Hi all,

Just wanted some feedback about our current list. Does anyone have a future side that is realistic for the end of 2005 and 2006?

Some other questions:
- Who do we keep?
- Who do we trade for other players or draft picks?
- Who do we delist?

Thanks all.

Paddy

all depends on next 11 performances, who we can bring to the club via draft and trades and who is/isn't on contract.
if we can recruit KPP players, then we are likely to off load similar types of players, same goes if we recruit smalls.

we need to remember we lack depth, so we can't just get rid of 10-12 players

wat that supposed to mean? maybe we should just give him a game wen we travel interstate or else wat is the point in having him.

Im admittedly not the biggest houlihan fan, but if he continues to improve his defensive game and ability to take a little knock he COULD become a very good receiver in future years. But if we see another incident like we did against melbourne - trade ASAP. Lets hope for our sake, he can step up.

WILLING TO TRADE AS BAIT - the deal must be appropriate, otherwise they stay.
Scott Camporeale
Heath Scotland
Lance Whitnall
Andrew Carrazzo*
Luke Livingston
Ryan Houlihan

TRADE OR DELIST - (these players more than likely delisted).
Jordan Bannister
Glen Bowyer
David Clarke
Sam Pleming
Karl Norman*

PLAYERS TO LIFT AND KEEP CHANCE FOR NEXT SEASON, OR THEY ARE OUT - EITHER AS TRADE/DELIST
Ian Prendergast
Simon Wiggins
Justin Davies
Brett Johnson
Kade Simpson
Daniel Batson

THESE GUYS WILL REMAIN THROUGH REBUILDING STAGES TO FILL GAPS, BUT ARE ALL UNDER THE PUMP AND WILL BE IN AND OUT NEXT SEASON.
Adam Bentick
Adrian Deluca
Troy Longmuir
Cory McGrath
Trent Sporn
Digby Morrell
Callum Chambers

ALL SAFE
Eddie Betts
Luke Blackwell
Chris Bryan
Brendan Fevola
Bradley Fisher
Barnaby French
Adam Hartlett
Anthony Koutoufides
Matthew Lappin
Anthony Raso
Jordan Russell
Nick Stevens
David Teague
Bret Thornton
Jarrad Waite
Andrew Walker
Setanta O'hAilpin
Aisake O'hAilpin
Nick Becker
Jesse D. Smith

-----------------------------------
* Carrazzo, I have put under trade bait. I'm sure he will stay, but to get good players from other clubs you usually have to give away something. I just feel he could be put in as a sweetner for a trade. As I said though, I'm sure he will stay.

*Norman, I thought he had loads of talent and I was a fan. But obvousily he hasn't played for a while and Pagan probably doesn't see much with him. So I'd say he'd be delisted. I did have him in the 'under the pump group' beforehand.

Definately delist:
Jordan Bannister
Glen Bowyer
David Clarke
Justin Davies
Karl Norman
Ian Prendergast
Simon Wiggins
Sam Pleming (Rookie)

Possibly delist:
Kade Simpson
Brett Johnson
Trent Sporn

Rookie Promotion:
Setanta O'hAilpin

5-8 National draft picks
2 more possible picks depending on salary cap issues
1 Preseason pick
0-2 new Rookies (depending on salary cap issues)

I thought I'd have a stab at the Carlton team in say 2008

FB Livingston
Carazzo Teague
CHB Thorton (vc)
Russell Houlihan

C Walker Bentick Draft Pick

CHF Waite (vc)
Fisher Hartlett
FF Betts Whitnall
Fevola

R Bryan Stevens (c) Davies

INT
- Draft Pick (ruck)
- Lappin
- Raso
- Scotland

EMG
- Draft Pick (flanker)
- Simpson
- Draft Pick (tall defender)

At first, a lot of people may look at this and say its the basically the same team we got at the moment. But i believe a few players will continue to develop and play a key role, e.g. Fisher, will be a focal point, and Davies, i still have faith that he will come up and be a good little rover.
Perhaps in 2008 Frenchy will still be here, in that case I'll swap the draft pick ruckman on the bench with Barny.
I also think by 2008 T-Bird will have stepped up as the Defense general we so badly need, hence the Vice-captaincy.

