I can’t believe that Tuohy has a friend called “The Wandering Elk”, let alone that he’d somehow tie this person down to a business agreement to open coffee shops in Ireland.

And this is why some of the best assistants make terrible senior coaches.

No wonder he and Leppa didn’t really get along, seems way too intense for his own good.

Anyone would've failed as carlton coach then. Their list was complete dog sh!t, they admitted themselves it was basically a tank job, play as young as possible and accumulate picks. BB did the hard yards, basically he walked so Teague/Voss could run. Being full on as he is probably wouldn't have helped though, gotta find the right balance.

Call me a boomer/narrow minded or whatever. But I'm sick of the irish recruitment narrative.
Majority don't work out.
Obviously we got marty clarke, he was pretty solid, but apart from that keane took off, tovill had 0 idea what he was doing, both disasters (i know keane left due to covid)

When people argue with me saying they don't take a list spot (Cat B) thats correct, but that doesn't last forever, eventually they have to go onto the senior list. thats a spot of a lachie sullivan type who's worked their ass off. Coxy is a great success story but probably will never happen again.

Stop trying to make the game international is all im saying.

Feel free to explain why we still don’t have a footy boss then.

Administration totally different to players.
Your post implied we're potentially scaring off players because we don't have a footy boss. Clearly we're not, judging by the recent acquisitions we've traded in. I highly doubt an 18 year old kid we select in the draft is going to say 'thanks, but no thanks, I'm not interested because you don't have a GM'..

It's been reported numerous times about potential GM candidates we're interested in, so I would think we're in the process of interviewing those.

Perhaps those candidates would prefer to wait until after the draft period before announcing they're resigning from their current positions to take up a new role at another club?

Bolton could have walked in on a strong list and he still would have failed with the attitude that Touhy described. Dressing down players for eating a f***ing cookie on a flight, and singling out individuals to shame in front of the group might have been acceptable behaviour from a coach 30+ years ago but that shit won’t fly these days and Bolton should have known better given his teaching background. No player in this day and age is going to respond well to that.

You’re a narrow minded boomer. What you’re saying is akin to buying some lottery tickets and then being offered a free one as a bonus, but saying no it wouldn’t be fair to the other lottery tickets if you took it because it will somehow lower the chances of them being winners.
Cat B rookies get 3 years to prove they’re worthy of being on an AFL list. If they’re good enough they get a senior spot and if they don’t they’re shown the door. If you find a best 22 player, you’re going to complain that they’ve taken the spot of some fringe guy who works hard but had less talent? Just because they’re not Australian? That’s asinine and borderline xenophobic.

Probably because we’d rather take our time to find the right person for the job than to go all Eddie McGuire hung ho and just throw the first half decent candidate we find in there?

Nice shift of the goal posts there too.

Remember you are hearing one side of the story here, Tuohy clearly has a vendetta to come out swinging like this in a book that nobody is going to read.

You are correct in having to adapt to different people/times, all though you could argue getting singled out in a review session (for example) would make a elite athlete want to improve, not sook.

It's f**ing australian rules football, lets be honest here, the irish only come over to get paid because their game is amateur...

More Arguing the fact guys like Sully, Shaun Mannagh, even Checkers spend a long time in the vfl waiting for a chance when they are clearly good enough, and some gaelic footballer can hop on a flight and walk straight into a afl footy club because he's irish? please!
No more, have enough able footballers here. Is that asinine?

Who gives a shit if it’s called Australian rules? Gatekeeping a sport from internationals because you think they’re only coming for the money is ridiculously childish.

Yes. Incredibly. This is professional sport, not some junior league that gives everyone a go based on how hard they work for it or where they grew up.

And stop acting like there’s a wealth of talent in the VFL that is “clearly” good enough. Sully is borderline, and was lucky to be offered a second year. Mannagh is still yet to prove that he’ll be a long term prospect either. And no international recruit on a completely separate list is taking the opportunities of any players away. Grow up.

Well hopefully you aren't a list manager anytime soon because collingwood or the afl don't need to waste any more resources on future homesick gaelic footballers. Hopefully collingwood learn their lesson and leave them in ireland

It'd be interesting to see, but I suspect the hit rate for Irish recruits was higher than for standard rookies back when a lot were taken in the rookie draft.

I’m absolutely certain that neither Collingwood nor the AFL ageee with your closed minded bigotry.

I don't even hate him. I like the guy.
Ed is a shpeshal case on this board. Seems to think that anyone who dares to disagree with his views hate and are targeting him, even though it’s very much not the case.

It was literally about footy boss candidates and zero to do with players. Who refers to players as candidates? Nothing was implied, merely stated.
