies it doesn’t mean that they enjoy them.

It’ll be interesting to see how AFL360 goes without Robbo. Can the program create a good chemistry that keeps the viewers watching? Or will it become sanitised and flop? Of course the former is possible, but the latter is more likely IMO.

(My read of this has nothing to do with my own personal preferences, my personal tastes are hardly representative of what’s popular and what’s not)

Vicky Park , re: something you posted about Robbo - I can’t find it now …

I agree with you. Robbo’s onscreen persona (which I’m guessing is also his off screen persona) reminds me of a mate of mine who died way way too young due to complications associated with alcoholism. On the rare times I watch AFL360, sometimes Robbo has been OK, other times Robbo clearly comes across as somebody who is struggling with life. I personally find it inappropriate, distasteful, and a bit ghoulish that Fox kept him on air in that state over such a long period of time. By comparison Mike Willesee got cut immediately after turning up in a state Robbo seems to be in many weeks.

But despite what I think personally, I also appreciate that the program is very popular and I can understand why the program is popular. And my point about how AFL360 can maintain the magic of its chemistry without Robbo still stands.

If Melbourne are smart they’ll take it.

Sometimes it’s for the greater good that a player leaves, no matter how good they are onfield.

"it's the professional world we live in" "no legacy tarnished" in respect of Oliver - Cam Luke

Um except if you are Petracca and want to get to Collingwood lol

FMD this week between the grand final and the trade period is a torturous one if rumours like this are being spread - unless it's tongue in cheek

It’s as serious as this oldie-but-a-goodie …

Just wondered over to the Melb board to have an little morning chuckle

Rumours are something happened with Clayton at the Brownlow and has been missing some medical appointments ?

Look at the difference in media reaction to Oliver leaving vs Petracca wanting to leave

What's the difference between the two? The Club they wanted to get to

Funny that

It's interesting but also a different set of circumstances. One (Petracca) wants to get away from the problem, the other (Oliver) is the problem.

They're shipping Oliver out which means he's definitely likely to leave. They would've just about tied Petracca in a basement to make him stay.

Both players equally have genuine reasons to want to leave

I'd argue Petracca has more reason to leave.

The club gambled with his life and clearly didn't treat him much better in the aftermath given his family's reaction to it all.

Seems fairly obvious that they coached him to say that he "insisted" on going back out there after he was hurt, to try to absolve themselves of responsibility.