In looking at this, I don't think our current list is as bad as people make it, as we have a lot of potential....

Our current list is talented, but sadly most are talented for VFL and not the level of AFL.

I see Simpson as an emergency in your list, I'd say he will be gone by then, or in the side - as he will be regarded as a 'senior player'.

re: simpson thats probably a fair call by you stokesy, I reckon he's got the goods to be a senior player by 08 so maybe i shud squeeze him in somewhere...

If Simpson can't get a game by season 2008 I don't think he would be on our list. I also would prefer to see Bryan playing as centre half back with someone else with more height and better ruck contest skills holding the ruck position. I can't wait to see Hurn and Clark slotting into that list nicely :D

PS- A lot of people are saying get rid of Davies but I don't know if it would be the right thing to do. I think that he might need a little more time. I have a feeling that his footy problems are more mental than anything and with a little confidence he could be a top player. I remember in one of his first games for us against Freo at subi he got like eleven possesions in one quarter. Towards the end of the year he should be given a couple of full games on the ground and we'll see what he can do. It must be bloody hard for him to try and get into the game when he is coming on and off the ground every five seconds. The same opportunity should be given to Walker as well. I fail to see the benefits in their development and confidence if they are sitting on the pine for half the match.

If thats your list in 2008 then you will be in a lot of trouble. lol

Delist
Johnson - Bentick is coming through and hopefully we trade for another in-and-under midfielder...he's great at getting the ball in close but his disposal is pretty bad and he's too slow to shutdown his opponent..
Clarke
Bannister
Prenderghast - Bryan will replace him as mobile big guy
Simon Wiggins
Bowyer - I put him on the delist list but on the condition that he be given a few games before the end of year. I think he played well in the backpocket last year before injury and given limited opportunities in Port game this year did alright...can't think of too many skills errors he's made or bad decisions (unlike the rest of the players above). Been very consistent in the VFL. Think he deserves a chance before delisting...especially given that guys like McGrath, Clarke, Johnson have been given a chance.

Maybe delist
Morrell - Hoping he bulks up a bit more and becomes more consistent as he matures mentally...his ability to pull down 12 marks or kick 2 or 3 every several games shows he has talent...hope he can do it more often...if he gets dropped again before the end of season its probably curtains though. With Hartlett coming on and the likelihood that we will recruit a largish backman he will need improve.

Deluca - if he can't become a fully fledged ruckman he will be delisted I think because his forward spot will be filled by Fisher/Hartlett. Having said that he could become a very good ruckman...he's also very mobile. Hope he gets some rucking experience under his belt in the VFL and survives...doubt he will survive as a forward. With Bryan and Setanta coming along he is under pressure unless he becomes a pure ruckman.

Norman - if he doesn't get back in the side by the end of the year he is gone...he's got talent but has lost the plot recently (if he ever had it)...have a feeling he's in Pagan's bad books...and that's a lonely place as the previous delistings found out.

Other interesting cases:
Davies and Simpson: they just need a few more kilos on their frames to play the positions they are suited to...they are both very slight still. Think Davies could make a good midfielder once he toughens up...he wasn't given that number by chance I figure.

In the preseason draft we will probably get a priority pick and I would keep those. I would and try and get two mature age players (around 25-50 games)...an in-and-under player and a tall backman/forward (doesn't have to be a star...a taller Teague would be great). Trading a Houlihan and a second round draft pick should achieve both of these.

bulldogrob, no dog has the right to comment in a carlton forum ever. No matter how badly we are performing.
Go harrass the swans, hawks, kangas, cats, etc.....
We dont LOL at your teams when they are down, we'd die laughing.
nuffsaid.
