It's not about the winning.

It's about how piss weak the loss was.

We reverted to the same trash we've dished up for the last three years with predictable results.

The first two games we fielded weaker teams and were in both games with a chance to win them due to the players putting in, being daring and attacking the corridor.

Either Simpson is too pig headed to change his message, or the players simply aren't listening.

Either way, we've plenty to be pissed about. Talent comes and goes but effort should be a non negotiable.
I don’t agree with it being the same old. We tried to go through the middle multiple times (and it worked a number of times as well) but either the kicking was poor or our players lacked the run to make it a viable option. It’s only going to work when we have our fit and powerful players on the park. You’re not going to get away with taking on the corridor when a good half the side has zero continuity. I liked the pressure early and the intent to attack was there, the majority of the players just aren’t up to scratch to make an elite ball movement gameplan work effectively

Sack everyone.

Colossal embarrassment. Obviously nobody expected to win, but after last week's brave effort fans EXPECTED that to be repeated by our so called "stars".

Didn't think winning was a possibility but losing so convincingly in the manner we did was simply... soul destroying.

Bring back the top ups. Don't care who it is just park the credits in the bank shit and send a team out on merit who is going to do the club colours proud, win lose or draw.

+ves
Hurn and McGov working well together
Nic Nat's 10mins to start the 2nd half
Dixon in the ruck in the last quarter, looked ok
We aren't last ... yet

-ves
Hurn and McGov were our best players
Our defensive running is non-existent
Loopy kicks to stationery targets
JJ getting injured
Kennedy looked very old
No Rioli to distract me from how bad we are

  • Dixon a serviceable backup ruck option;
  • Gov getting some touch back these last 2 weeks;
  • Hurn in the first half;
  • Only 2 more weeks until we are at full strength again;
  • Reality check for the match committee.

  • Simmo not simplifying the game plan to accommodate the sides fitness and skill levels, allowing the Dockers to split the zone open time and time again with better pace and leading;
  • Too many young players going backwards under bad leadership and coaching;
  • Onfield leadership by senior players - Ryan (selfishness, lazy), Gaff (unwillingness to pressure the ball carrier), and JK (too many stupid frees);
  • 2 wins in last 12 games. 7th defeat in a row;
  • Complete inability to get the game on our terms for any longer than 30 seconds. Back to playing safe, scared, and stagnant. Completely reactive footy and no ability to move the footy forward.

where is the imporvement coming from in the next 3 years. That is what really scares me.
Xavier O’Neill, our first draft pick in our premiership year and the bloke given a two year contract extension last year, was omitted from last week’s side along with the WAFL ring-ins.

Connor West was considered a better option than him, who went on to get 8 touches in 75% game time and looked no better than any of the amateurs we rung in last week.

Well that was a train wreak we were all waiting for.

Meh!

Ryan needs to stop the behind theplay crap he is getting into. Noticed on multiple occassions giving away silly frees and also pushing, shoving, bumping and mouthing off with Freo players way off the ball. Seriously not focused on playing football enough and wasting energy on non football acts.

Dixon showed he's a decent backup ruck.

Setting aside specifics I think we can all agree the playing list is pretty much cooked. Aged stars and not a lot from below.

It will be a nasty season. Given the form of Adelaide, Hawthorn and Collingwood.

I don't think we'll win the spoon. I worry 2023 could be a bit of a dead cat bounce as well, before we lose Naitanui, Shuey and 2010 draft cohort falls off the cliff.

I didn't mind West. He at least got his hands on the footy and I can see him developing into a Priddis type. Where he seemed to let himself down was his defensive positioning. I'd rather see West given an opportunity to build over O'Neill.

For me, I think a lot of the issues today can be explained by injuries and covid and especially, having to make the most and 3rd most changes in AFL history in consecutive weeks. I think people here are underestimating how hard implementing a new game plan is whilst the team is changing massively.

The disappointment for me is that we clearly planned this year to have one last swing at it with this core, and I still think with our best 22 and some luck we could have challenged, but due to the above issues, a lot outside our control, the season will be long gone well before we get a chance to see something resembling our best 22 playing at their best.
It’s been the same for a couple of years now. Even our kick mark gameplan was built for a very specific selection of players. Whether thats a good idea or not is up for debate, but it means that when we’re at our best we are the best, but when we are missing a handful of those players it all falls to bits quite quickly.

We can never get a large chunk of our best players on the park for a decent handful of games on the trot and it’s extremely frustrating. I’d just like to see what we could produce with a Melbourne like injury run last year, because we’d be right in the thick of it. There aren’t that many great teams around, and looking at our best 22 on paper it feels like such a waste that we’ll never get to see it in full flight.

We can bang on about effort all day, and it’s fair to an extent, but the fact is, you’re never going to be able to have the touch and intuition required at an elite level when the team sheet is a revolving door for 3 years straight. You need to know who is going to be where before it happens, and that comes when you actually get the opportunity to play games together.

He had 8 disposals. Needs to get his hands on it more than that.

Anyone know how to like and not like a post at the same time?
