I think that JPod would be a good mentor for Rowe and Casboult to help get the best out of them. If it happens, then he should be on a rookie contract with a coaching rider attached to say that he is actually working for the club as a coach.

Would be a massive win for us if we could swing it... and it would benefit, long term, the two talls I mentioned.

JPod has served his role on a very strong Geelong team but doubt he would add any value in a mentoring role at Carlton- nothing against him but he is just not that player

no thanks

prefer we throw what we can at GWS for #1 and BOYD

Pods would be someone you would get if you were going for the flag next year. Having said that, he had a pretty terrible finals series.

Pods looked cooked to me this year. Doubt hed give us more than hopefully what one of Rowe/Levi can produce.

I'd give chappy a year though.

Who will we offer up for Boyd?

Would Warnock, Yarran and #12 get it done?

We need to get aggressive in this trade period and solve our deficiencies.

I don't think they'll have any interest in Knockers now they've signed Mumford. Yaz would only be traded to Weagles but they've balked at his asking price. Plus I don't think we have the goods to trade for #1.

Likely events to happen in trade period at this stage based on recent news/events:

Daisy to Carlton via FA
Eddie to North/Adelaide via FA (zero compo)
Hampson to Richmond for 2nd round pick (around 30)
On trade pick 30 to Brisbane + Laidler for Docherty
Trade Duigan to Melbourne for 3rd round pick (#36)
Go to draft with ND Pick 12, 29, 36, 47 & 65.

Pick 12 we'll probably take Gardiner at this point and back him to make an impact, whilst freeing up Henderson as we're unlikely (once again) to snare a key forward. If Cas/Rowe don't improve in 2014, they'll be gone.

Pick 29 and 36 I reckon we use for Patty Cripps (tall, inside midfielder) and either Riley Knight or punt on Mitch Thorp.

47 and 65 to be used on Bell and Curnow to be elevated to senior list. Then we hit the PSD and rookie draft with some mature types as depth. Not sure who we're into, but there's a few delisted guys I can see us grabbing (hopefully not Didak though). So at this point (which will no doubt change), this is my realistic view of what could/will happen over the off-season:

INs:

Dale Thomas (FA)
Sam Docherty (Bris - Trade)
Gardinder, Cripps, Thorp (National Draft)
PLUS a couple of mature guys via PSD and Rookie Draft (wouldn't mind us re-rookie-ing the likes of McCarthy to see if he comes good post-injury)

OUTs

Eddie Betts (FA)
Shaun Hampson (Rich - Trade)
Laider (Bris - Trade)
Duigan (Mel - Trade)
Scotland (Retire)
Ellard (Delisted)

Keep in mind, this fits in with what Mick said about 25% trade, 75% draft - so unless we can maneuver a trade for a young GWS KPP then this could be it - which, if we draft correctly then I'd be pretty happy with.

So my 2014's team looks like this:

B: McInnes, Jamo, Tuohy
HB: Walker, Gardiner/Watson, Simpson
C: Thomas, Gibbs, Yarran
HF: Judd, Henderson, Robinson
F: Waite, Kreuzer, Garlett
Foll: Warnock, Murphy, Carrazzo
I/C: McLean, Curnow, Docherty, Armfield

Depth: Gardiner/Watson, Lucas, Menzel, Graham, Rowe, Casboult, Bell, Cachia, Buckley, White, Bootsma, Temay + Rookies.

I like this side - would be nice if Cas can learn to kick in the offseason so we can build around him at FF then play Hendo at CHF full time when Waite retires. By then Gardiner/Watson (or both) will have had time to bloom, then all of a sudden our 'spine' is solid and we can make a serious run at the flag.

I think, give or take, that's about right Matty411.

We don't have the cattle for GWS' #1 pick, and clearly are not making a run at it.

Somehow turning Hampson into Docherty without giving up anything else of real value would be a great outcome. Out: surplus ruck, In: legit first-round young mid talent. I think we're all but resigned to Out: Betts, In: Thomas.

Repeat after me... With buddy going to Shitney instead of GWS, they won't be trading pick 1 because they will use it to draft Boyd for themselves...

Get the **** over the idea we can trade for pick 1... It's a non starter...

Get JPod as a rookie/coach... Costs us **** all and we don't need to give up a Gibbs or kreuzer... Because that's what they will want for that pick

I'm genuinely ok with this. We have a surplus of small forwards and need more midfielders. Perfect outcome. Sad to see Eddie go but it makes sense from a club perspective.
